When he was an assistant at Iowa - concerning Deon Thomas. I'm sure the Illini guests can give much more color on the situation.
He was an assistant at Iowa and taped a conversation with Deon Thomas about Illinois offering him a car - a Chevy Blazer I think. Turned them in and they paid for it.
Akins played terrible until the last 5-10 minutes, he went off late after the game was decided. Auburn the much better team.
MSU loses 4 guys at least. 2 of those, Adkins & Richardson leaving leaves Major holes. The Fidler(sp) kid was good off bench, also gone. They have 2 frosh guards coming in, doubt either Richardson quality -- so they will need a couple great guards from the portal.
Richardson is a freshman, isn't he, Buck? Akins, Fidler, and Zapala graduate I think.
Izzo will probably pick up one or two if I were forced to wager, and they might have another departure. I expect Michigan State to be tough again next year. Maryland and Illinois - have no idea - a lot of turnover with both.

Akins hit a couple late.....but it was too little too late - had a good look that could have made things interesting in the last 90 seconds with Auburn tightening up a little.
Holloman finished 0-10 (0-5 on 3pt FG's).....that really hurt them. A lot like the West coast trip where they lost back-to-back to USC and UCLA......opportunities but a lot of rim damage. Crashed the glass pretty well.....but in the end, went the way of the rest of the conference......party's over.
top 15 usually get $4M. Too 20, $3M. So can NIL match that, maybe, but likely the player is better locking the money in a 2-5 year contract.
He would be an even tougher match-up for conference teams - three level scorer and positional size. For Illinois, that is another challenge with the constant turnover - once you start heavily relying on the portal, it's hard to get away from it.
He’s a helluva talent— I won’t miss not seeing him in East Lansing if he bolts for the pros….
