Painter should be fired!

I know this is troll-bait for us Painter doubters and I shouldn't take it . . . but here I go.

You guys know, just like us realistic Painter doubters know, (not the goofballs who come on here and shout fire Painter after every loss. They're even dumber than the never-fire Painter guys, but barely) that what happens tomorrow has little to do with how long Painter stays at Purdue in the future.

It's all gonna come down to how he does in the NCAA tourney. If he goes out first or second game, I think his seat gets really, really hot. I really don't think a Sweet Sixteen, only his third in 12 years, is gonna silence us doubters. He needs at least an Elite Eight.

I have come on here several times and stated that I believe he won't be coaching at Purdue by 2021. I still stand by that prediction. But really, this spring probably will decide if I"m correct. I absolutely believe Painter needs, at least, an Elite to prove me wrong. At least, an Elite Eight.

After this year, absolutely Swanigan is gone. And you Rose-Colored Pollyannas have really tired to make Painter's fail of a recruiting year out into a positive, but it wasn't. I think there will be a noticeable, if not severe, drop off for the next few years after this one.

Also, we no longer have the settler (you keep bringing up the term, not me) AD we had before. The guy who renewed Versyp after her stinker season last year is gone. I've said it before tick, tick, tick. The clock is now ticking on Painter to really do something.

Before anyone attacks me for being negative when everything is going so great. Remember, I didn't bring up this topic; I just bite at the bait. I have aways stayed out of criticizing Painter this entire season, and even agreeing with TC4Three over and over. He does know his basketball. But we really do disagree on Painter and how long he should stay.

Nebraska is a Big Ten road game; it's gonna be tough. How Purdue does tomorrow says little about whether Painter should stay or go.

It's gonna be a tough at Nebraska . . . a lot tougher than say . . . playing Arkansas Little Rock on a neutral court. It's games like that which will decide if my prediction comes true. I'm still confident tick, tick, tick.

Good, well reasoned post, although some people like Kesselshmuck will get their panties in a bunch no doubt. I think his leash is pretty long as so many in the fanbase are happy with 2 sweet 16's in 11 years, which is unbelievable to me. We sure seem to be in the minority, expecting more than a shared B1G title every dozen years, but it is what it is. Sure hope you are right about his seat getting hotter IF things don't change, which I don't think they will. I can see a S16 this year as the ceiling, and then I agree with you. Losing the only 5 star recruit Painter has ever landed will put us back into the middle of the pack assuming the B1G gets better (pretty bad this year), but again, most are ok with that because "it could be worse".

Maryland and Wisconsin both pulled out tough games today on the road, although luck was on Wisky's side. It's important that Purdue does the same. CBoth games were very close but MD and WI got it done. Purdue needs to show it is at the same level as those teams are this year.

Lol.

You morons are too much - Painter's seat would not even be lukewarm after this season regardless of how far they go in NCAA.

You guys live in an alternative reality.

What's hilarious about you anti-Painter guys is the following: you reply to all the fire "insert coach in the top 25 threads" because you know you are being called out. You just can't help yourselves when the season is going well - you claim to want Purdue to win but your anti-Painter posts show your true colors. If we do well and Painter advances far in this year's tourney your arguments will be crushed. So which is it - do you want this talented team to do well now, and come March, or do you want to come on here and claim you were so right and Painter is no good? Basically do you place more stock in Purdue winning or are you just so desperate to come on here and say I told you so that you are blinded? I would love to hear it. Signed, I can't stand glass is always half empty, Groundhog Day anti-Painter posters during what is shaping up to be an amazing season, with what could be the player of the year.

Except for schools like KU, UK, UNC, etc., most schools will not fire a coach who consistently makes the tournament and is ranked in the top 25. Whether you think that bar is set too low, just about every school uses that as a standard unless they are more of a blue blood program.

Lets see what Painter can do with a competent athletic director.

And now we have the biggest troll of all jumping in. Too bad for you that you can't defend your arguments because, unlike guys like vilehoopster, you know nothing about basketball. That's why you can't handle disagreements.

Hoopsteer has a valid post here. When Biggie leaves, we will have a hole in the line up. I had hopen JJJ would step in and fill it. I didn't see an HOF coach actually wheeping at his door step. True, we don't know who will fill that void, so l guess we have assume the worst, if we want to be "realistic".
No doubt next years team will be exactly the same as this years, but without Bilggie. Get out the pitchforks,

It does suggest that we need an excellent incoming class to off-set our losses. We are all hyper-sensitive to drops in recruiting. I think this administration will be much more engaged and more proactive than the previous. Before I declare either doom or bliss, I will wait just a bit.

Painter isn't going anywhere soon with the extension Burke just gave him. That guaranteed number is way too high.

Besides, versyp should be headed to the unemployment line first

I don't think what the team does in the tourney will have any bearing on Matt this year. I also don't think that any of us in this forum matter as to what happens to Matt. I "suspect" that knowing what happened during the budget crisis and Matt hitting an all time low doesn't mean much to the A.D. I doubt the A.D. cares what star power Matt pulls in, but does care about a top 20 team day in and day out. Now if 4 to 5 years down the road Purdue doesn't do much in the BiG or tourney...then Matt's seat will probably be hot. Unless the team "consistently underperforms" (like more than a game or so a season) I think Matt is the driver for a few more years. Naturally, I could be wrong, but I just don't get the feel that Matt is even on a lukewarm seat. None of this is to take sides on whether he should or not (although I do think he is a better coach than some in this forum) be on a hot seat as it is just the tea leaves I'm reading... :)

Losing Biggie will be a huge loss...no question. Next year will add a 7'2" string bean that can shoot and decent perimeter skills for a young guy that big, demanding some size away from the basket. Next year may or may not find a Jacquil Taylor that makes a lot of progression quick with actual playing time "if healthy". Next year will bring in 6'8" and a 6'9" player with some athleticism, if not a little thin. Next year will bring in a player that could play 1 through 3 and see a lot of time...particularly if he improves his stroke. Next year will return Haas, V. Edwards, C. Edwards, Dakota, PJ, Cline. A few Big teams wouldn't mind that returning cast. Losing Biggie will take away the player that can carry a team for a bit "if" he can get the ball. Eastern, Wheeler and Ewing collectively have won about 97% of their games and they are main if not the main players on those teams...suggesting that they may be winners which translates to things outside of particular stats even though they are not amiss there either. I hated not getting Nic Ward last year, JJJ this year and really shocked that Purdue lost Malik Williams to the whorehouse in Louisville. Having hunted a little I've seen a few bucks getting shot chasing does. ;)
