Painter on College Hoops Today Podcast

It's just been posted & I haven't had a chance to listen yet, but here's the quote Rothstein is using to sell this episode:

“I think this is our best chance to go a Final Four,” Painter said Tuesday on the College Hoops Today Podcast. “The team obviously with E’Twaun Moore, Robbie Hummel, and JaJuan Johnson was right there, but that team was never healthy. We have the pieces and the experience. We have a chance.”

So that pretty much just jinxed us. .

I really cringed when I read the quote above (thinking why would Painter say that), but after listening to what was actually said, I cringed even more (at Rothstein).

First off, Painter did NOT say that.

Secondly, to add context, Painter was asked a very specific (honestly a leading) question from Rothstein, which was something to the effect of:

Rothstein: "I've watched you through the years, Etwaun, Robbie, JJ never got a healthy shot at getting to a Final Four. With that said, is this your best chance of getting to a Final Four?"

Painter: "That team (EM, RH, JJ) was good and had other pieces like Kramer, Grant, Jackson that gave us toughness, 3pt shooting, defense. We have to have that fight. We have shooters but you can't shoot your way to the mountaintop. So if we can focus on these things (toughness, defense, bringing fight), we give ourselves a better chance. NCAA is a crapshoot, neutral floor and anyone can win."

My take is that the quote above from Rothstein is that us what Rothstein wanted to get out of the interview, but Painter didn't bite or say anything remotely close to that. I find what was written to be a complete misquote. Honestly, Rothstein is looking for podcast hits and I find this borderline unethical.
