I didn't say you had to be a scorer, but you can't be one dimensional or an offensive liability.
CE has the best combination or skills since Moore and before that, it was Willie Deane.
You can't give the ball to Amy of our guards, other than CE and say " go make a play".
They can all shoot, but in the tourney, there's moments when you need a player that can go get a good look in crunch time. ( see how we lost 2 years in a row).

We lost to Cincinnati because we shot 15% from deep and 60% from the FT line.

I fully understand understand where you are coming from, but wouldn't s.say purdue lost due to guards that couldn't create their shots. Offense is half the game .and that position is one fifth and so loosely that would be 10% of the game. Still, it helps to have someone that can make things happen when others are not.
 
Agree that you need people to create shots for themselves, but that does not qualify them as a PG. Just because you go Low 1-4 for a guard, does not mean they are the PG

I like a 1-4 low for a special situation with a one on one player that likes to get into the lane
