Oscar Cluff to visit Sunday

IF tkr plays the 4 then jacobsen is playing alot. Another center is needed. Getting this guy improves the team, adds depth, and competition. Imo, jacobsen will be a great player at purdue but maybe not next season. He will be a big contibutor on defense at a min. and a solid piece to go with the players coming back. I would love to get this kid and another athletic guard whos been around for a few years and has some handles.
When TKR and DJ are in there together, I’m interested in to what extent DJ will be used as an outside threat to give TKR space to work. I think that they could pair well.

I believe he got a good glimpse Friday night of how he would fit in and how good we will be next year if he joined us

Shows we are now actively recruiting over our guys that are still playing. I get that’s berg and burgess in this case, but still. If you don’t think that affects player psyche or put more pressure on them, that’s fine, just throwing it out there.
Seeing as none of Burgess, Berg, or Jacobsen could grab a rebound last night, I'd say that recruiting over them is exactly what needs to be done.

I will tell you this as a former coach who also ran a Legion program for years...If you're not recruiting over every player you sign, you're not really doing your job. Granted, it's one of my least favorite things to do, but if you don't the guys you coach against will be.

I will admit we need to add some strength and depth to our front court. I like Jacobsen. But we need someone to provide a physical presence in the paint and could play 20-30 minutes. Heide is nice, but he’s rather undersized to play the 4 much like Gillis was awesome but undersized to be a pf. We need that 6’11 guy that has some weight to throw around and grab a rebound. And use up his 4 fouls. And allow Jacobsen and tkr to play a little outside. Purdue did the best they could with the players they had. But small ball doesn’t succeed against the top 5 teams.

While none of us know if Jacobson will even play next year, but if he does, I'm guessing he's going to be pretty darned good. He can play the post, or he can move out to the four and he can hit threes which draws defenders and rebounders away from the paint, thus more boards.

Why would DJ not play next year???

I would think the only concern with Jacobson is how long will it take before he is in basketball shape. Hoping everything will be fine and after this summer conditioning program he’s off and running in the fall, but what if …
Agree. But if the videos of him towards the end of the season are remotely an indicator.. he'll be fine.

Yeah uhhh if he can’t get into shape by next season…

He will be ready to go and be playing 20 mins a night

I could see Cluff starting at center and Jacobsen playing 10-15 minutes at center and 10-15 minutes at the 4. And Berg watching from the Bench and Heidi and Burgess getting the remainder of available time

I think Burgess is the rumored transfer
That would make more sense than Berg. Burgess has more upside and appeal than Berg. Last fall, Painter made an odd comment about Burgess. He said Burgess couldn’t fill in for Jacobsen because he was just not ready yet to play. He didn’t elaborate if it was physical or mental or what. And Burgess never did get many minutes at Purdue as the season progressed. With Jacobsen coming back for 4 years, and painter recruiting a big man in the portal, burgess’s future at Purdue seems limited.

That wasn’t the question. The question was whether hitting the portal hard could disrupt team chemistry. The makeup of the S16 teams proves that you can completely build a winning roster through the portal and chemistry doesn’t matter.
Chemistry obviously matters, but some people act like Purdue is this fragile flower that will wilt if anyone is added. Jones didn't break anything. None of the portal players we've added have.

Folks want to "trust Paint" and then somehow don't when it comes to adding portal players.

Anyone so weak minded that added competition at this level messes them up should just concentrate on something other than high level athletics.

Was Furst "actively recruited over" when we got DJ? Was Morton when we got Jones? Should we have not gotten Jones last season and started Morton instead?

Loyalty isn't promising you'll never recruit better players, it's always being honest and always giving folks a fair shot to compete. That's all any of the players on this team care about and they pretty clearly get both.

Guessing 1 of Burgess or Berg goes, maybe both. Berg if he returns is likely a 5 max 10 minute a night player, he’s not quick enough, in my opinion he’s do well at a Valpo type program.

The only loyalty Painter should have is to the Purdue basketball program.

What do you think the future is for Benter?
Maybe I'm way off here. The videos I've seen of him. He reminds of Dakota when he came, a little chunky, not overly athletic, but knows basketball.

Dakota became such a smart player with his limitations. I'm hoping Benter can become that player. He's probably a little more athletic at this stage over Dakota.

Jesus Christ. My problem was more that we’re doing it in the middle of the tournament. It’d be like posting a job opening for an employee’s position right before they were going to finish a big project or give that big presentation they’d worked on all year. To act like that won’t affect their psyche or how they perform FOR THAT PROJECT is disingenuous. Everyone is human.

I will say that I think it worked out, and we were competitive against Houston. But point still stands.

It’s the nature of the beast at this point though.

Holy Cthulhu you think the players are scanning this board for posts discussing who we might get in the portal?

For the love of Buddha do you think the players missed when Painter literally said "we're going into the portal" before the game?

For Vishnus sake you sure think our team is filled with weak minded players.

What do you think the future is for Benter?
I don’t believe he has a future at Purdue. I would not be shocked if he is the second boiler to leave. You already have a crowded back court. And you have west arriving this year and Ertel arriving next year.

Look at the amount of athletes that entered the portal. It was 4 times greater this year than last year. It’s becoming if a player doesn’t start, he leaves

Oscar Cluff, On3’s No. 1 overall player in the transfer portal, has scheduled two official visits, according to a source.
The 6-foot-11 transfer center from South Dakota State will be at Purdue from Sunday, March 30th through Tuesday, March 1st. He will then head directly to Iowa State and will visit the Cylones from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday, March 2nd.

Cluff averaged 17.6 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game this season. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Cluff was All-Summit 1st Team and All-Defense this season“

Went to JUCO for first two years. So could be have two more years left?

Back to the OP......big day @ Purdue. Chances not great, but @ least CMP is up to bat taking swings.

Surprised other visits aren't scheduled though.
