Omer Mayer has committed

Now can we keep harris and cox with this development
I think Cox for sure, as for Harris, it’s on him, if he performs well the playing time will be there. I think Mayer spells Smith 8 minutes a night at the point, maybe he’ll play alongside him 10 minutes a game as well, still leaves plenty of minutes at the 2 spot. I do think Purdue lands a 3 as well to close the offseason. I guess maybe a 4-5 happy to be here might come aboard as well for depth purposes.

I'm thinking Mayer starts day 1. From everything I've seen & read, he looks like the real deal. I could see a 3 guard lineup with Mayer, Braden & Loyer, with Cox, Harris & Benter coming off the bench. There will be a lot of competition in practice... that's for sure.

Good post, does this close Purdue pursuing a 3? I still have hopes for Davis. Also, I’ll say 50/50 Harris stays, not sure he’ll be patient for another season of playing off the bench, I hope he sticks around, not sure now.

Likely a 3 gaurd lineup, so 120 mins to go around. Cox and Harris should still play a lot for defensive reasons. Loyer and Smith might have slight dip in minutes too, but might not be bad thing if it keeps legs fresh for post season.
If this is true I wonder if it closes the adding a wing possibility? Initially I thought Mayer was mostly backing Smith up and maybe playing the 2 ten minutes or so a game.

Not sure how he fits tbh.

In other news for Myles, I saw wake signed two guards with a bit more ppg than him…so hopefully he will have a better opportunity but I’m skeptic at this point in the way too early offseason.

I'm not sure there are minutes for anyone else that would commit.. unless they are an absolute stud 3. This team is going to be loaded with 3 point shooting & with an front court of TKR, Cluff & DJ... We're going to be a hard cover for any team.

This is a huge addition! I don’t want anybody to leave but would completely understand if they did. I have to believe his recruiting process has been more than 4 months. With Painter being so honest, I am led to believe Myles and Heide knew he was coming! This reminds me of when Loyer and smith arrived, both it and Hunter left knowing what their future would be

Indianapolis or bust now. If it wasn't already.

Harris/Cox have 6 days to enter the portal. I'm hoping both stay this year. But between West, Benter, Cox, Harris, Loyer, Smith, Mayer, our playing time at guard is not very large.
Guessing West redshirts, he likely knows this, if he doesn’t it’s possible he leaves, we’ll see.

I could see Mayer coming off the bench or platooning this year and being a part of a national championship and then staying for another year and increasing his NIL and becoming the featured player next year. A Mayer / Jacobsen combo would be awesome

I think this makes 11 players on scholies right now, Matt will likely add a player or two more that might be fine being a role playing/depth piece. Injuries happen, 11 is cutting it short especially if West redshirts.

Agree. I think they’d like to add a backup big 3 / stretch 4 to give options around lineup flexibility and to have another body at the 4 in case RB isn’t healthy.

Liam Murphy is next and last

Appears to have good handles and size, fairly athletic. Will he start day one? Only if he plays decent defense at this level. These video highlights can't tell us that. Likely will have to earn a starting slot as the season moves forward.

Liam Murphy is next and last
From Hammer and Rails:

This may not be the last piece Purdue looks to add this off season as former North Florida forward Liam Murphy was rumored to be visiting Purdue yesterday along with a number of other potential players being rumored to have been contacted by Purdue as well. With Mayer’s addition, Purdue now has 10 players rostered with the ability to add as many as 15 due to scholarship expansions. Purdue is likely to not add more than 12 and reserve three spots for current walk-on players Aaron Fine, Sam King, and Josh Furst.

Totally logical all the way around. I don't see any reason to have more than the standard 13. Promote 2 or 3 that would normally be walk-ons to be scholarship athletes, but really only because you don't have another choice. Hold tryouts every year for those 2-3 spots.

I generally agree, but I think it will depend on the year. Might be some years worth using the extra scholly

I don't see Mayer starting this year but he will get minutes. He will get the chance to learn from Braden for a year then him and Ertel will man the point potentially for years if the portal doesn't get them.

We are so deep, if we can keep the injury bug away this might even be a better team than when we had Troy Lewis, Everett Stevens and Todd Mitchell.

Our practices will be intense. I hope our preseason schedule is equally as intense. If you want to be the best you need to play the best.
