Offered Sterling Manley today

Wow.......we're not aspiring to be like Butler? Are you F'ing kidding me? I realize that Butler has gone to more FF's than PU in....forever, but wow....aspiring to be Butler from a high-major Power 5 program... Sad.

Butler has had more recent tournament success than most P5 programs. If tournament success is all that matters, then why would it be a bad thing. You people on the other side of the fence lose track of all logic and don't even realize how foolish you sound.

We all asked for this, remember? Three or four years ago people were saying that painter had to start going after four and five star players if we were ever to get over the hump. Painter has started recruiting higher on the list. because he can. With that comes uncertainty and delayed commitments. We are somewhat used to three star guys saying yes by this point. The fact that we don't turn players over as fast as the blue so playing time may be a concern. So what do we want three stars that will commit early or taking chances on four and five start that typically don't commit early. Painter has offers out to some really good players. If we miss on them all I will be concerned, but I don't think we will.

That's a very reasonable take. I just need to be patient and see how this all shakes out. I love that we are going after some big names, I just don't like the waiting/uncertainty that goes along with that.

Good post, made me rethink my position.

Great level headed and spot on post.

Right on target, and well expressed. We need to watch and see how this class shakes out. Painter is being careful in targeting kids that are both good players and good fits.

Remember, not all 4-5 star players are kids you would want on your team, and many are simply not up to playing to their ranking. Many 3-4 star kids turn out to be better players in the long run. Anyone recall 5* Hanner Peria? Often the norm more than the exception.

There was a recent study done about how top ranked high school players affected the teams they joined. It would be a good refresher class to re-read that article. It was an eye-opener for me. To summarize, FF teams are more likely to form from 3-4 year players that understand the game. Top 10 players tend to have a adverse NCAAT impact on the teams they join, if not surrounded by other top 10 players (Like UK).

It would also help if you paid the money and realized that there are reasons this kid is being offered late buy the power programs. People are reading too much into the lateness of the offer as a belief Painter won't get some other recruit.
Is he "blowing up" now due to late development and coaches realizing he is a player? Not every kid matures at the same rate.

You don't even really have to pay money to figure that out. When you see Purdue offers someone on twitter, just google their name and you can find all sorts of comments and evaluations on them. I searched his name on twitter and found someone who covers Ohio recruiting who called him the "fastest rising prospect in Ohio". It's nice to have GBI do that for you though and hear Brian's opinion on various prospects. The basketball coverage and related recruiting coverage (for basketball only) are things I miss from being premium.

GREAT take.

I think a lot of us thought 2017 could have been a special class, and now it looks like it won't be. Not saying Painter is a horrible recruiter.

There will be a whole lot of minutes to be found if Vince ends up sliding back to the 4 and with what appears to be Haas staying 4 years at the 5. That leaves 3 positions...one of which will be the off guard spot locked down by Carsen Edwards. That leaves a PG and a small forward. In reality, those are the positions that we should be seeing commits to that would be considered high ranking players. However, because Vince can play the 3 and 4 interchangeably, it shouldn't be hard to sell a recruit on the ability to come to Purdue and play in 2017 as a pg, sf, or pf. It isn't an issue of playing time in the near future.

Really good post, but I am not very patient.
