I know this happened almost two weeks ago now, but I never saw it mentioned on here. If Marshall were Purdue's coach and this occurred, what would your reaction be?:

If I was the University president I would suspend him for a year! But it won't happen. Presidents don't have any guts when it comes to prima donna coaches

Heard the score keeper didn't add points for his team three different times. And some hometown refs were really putting the screws to his guys.

Is winning the game the primary concern? It seemingly should not be...and, when you not only are the visiting team, but visiting from an entirely differently country, you can pretty much count on refs putting the screws to you/your guys...get over it and deal with it and keep the focus on your team developing and gaining experience that it otherwise would not and that will hopefully pay off later when the games actually count/matter.

No, but the players have to know their coach is going to step up and protect them.If it was just poor refs, then you call a TO and explain the situation to your team and tell them to play through it. If he felt his players were under threat of injury because of dangerous play, He should have just taken his kids off the court and ended the game if it was that obvious (which it appears it was) that the refs and scorekeeper were working against them.

Not an aceptable display by any coach at any level from NBA down to kindergarten youth rec league. If the refs are hosing you it can be made clear without all of that silliness. If the situation is so bad that player health is an issue like I saw mentioned in another post, pull your team.

Suspended for a year? Give me a break. Did he batter someone? Maybe a verbal assault bit a year suspension is ridiculous. He could be fined and maybe some community outreach at most.

IU let it happen for 20 years but they also got five titles out of it. And I remember Gene Keady blowing up on several occasions. Maybe not to that extent but he blew up

And I know it don't look pretty but a lot of players like that type of coach because they know he will stand by them at all costs.

Obviously for him to blow up like that there had to be some really bad shit going on in that game we don't know we didn't watch it. I would like to think he blew up like this because of the refs was allowing rough play to where it could have hurt somebody and he was just standing up for his players.

If you look closely at the replay, one of the Euro players does give a pretty good shot to the guy who is taking the ball out after it goes in the basket. I think that was the straw that broke the camels back. I think he had had enough of biting his tongue and the refs seemed to not be doing anything about it. As I explained before, if your players health is a concern and the refs (who are responsible to keep the game clean and players safe) aren't doing their job, you pull your players. It is essentially an exhibition and won't count for or against you. Heck, even if it did...I would pull my players if a ref was allowing the other team to hit and push with no consequence.

Marshall was suspended for the following exhibition game.

Here's an excerpt from the news release:

In the news release, Marshall said he accepted the university’s decision.

“I fully accept the decision of the athletic department and the university,” he said. “As a program we expect to represent Wichita State University in a manner in which we can all be proud of, on and off the court. Last night, in my attempt to stand up for, and protect, my team I fell short of those expectations. I will gladly sit out the game in hopes that a lesson can be learned that it’s not just about doing the right thing, but doing it the right way.”

If you take him for his word (I know, that's asking a lot these days), lesson learned and should be the end of it.

Sometimes it's a tough balancing act.....trying to send a message/protect your players without going overboard and embarrassing yourself, the program, and the university.....sometimes, emotions get the best of us.

I still like him as a coach, overall.....and he's had a couple of really solid teams despite playing in a "non-Power 5" league. Maybe he's also figured out the grass isn't always greener....maybe not.
