On the surface it seems like a good pick up, but I don't like the fact that she comes from a team who had the worst record in the SEC.

So, what happened at Arkansas last year? Under talented? Poorly coached? Lack of chemistry?

I can't say I follow SEC women's hoops at all. Looks like Arkansas is historically a mid-level program that has been trending down in recent years. They just had a coaching change. That could be a factor.

Hopefully, she's a hard worker and coachable. Maybe just a player looking for a fresh start after a disappointing year?

Well - they fired their coach after years of not being able to produce - so I wouldn't say it was a player's fault who literally just transferred there. And it could be a number of reasons why they couldn't compete in arguably the toughest and deepest conference in the nation. If you're going to use the team's success as a knock to the players - then the 5 who transferred away from us must be bad players as well right? No big loss on any?

As indicated, there could a number of reasons why they finished in last place. I don't follow them, so I honestly don't know. It's a least a caution flag from my perspective.

The coach that Arkansas fired took them them from a 2-14 record in the SEC to the middle of the pack within 2 years and held that level for a few years until the last place finish this year. Our coach has taken us from the middle to the pack in the B1G to one of the lower tier teams. I've stated on several occasions that I've seen enough of this coaching team and am ready to move on despite the crazy high, undeserved buyout. Since that is not happening, I believe she should be let go next year unless we are nearly 0.500 in B1G games.

Based upon your extensive analysis and comments on the other thread, it appears you feel our team is being upgraded substantially. From your perspective, what should be the minimum number of B1G wins we should have next year for her to keep her job?

Your information is not anywhere close to accurate. CKG took over a team that ended with a 7 - 16 record. She took that team to 17 - 15 and a meaningless post season tourney her first year. Her second team finished 19- 11 and made the NCAA playin game. Then she has had two rough seasons, 15 - 19 her third year and 10 - 19 last years when the expanded Big Ten became much stronger. Purdue had not been anywhere close to the middle of the Big Ten pack for yeas before CKG took over. Perception without research can lead to nonsense.

Nonsense??? Ok, Versyp's last year was not at the middle of the pack (McGlaughlin key injury) , but prior to that she had been middle of the pack for several years. True? It is also true that the last two years KG has been in the lower tier? In your opinion, what B1G record should CKG have next year for her to earn (and keep) her job?

My opinion as to whether CKG should keep her job or not is meaningless. Purdue obviously has declined rather steadily for two decades. But that can’t be thrown at Gearlds’ feet. If you want to blame someone blame Coach V who took over a top ten program and brought it down the to current level. You could also blame the Purdue brass for allowing her to decimate the program so badly. Coach G can be blamed for not returning Purdue to respectability yet, and for regressing the last two years after her promising start her first two seasons. My opinion for whatever is worth is that CKG should attain at least a consistent winning record by the end of her contract which runs through the 2029-29 season.

Kill the program if she is left as coach that long and start gymnastics in it's place.

I think we will be a better team than this past year - I mean - that's not going to be hard considering how bad this team was. I never said by how much because the roster is not yet set - I just said that when you look at who we lost to the portal, compared to who we got in the portal, and that we are still not done adding pieces - and with Layden-Zay's return - I think when it's all said and done it will be considered a net positive.

The X factor will be how our two incoming freshmen are able to produce. I have high expectations for Gordon. She is ESPN's top ranked true post (5) coming out of high school. But it can often be a mixed bag with how a 6'7 post player does her first year in college. She's going to need some time to develop - she needs to get physically in better shape for one in order to play high level D1 basketball. I'm hoping she can come in and give us the production Bass gave us at the very least. That's about 8 ppg, 5 rpg. Anymore will be much appreciated.

Layden-Zay can definitely equal or likely exceed Swanson's contribution.

Kiki Smith can definitely equal or likely exceed Spider's contribution.

We will also have to replace the production Lombard and Collier gave us - that's about 16 ppg. Douwstra is a complete unknown coming from Europe - but I feel like combination of Douwstra/Nya/Feldman will be able to do that. Another net positive.

Another key piece will be how improved the 3 returners will be - Puryear, McCarthy and Layden - and who else we are able to get in the portal. Moderate improvement by all 3 and another impact player out of the portal - and this team has the potential of being substantially better - with many more weapons - injuries aside.

Didn't realize as I thought she was a junior - but she shot 40% from 3 and averaged double digits in her first year as a D1 player - IN THE SEC - that's crazy. The sky is the absolute limit for her.

She shot it better than Fletch did as a freshman. That's not nothing.
