OT: Morton is kicking ass

Congrats to Ethan Morton for making it back to the NCAA Tournament!

The MWC was rough for bubble teams like Xavier, Texas, UNC, and Indiana. That league will get at least 3 teams now with Colorado State in. (New Mexico and Utah State are safely in). San Diego State and Boise State were both first four teams in this morning's bracketmatrix.

The MWC probably won't get all 5 in, but they could definitely get 4.

Yeah that seems like the common thinking. The MWC is doing the same thing they did last year. It's almost as if they're planning all the games in advance to maximize their bids.

There's probably at least a 50/50 chance the MWC gets more teams in than the ACC. San Diego State and Boise State could push out hallowed blue bloods UNC and Indiana.

Our fanbase tends to find one player to hammer on every year whether it was warranted (it usually isn't) or not. Right now it seems to be Fletch mostly with some Furst sprinkled in (so this year is the rare two-fer)....
And it’s incredible to me that it’s Fletcher. Fletcher has been pretty consistent and gotten better every year. Upped his ppg and shooting %.

I think he is a great 3b/4th option, if that makes sense. We need someone who was like Lance who can hit the 3, but also get to the bucket whenever he wanted, or as the shot clock winds down. We don’t have that this year.

Yeah I don't get it either. If he were on another team, I have little doubt those wanting him gone would be yelling that Painter let him get away and should have recruited him.

He's a leader on the team and is a great 3 point shooter. Yeah his defense is a weakness, but every player has SOMETHING they are not great at.

The problem is we lost DJ and catchings at times we couldn't recover which resulted in a gap in depth that is being asked to be filled by freshmen since Colvin/Cam (although Cam has come on late) who are going to be wildly inconsistent but still show some promise.

To me, we arguably lost our 4 best defensive presences / players in Edey, Jones, Gillis and Morton. Defense no longer lives here.

Agree with what you are saying. But the two guys we lost were freshmen too, so how much would they have actually helped? Biggest mistake this year was trying to backfill 4 seniors with 6 true freshmen. I hope the staff doesn't make that mistake again, and instead choose to tap into the portal.

We need to get old and stay old. We can't afford to wait 2-3 years for player development anymore as this is essentially a grown man semi-pro league.

DJ at least was showing some very promising signs, he needed some weight but just being that tall and on the floor would have changed things.

Really the timing to me had more to do with the timing of when it all happened and the entire team had to pivot ... again.
