Is it just me or what? It seems like when Purdue is ranked in the top 20, and we lose, we drop 5-6 spots, but others lose bably to unranked teams they drop 1 or 2 spots, some stay the same. Am I just being a Homer or is there some fact to this, Has anyone ever made a chart to look at this?

Easy does it...step away from the ledge...

It's polls being voted on by sports writers who couldn't possibly watch all teams. It's basically a popularity contest. Ranking's biggest purpose is to help espn sell commercials.

No conspiracy...move on.

no ledge even close.......No conspiracy either.......Polls really mean nothing, its just a bragging thing to me that's all

Based on this week's results thus far, don't expect a jump up of more than 2 spots or so on Monday. Not many losses from teams in the teens

Yeah - but the big question: after yet another loss (to Wisky) will the Loosiers continue to receive votes?
How does that happen?

Bluebloods like Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina will always have less of a drop I feel like

Which to me, speaks more to the advantage of getting inside the Top 10 in the rankings as early in the season as possible. The longer you stay there, the more the voters believe you should still be there after a few losses. Which ultimately translates to better NCAA seedings....not seedlings

Anytime you have people determining who gets to play in the tourney and determine who plays who there exist a potential for bias..
Just the way it is

Meaningless. Ask me where we are ranked about mid March. Hopefully inside the top 12-15.

We will jump to 18 ahead of ND, Creighton, Maryland and Butler(finally I hope).

We were 12 at end of last year and RPI of 15 and still a 5 seed. Unless we win out(not happening) 4 seed at best if play well in B10 tourney.

What happens if the teams in front of Purdue lose?

There's a lot that go into polls. Not just who you play, but what other teams who are ranked above, below and similar to you do as well.

Florida will likely pass Purdue.

That said, I think that Purdue is not that far from being a three seed right now, because it is hard to come up with 12 teams with substantially better resumes.

Why because they beat a horrendous Mizzou team and played well at home against Kentucky? We just knocked off 2 top 25 teams.

I think we are far away from a 3 seed. Nebraska loss a bad one and win that one might be a 3 seed now with so many teams losing the last two weeks. Course fan base of those teams saying same thing.

Beating UK easily drew a lot of national attention and should give them a nice boost in the polls.

As far as Purdue getting a three seed, the Boilers just need to stop losing. There are a lot of flawed resumes above them and, the way this season is going, I don't expect the upsets to stop.
