Oscar Cluff to visit Sunday

I hear ya, but there are only so many minutes to go around. The 10-20 will go to someone else, but someone will be sitting like Waddle and Berg did this year. I don’t see TKR or Smith playing less than 30 min each, probably more.
Pencil in smith at 35. I could see TK staying around 30.

And agree with everything else you said for mins 😂

Maybe west shirts? But makes no sense now a days haha. I would think we get one more portal guy besides a front court guy

I would expect minutes as follows:

DJ/Cluff 20 min each
TKR 30 min
Colvin/Heide 20 min each
Cox/Loyer 20 min each
Braden 30-35 min
Harris 20 min
Remainder 10-20 min
I am not seeing the minutes quite so evenly divided. Loyer will play over 30 and Smith will continue to be on the court almost all of the time.

I can see a world where Loyer plays less minutes and we are better - just saying maybe less than 30
That’s fair. There are a lot of guys in the roster who could push him for minutes. They don’t bring what he does offensively, but Cox, Harris, and Colvin all showed a big upside on defense.

I do agree that Heide may split time between the 3 and 4, but he’ll have a lot of competition at both spots. It should be interesting.

DJ/Cluff 20min each
TKR 30min+
Colvin/Heide 20min each
Cox/Harris 20min each
Loyer 30min +/-
Braden 35 min
-Burgess, Benter and West are the wild cards, may be another year before they see the floor consistently. Burgess lost his minutes due to a foot/leg injury so he has to get healthy before giving him any meaningful role minutes.

Guessing rotations are more predictable than guessing minutes right now but I bet
Smith/TRK/Loyer are all 30mins+. High minutes for Loyer means he’s playing great or Harris/Cox/Colvin aren’t getting it done. If Cluff is added I see split minutes between him and Jacobson with the hot hand/better matchup getting more. I just hope others can step up so Smith and TKR can take more breathers throughout the game.

I feel like Cluff sees how he would fit at Purdue and has informed ISU and they have made other plans accordingly.

I cannot believe they would have signed that other player without receiving word from Cluff who probably was their top target.

I’ve said in other threads concerning NIL. That it is up to the AD how a school’s NIL is divided. My source says BIG 10 teams are going to see a huge increase in NIL money. And it has been pointed out by others that Purdue tends to give more NIL money to its basketball players than most colleges do. So basically the Purdue football team will have to suck it up and Cluff will receive a nice NIL package.

As for Flory, sorry guy, you entered the portal too late. And you’ll probably go back to Kansas now that Dickinson has left. Or maybe to Auburn.

If we have other shooters… West or Benter or transfer, I believe he could go into a time share, CMP clearly thought he was a hindrance on D this year, as he was frequently subbed on defense this year.
It was surprising to see Loyer on the bench very late in the Houston game. Painter was more concerned about playing defense than what he could bring offensively or as a foul shooter.

When TKR and DJ are in there together, I’m interested in to what extent DJ will be used as an outside threat to give TKR space to work. I think that they could pair well.
I think the very little I saw that DJ (even in warmups) can go to the perimeter and shoot. I also expect Trey to work on his perimeter shooting as well.

Thanks…. Definitely needs some time with Brantley, but I could see him helping us next year. If Brantley can round off the edges, and he’s going against TKR every day, he will improve. Looks like he has a little more range than TKR also.
Watched the 1st half of the Bama game and to me, Cuff looks like a bigger, whiter version of TKR. He looks like a low post, back to the basket offensive player with range to 15 (I didn't see the 2nd half so not sure if he extended his shooting range). Not a great athlete or leaper. Looks like he's not afraid of being physical.
Is he a Kevin Love or Dickinson type?

Based on a very small sample size, not sure I'd see him as the No.1 big in the portal?

Hopefully NOT a Dickinson type. He seems to actually want to rebound unlike Hunter. So closer to love between the two but not like love where he is going to consistently step out and hit a 3. We need Oscar to rebound alongside TKR…this will also allow TKR to be more aggressive on defense and rebounding.

Also, can we practice setting on ball screens this offseason!? 😂

i believe you may think of jacobsen and Cluff as the second coming of Haarms and Haas. Not sure if they ever played together. short term memory is gone. Jacobsen has an outside shot. cluff can be inside. we don't need 20,000 three point shooters on our team. we can have our guards take more 3point shots and tkr, cluff and jacobsen collecting the rebounds. Cluff could add that physical presence in the paint. we could have jacobsen and cluff, or cluff and tkr or tkr and jacobsen and tkr.

i could see heide playing more at the three

i could see Loyer playing 5 less minutes. we have both West and benter coming in next year. Harris and cox will be a year older, and colvin is still around

Looking back, Jones was a perfect fit because on defense he could take the top target and covered for Loyer’s lack of defensive prowess. Maybe Cox or Myles or Harris could step up their defense and be that stopper and allow Loyer to go back to being a catch and shoot player. Defense has never been Loyer’s forte. Maybe Loyer could come off the bench and just fire away. We are fortunate to have so many options.

The key to Loyer and our other guards is to have a strong presence in the paint.

Give Benter a chance before writing him off. Ertel and West are 1/2s. Benter is a 2/3. Painter likes shooters and recruited him for a reason so I don’t see him leaving this year especially after a red shirt season with no film.
Those end of year 1 on 1 meetings with Painter could get interesting especially if they already got portal guys coming in for visits.
I've posted before, but a buddy who saw a game with Benter and Catchings came away and said that Benter was the better player (for that game, anyway). A friend that lives in Brownstown and attended all his games agrees. Coaches kid, so you know he's got the smarts for the game.

Were benter and catchings on the same team? There was a report Catchings was in town visiting. Maybe someone saw him and he was hanging out with benter.

I recall a few years back when Raphael (?) as a senior said he would gladly accept a position change or come off the bench if that was what Painter wanted. He said he would do anything coach wanted because he had faith in Coach. It didn’t happen, but he was willing to put the interests of the team ahead of his own needs.

I’m unsure of Loyer’s personality or his future plans. Would he accept a lesser role or a different role?

As I think of Loyer, I’m also reminded of Gillis. Gillis had to know going to Duke what his role this year was going to be and that he would play fewer minutes and be Flagg’s mentor.

I’m not suggesting Loyer should be replaced in the starting lineup or take a lesser role. What I’m saying is we have a lot of awesome options!

The highlights i saw showed him hitting at least one 3 pointer and some nice passing. Maybe a taller version of Trevion?

I noticed Dub posted a follow up to his initial post about Cluff in the depot about 30 minutes ago. I doubt it’s anything official. But obviously something is happening

I really think that Cluff and TKR can coexist, especially with Braden running the show. It helps that both are highly skilled and are excellent passers. It puts defense in a tough spot, especially if you add some great shooters to the mix. Doubling TKR would be really tough because you would have to account for Cluff, not just as a scorer but as an offensive rebounder.

I believe Cluff could coexist with either tkr or Jacobsen.

I saw one report that classified Cluff as a PF rather than center. I believe any of the three could interchange roles. But in saying that, I believe we need two big men and not Heide trying to be a big man at the 4. Heide is just not the answer at the 4 against the top teams.

Good post...agree

I thought the same thing.... His game is very much like TKR, but he's not as good of finisher (Brantley could fix that). I thought his shot from 15'-20' looked better than TKR's. I know a lot of people want to see TKR step out & shoot the 3 next year, but he is so solid around the basket, that I'm not sure it's necessary for Purdue (for him for the NBA, probably).

Loyer cooled off after his hot start in the game... which was huge to keep us in it. We came back by getting stops, which is not his strong suit.

I agree, but Loyer is usually in a tight game due to his offense and foul shooting. This game was kind of abnormally with him being on the bench in this situation.
