Oscar Cluff to visit Sunday

So how does this work with Trey? Neither shoots from outside the paint too often. Cluff does seem like a very capable passer though. Is it going to be a platoon situation? Are we going to play two guys down low like IU? Curious to see how this unfolds if Cluff does come here. I trust Painter.

You and I must be watching very different highlight reels.
Either that or I am exceptionally bad at evaluating talent. I suppose if the staff likes him, he must be a good fit.

Just wondering aloud if there isn't someone else who might fit this mold better, considering we are aiming for a national title. Lots of time still left on the transfer "clock" too...

Good sign for signing Cluff for us.
Seems like a great fit if he wants to be a Boilermaker. Gotta act fast in the portal world if you want you’re guy so props to Painter for getting him in here before the Iowa St visit. Hopefully he makes a decision before leaving campus now that this other dude signed with Iowa St.

Well he’s being ranked as the top portal guy.

We need to lock up guys that can help us for next year to secure the big 3 to be back next year.

Apparently he had already visited Iowa state prior to this visit and ISU was unable to strike a deal

Looks like he's #20 on the 247 board, and listed as the 3rd best center. We're also in contact with Nick Davidson, who is listed above him. Davidson's passes the eye test IMO, considering he can also put the ball on the deck and hit some 3's.

He had a short visit there and had decided he was coming to Purdue to compare and then go back to ISU was the gist of what I could figure out. I could be way off, just piecing together what I could find…

Wonder why the big difference on rating between on3 and 247?

Davidson cut his list to 5 schools… we’re not included

Is that a good thing? I have to admit, his highlight reel doesn't leave me very impressed.

But then again, I'm wrong lots. And lots. Just ask my wife.
I think it’s a positive after watching his highlights. Plays hard, rebounds and can put the ball in the hoop. I like the future of Jacobson/Burgess but they are young and have to show they can stay healthy!

Here's something I haven't seen posted yet. Against Alabama earlier this year he went for 21 pts and 15 rbs.

He's number 45 in the vid.

Solidifies the reason he'll fit right in here. He's got good footwork and has a nice touch.

For me it would be Davidson first and Cluff right behind him. If one chooses to pull the trigger. We shouldn't be disappointed.

Not sure what he brings on defense but it looks like he can rebound and we all know this team needs help rebounding the ball. Getting Jacobson back will help tremendously but adding another proven guy down there is a plus.

Thanks…. Definitely needs some time with Brantley, but I could see him helping us next year. If Brantley can round off the edges, and he’s going against TKR every day, he will improve. Looks like he has a little more range than TKR also.

TKR needs to improve his range as well - Guy for IU - flexor - didn’t do it - but if he does we will be tough

Completely agree with this. There were reports that Trey put a lot of work into his three in the offseason and I believe he took three threes in the first game but then DJ got hurt and he became strictly and pnr and post scorer, shooting four threes the rest of the season.

I suspect that Trey would welcome the opportunity to show that he can hit some open threes.

I know I balked at this at first, primarily because he's a scorer and I didn't know where the shots would come from, but assuming Trey is involved in the decision, I think this is huge on several levels: 1) elite rebounder 2) allows Trey to play more aggressive on defense with less fear of foul trouble 3) provides a different look from DJ on defense, one that is more likely to be able to switch five ways 4) provides another option on offense without giving up size.

I agree with this, but TKR was absolutely dominating in the post on offense. While CMP may let him pull the trigger a little more, history has shown, he likes the bigs to stay in their lane.

He could play with Heide at the four or with DJ for the most part as a backup to Trey. If he plays with Trey, they can play high low.

I get it and don't disagree. I'd argue that Trey is not Zach on a number of fronts: 1) the biggest reason that MP didn't have Zach take threes is that it took him out of rebounding position 2) Zach didn't need to shoot threes to play in the NBA (it doesn't hurt that he can), Trey absolutely does.

I don't know, but suspect that a significant reason why Trey would welcome the addition of Cluff is it allows him to get out of the post a bit more without hurting the team's chances at winning. MP plays to win, but he's also a pragmatist, which is why he let Biggie shoot a bunch of threes as a freshman.

Really blocks out hard. Plays physical. Ok athlete, can shoot a little bit, willing passer. He'd be a nice addition who can either play alongside Trey or spell him and is a nice change up to DJ.

Flory just declared yesterday?…and yet to be placed on the portal list. Flory is an outstanding rim protector….and a very good rebounder having 16 in one conference game this past season. Plus..he probably has more than one season left in college…and could play his natural position at the next level when Kaufman-Renn graduates.

Brinks truck 😉

West, Benter and Burgess need to fit in there and then a portal guy haha
I hear ya, but there are only so many minutes to go around. The 10-20 will go to someone else, but someone will be sitting like Waddle and Berg did this year. I don’t see TKR or Smith playing less than 30 min each, probably more.
