Our 2018 recruiting class is ranked # 100, right behind UMass

Name a player who wanted to come to PU that PU wouldn't let them in? Glenn Robinson?
If the kid is a top athlete and can help the program, they'll find a way to get him in. Quit acting like PU is academically special, it isn't.

You can't be serious? It's not that Purdue is a better academic institution but rather we won't admit players that don't meet the general admissions criteria. Other schools bend the rules a bit to admit players and purdue doesn't do that. You honestly didn't know that?

Also, Purdue will never compete for a NC in football. Look at the money being spent by Bama and OSU and compare it to what we spend. We arent in the same league.

So that does it....we might as well just tell the recruits " we're shooting for the Alamo Bowl again this year and we think you're the type of player who can help us get there".

Do you think that's what Clemson, MSU, UoA, KSU, etc tells their recruits? Why spend the $80 million on the new facilities if we're not trying to reach the highest goal?

Where's your proof or is it just want to believe and use as an excuse? You really believe every athlete we recruit would get in to any B10 school bard solely on academics? Man, you're naive.

you can try. $80m isn't enough to move the needle. That facility brings us to the middle
Of the pack in the big ten. If we were in the same stratosphere as Clemson we would already be renovating Ross ade as well

Wrong. If Saban or Meyer came to PU, we'd be competing for NCs in a few years. It's all about the coach.
The hypothetical was about initial recruiting class rank given the current state of the program.

Also, Saban was 34-24-1 at MSU. He never competed for NCs until he went to LSU and Alabama.

What advantages does Clemson have over Purdue?

Nope. He got into Xavier that fall

He met clearinghouse standards but not Purdue.

Also, Purdue has a math requirement that a lot of other schools don't
There was more to that story if I recall.
But, as far as the math requirement, there are enough low level math courses that anyone who can add can pass.

They can, but most dont want to bother if they dont have to.

Go to purdue where i have to take a 4th year of math or a comparable school where i dont. Path of least resistance usually wins out.

I love how we seem to retread this topic 4-5 times a year. People need to accept the fact that Purdue is not and likely will never be a football destination for top tier coaches or blue chip recruits. The investment in facilities, the stadium, coaching staff is just catching up with our competition at this point. We are not a win at all costs program, nor should we be.

As academic institutions? Probably none. However, I live in Greenville SC and can tell you the football program at Clemson is run with one goal in mind... win the national championship. To that end, they give entrance requirements exemptions to players in a manner Purdue will almost certainly never embrace, certainly not under Daniels. Much more importantly, however, is that IPTAY Club members are squeezed until they bleed. While in theory, you are eligible to buy season tickets at the $160 level, my friends tell me if you aren't regularly giving in the mid-four figures, you have no hope at decent season tickets. The result is Clemson has been one of the leaders in the college athletics arms race for a few years now. Truly I mean no offence, but the football facilities at Clemson make those at Purdue look like an FCS effort (Yes... I've seen both.) Clemson spent $5.4M on salaries for assistant coaches last year. They spent $3.3M on support staff and $885,000 on recruiting. They receive $4.2M in direct aid from the school while transferring $0 dollars back to the university*. If you go look at the Clemson board right now, you'll see 54 threads active today. There are 4 on the Purdue board. It's all the fans think about and they are focused 365 days/year. That's why they give until it hurts. I realize many of you here would be willing to give at the same levels, but how many others? It will take far more than the few of you. The money drives the facilities today's players crave and the fanbase creates the excitement players want around the program.

That's what Clemson currently offers which Purdue does not.

Given your grammar and syntax, I am not insulted. You are an embarrassment to Purdue University. If you cannot compose a literate sentence, please stifle.

We'll see how Brohm's recruiting works out. We now have three 3-stars and three 2-stars and we all know that the latter are actually zero-stars. I sincerely hope that we end up with a group of great recruits but right now it looks a lot like Haze and Hope.

Dr. Boris, Mr. English professor, you are in a haze and you have no hope!! Get real and get a life. Coach Brohm is doing fantastic to this point having to work from a limited foundation left to him by the prior administration. Too early to predict the future, and too early to cry woe is me [us]. Sorry...sic grammar! Put the sin-tax on me.
