Why’s that? What chemistry is getting messed up?literally have a game in the sweet sixteen tonight.. feels at least a little relevant to me..
Shows we are now actively recruiting over our guys that are still playing. I get that’s berg and burgess in this case, but still. If you don’t think that affects player psyche or put more pressure on them, that’s fine, just throwing it out there. Why’s that? What chemistry is getting messed up?
And that would have what to do with anything in this discussion?Lance was awesome. I’m just wondering how his SIU team mate would have done at Purdue rather than playing at Illinois!
It’s a nice to have, not a need to have. Talent is 100X more important. With college free agency, teams are built to win now. Purdue is a massive outlier. But the proof is in the fact that several top 10 teams have 60-100% turnover and still win.Completely disagree. There are multiple ways to win, but having a team cohesion is always a great asset.
These guys know what they’re signing up for. It’s the coaches job to constantly try to make the team better, which by definition, means bringing in better talent than what you have currently. If this hurts their feelings, maybe they should play D3 or something.Shows we are now actively recruiting over our guys that are still playing. I get that’s berg and burgess in this case, but still. If you don’t think that affects player psyche or put more pressure on them, that’s fine, just throwing it out there.
Got ya. I don’t think it will mess with any chemistry and the only guy we would be recruiting over is berg. RB is getting mins next year. And if anything, it creates competition. Also, we don’t know if berg has already told paint he is leaving.Shows we are now actively recruiting over our guys that are still playing. I get that’s berg and burgess in this case, but still. If you don’t think that affects player psyche or put more pressure on them, that’s fine, just throwing it out there.
Is it still relevant if we lose by 20?literally have a game in the sweet sixteen tonight.. feels at least a little relevant to me..
You missed my earlier post. I said he was basically the third greatest big man that’s transferring and we missed out on the first two. And that painter has a knack of transforming the second and third best choice into the best player. And that would have what to do with anything in this discussion?
This. Why would he mess with team chemistry or affect DJ?
I wish I had your optimism on DJ.I like the announcement that he has basically narrowed his choices to Iowa state and Purdue. And he has decided to visit Purdue first.
I’m not worried about Jacobsen. I doubt he plays more than 25 minutes next year. We don’t have much quality depth in the front court, so he could easily see 30+ minutes at 4 or 5. He could be that experienced big man we need.
As for NIL, I have to believe we can offer him as much money as Iowa st can offer.
As for Iowa st, they are a good team but I’m not sure what they will have coming back next year. If he wants to be part of a championship team, I would think he’d love to be part of a team with Braden, tkr, Jacobsen and Loyer. He seems like a perfect fit much like jones was.
And looking at the pros, Purdue has produced a bunch lately!
What I really like about him is unlike the guy from Iowa, this player likes to rebound!
I think he IS better than those 3. Do you not?I wish I had your optimism on DJ.
Painter thought he was better than Furst, Berg and Burgess.
That doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling.
Let's hope DJ can make a full recovery from his injury.
He had some hops and could be the rim protector we need.
I’m going to be efficient and reply to two posts with just one post.I think he IS better than those 3. Do you not?
Holmgren is a NBA star, that is quite the comparison lolI’m going to be efficient and reply to two posts with just one post.
My confidence in Jacobsen is not that he beat out Furst, Burgess and Berg to be our starting center. But rather it is two fold.
First, he made Painter change his mind about starting TKR at center and let him remain at the 4. The original plan before Jacobsen arrived was to have tkr play center and have Heide as the 4.
Second. Jacobsen Wasn’t just a part of that national team. He was one of its two star players and they had some very hot and hyped recruits on that team. And they won a championship. So he is both good and knows what it takes to be a winner.
While Edey didn’t start as a freshman we have had several big men who did start as freshmen. And while Jacobsen may not be playing games this year, he has been healthy enough to practice and train with the team and Purdue’s coaches next year. He will be ready
I compare him to Gonzaga’s Holgrem(sp). Who turned out to be pretty decent.
Lol you actively recruit over current players every time you recruit a high level high school player.Shows we are now actively recruiting over our guys that are still playing. I get that’s berg and burgess in this case, but still. If you don’t think that affects player psyche or put more pressure on them, that’s fine, just throwing it out there.
I mean I didn't share the future NBA star assessments after five minutes some folks have but it seems pretty undeniable he's better than those three to me.I wish I had your optimism on DJ.

Painter was also the first big time school to offer Holgren a scholarship. Painter has an eye for talent. I see a lot of similarities. They are both lean and tall. They both love to block shots. They both love to shoot outside shots. Neither player is very physical.Holmgren is a NBA star, that is quite the comparison lol
Teams with bad chemistry aren’t in the sweet sixteen. Duh.Is it still relevant if we lose by 20?
Do you think any Coach in the S16 isn’t going to say how much his players enjoy being around each other and what great chemistry they have?
I like your post - dead on - you have to go for it when you have the chance and that’s next year.This.
Chemistry…. Any chemist worth his Bunsen burner can look at next year’s roster and clearly observe that Purdue is missing some essential elements from its periodic table!
Any of our partial contributors who might be offended at having to EARN minutes next year should take a hard look at the portal.
IMO the impurity of bad “chemistry” is rendered inert in the crucible of winning.
Why not Wemby ?I’m going to be efficient and reply to two posts with just one post.

Because I like to do realistic comparisons. There were many people who had doubts about Holgren. He was not heavily recruited when he first appeared on the recruiting scene. A lot of blue blood teams didn’t recruit him . Did IU recruit him?Why not Wemby ?
I think so too. Painter thought so.I mean I didn't share the future NBA star assessments after five minutes some folks have but it seems pretty undeniable he's better than those three to me.
Sounds like a great get for us if we land him, but I find it hard to believe a kid from SDS is the top player in the portal.“Oscar Cluff, On3’s No. 1 overall player in the transfer portal, has scheduled two official visits, according to a source.
The 6-foot-11 transfer center from South Dakota State will be at Purdue from Sunday, March 30th through Tuesday, March 1st. He will then head directly to Iowa State and will visit the Cylones from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday, March 2nd.
Cluff averaged 17.6 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game this season. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Cluff was All-Summit 1st Team and All-Defense this season“
Went to JUCO for first two years. So could be have two more years left?
Baylor Scheierman was from SDSU and he was very good at Creighton for 2 yrsSounds like a great get for us if we land him, but I find it hard to believe a kid from SDS is the top player in the portal.
Ross did you use chatgpt or did you come up with all those puns yourself? This.

That wasn’t the question. The question was whether hitting the portal hard could disrupt team chemistry. The makeup of the S16 teams proves that you can completely build a winning roster through the portal and chemistry doesn’t matter.Teams with bad chemistry aren’t in the sweet sixteen. Duh.
Look no further than an hour south…
I channeled my inner Born Boiler.Ross did you use chatgpt or did you come up with all those puns yourself?
I have no idea if he is or not, but plenty of examples of great major conference players that came from smaller schools. Knecht last year is perfect example.Sounds like a great get for us if we land him, but I find it hard to believe a kid from SDS is the top player in the portal.

We need an athletic power forward who can shoot and score, not a slow back to the basket centerI have no idea if he is or not, but plenty of examples of great major conference players that came from smaller schools. Knecht last year is perfect example.
He’s not slowWe need an athletic power forward who can shoot and score, not a slow back to the basket center
Was top one based on their ratings at the time. He’s very good.Sounds like a great get for us if we land him, but I find it hard to believe a kid from SDS is the top player in the portal.
Not sure what you are addressing to me, but for the record, he isn't slow.We need an athletic power forward who can shoot and score, not a slow back to the basket center
IF tkr plays the 4 then jacobsen is playing alot. Another center is needed. Getting this guy improves the team, adds depth, and competition. Imo, jacobsen will be a great player at purdue but maybe not next season. He will be a big contibutor on defense at a min. and a solid piece to go with the players coming back. I would love to get this kid and another athletic guard whos been around for a few years and has some handles.I’m going to be efficient and reply to two posts with just one post.
