Our next Coach should be...

Why was it that Spack's defenses got worse after the Rose Bowl? Was it because he was losing his assistants due to the minimum salaries that Burke and Cordova were imposing?

Maybe if Spack was given a large budget to hire whoever he wants, maybe he would be a good hire.

Thoughts?

He wasn't the head coach so he wasn't the person losing assistants. If he was great and we didn't pay worth a crap why wasn't he snagged by another P5 conference team. He isn't what's needed to turn the program around and rejuvinate the fan base. It would be an average hire at best.

We lost assisants and fell behind in facilities, both thanks to Morgue. That caused recruiting to tank, which gave spack less to work with, great mustache notwithstanding.

Spack might be an "OK" hire, but this program needs more than a cup of java to wake it up at this point. We need an adrenalin shot in the chest, a set of jumper cables on the testicles.

Spack and Cordova?
Barely an overlap there, how would she have affected him and the tiller staff all those previous years?

I read that she placed additional budget constraints (salaries) on Burke.....as if he needed help with that to begin with.

We need someone who can R*E*C*R*U*I*T. Of all the names we've kicked around, Greg Schiano did the best job of taking a doormat (Rutgers) and turning things around. And he was loyal, stayed there eleven years before the NFL called.

He's now the OC/asst HC at Ohio State so we know he knows the recruiting grounds of NYC/NJ/PA/OH. Do you think Urban Meyer would make this guy his OC if he didn't know how to coach?

If she did substantially, I just meant it would have affected DH1 more, since she arrived July 2007 and spack/tiller were gone the next year already.

No more small time coaches from The Ohio State unless they dig up Woody.

Small time? He was a head coach at a Big East/Big Ten school and in the NFL. Do you have someone in mind with more experience?
There is something about being a coach at Ohio S. and moving to West Lafayette to become the head coach along the way they get lost. Some might say brain dead!!! No more bucknuts please

Successfully recruiting the state of Indiana is a must for a consistently successful HC at Purdue.Successfully recruiting good linemen from Indiana is usually what recruiting in-state means.Currently , there are some of these guys who hadPurdue interest who are playing at IU .

Any coach with a pulse could win more than 6 games in 3 seasons. Purdue should hire any high school coach in Indiana and pay him a $100k a year....PU would save $millions, the HS coach would be happy with the money and he would win more games than the current overpaid clown.

Purdue tried that with Hope, and yes he was more successful than this clown, but he also started our current downfall.

Let's try to win

we already knew he could recruit, now we know he can coach …and win against one of the better teams in the conference. NOt wrong about this guy we ought to be knocking at his door as soon as we can. I can't remember the last time we beat Northwestern in football …that's embarrassing to say about our program. Lets get Fleck

Winning one game in a minor upset proves he can coach?

What would have had to happen today for people to post positive feedback? Is there another fan base in the country that reacts more negatively to victories?

YOUI NEED TO READ PREVIOUS NOTES AND THREADS. FLECK IS NOT A ONE HIT WONDER HERE. HE GETS IT DONE IN ALL ASPECTS OF COACHING AND IS ON HIS WAY TO A POWER 5 CONFERENCE JOB NEXT YEAR. THIS GUY HAS EARNED IT. NOT WIN ONE YEAR LIKE HAZELL DID AT AKRON. HE IS BUILDING A VERY SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM AT WMU. TOOK A LITTLE TIME BUT HE STUCK TO PLAN AND RESUTS SHOWED TODAY WHAT A GREAT START TO 16 FOR THEM.

WE WOUILD NEVER GET HERMAN FROM HOUSTON THAT'S A BETTER JOB THEN OURS ANYWAY.

Stop shouting.

Notes on other desired coaches:
Leach - upset by eastern Washington (12 penalties)

Briles - another recent former recruit/transfer arrested

Did that cat really say Houston is a better job? My how far we have fallen. Houston should never be a better job ad that's the problem the new AD must fix and fix immediately!

tOSU asst HC and DC Greg Schiano - 77-10 win over Bowling Green
If he could come and win great.
But is his personality conducive... especially for recruiting now/in future?
Former player comments sound like he is a football version of Bob knight?

He recruited well at Rutgers let's face it, that was a near miracle. A football version of Bobby Knight sounds good to me.

Hey - "this is Division 1 football!" if you can't take hard coaching, "go play intramurals brother!".

What about trying to get the Utah head coach? He seems to have done very well over the years. And if anything went really bad for Painter we could try and poach the bball coach too.

Herman will be at Texas, LSU, Texas A&M, or Baylor after the season. Depending on who gets let go.

Money talks bs walks. If we intend to ever be good we better get with the program!

We're not going to be able to lowball this crap. Those days are over. College football is big business.

Look at Baylor. When they started spending they became a hot destination.

I would say my list has definitely changed after this week:

Dave Aranda wouldn't be a bad hire but need to see what he does the rest of the year at LSU. His defenses have always been incredibly tough and led Whisky's defenses to being some of the best in college football.

I also wouldn't mind a Greg Schiano hire. I wouldn't mind a coach who is a known hardass. I would like to think the last tough nosed coach was pretty successful in Gene Keady. Seeing a coach with a pulse on the sideline would be a welcome change.

Art Briles still should be option 1, 2, & 3, imo. Brings a high powered offense that he was able to clearly adapt to his personnel shown in the schematic differences between Griffin and Petty. I think if you put some things in place and become proactive instead of reactionary for the apparent shortcomings at Baylor, he will be fine. Outside of the apparent miscommunication of the transfer (from Washington or Boise St), I don't think the kids in question have had known issues before getting to Baylor. Do you think Stanford would have brought in Brock Turner if he has a dropped rape charge while in high school? What it appears to me is admins protecting their golden goose and running interference.

If one of those three ends up being successful, they will more than likely jump ship...which wouldn't be a bad thing. At that point, you would have a much bigger pool to cast a net to grab a know commodity to replace.

Serious question...would anyone be against Lane Kiffin?
