Not my Purdue. To much time on her hands.

I'm old and have wasted more than half of my life except those hours playing pinball at Wiley Hall. Should I really waste another 4 hours reading her book? Somebody on Facebook wants me to read the Federalist Papers to learn more about the context of the language of the second amendment. That is taking my time away from playing bubble witch saga.
ha ha...and therein lies the problem! Not aimed at you, but the reality is people really don't give a $hit about education...they just pretend. They don't care about understanding the influences that change society. I used to get about 50-70 emails daily concerning education topics...mostly clearinghouse things and such and I too wasted a lot of time in school improvement groups and such. I've discussed educational pedagogy with national policy advisers that didn't think subject knowledge was that important for teachers. I fully understand the time. Elaine McEwan (Atkins I think now) wrote about parents similar to boarding a plane. They enter the plane and turn to the right and take their seat leaving the pilot alone to take them to Texas, when they think they are going to North Carolina. Here is the thing...The goal as established by Dewey when he returned from Prussia was social reform for education. As we see various things that are widespread in this country...there are but a few things that affect all..air...water and a lot of time in schools and/or possibly TV and such. It is what it is...as I unfortunately know all too well...

REad the Federalist Papers as well

I saw this yesterday and almost posted it. It's sad we're in any way shape or form associated with this.
Purdue OWL is the most recognized and recommended resource for writing rules .... they simply stated what has been correct for many years. They didn't make the rules, they simply put them in one place and made them easy to find.

Police have always been Police Officers, not Policemen. Purdue did not define them as officers.

I agree that it is ridiculous and that she appeared unhinged at times on her stance. If I was writing a research paper on God for Religion and Society and used 'he' instead of 'she', would the OWL want me to change that? It's stupid.
The OWL simply makes current best practices available to see ... It has no desire for you to do the right thing ...

Yes, Yes, Yes .... and maybe do a small bit of research (it's easy) to determine the religious thoughts of the founding fathers.
If you go to D.C. you can see many quotes the media would never have you to believe...and if you go inside the Washington Monument and they stop it so you can see the stones from various countries and states...it too will reflect something different than the media would have you to believe.

The interviewed is not a Purdue person, just some wacko lib getting all enthusiastic about a Purdue writing guide.

I do not mind the rules for writing being written down by Purdue.

My only hope for the future of today's youth is that they will find some semblance of wisdom with age and responsibility. I voted for Carter and Clinton (once!) but would never lean that way today. Living in the socialist welfare state of IL has reinforced my belief that nothing good can ever come from today's Democrat party.

So, does this mean we have to change Spanish words like hermano or hermana, because those words could be offensive to a small minority of English speaking PC think tankers?

Can we add 40 ladies to sign the Constitution? Better yet it should be greater than 50 so we can have 1 from each state as to not offend any specific state. Maybe we should add 1 from every town, or maybe everyone should sign it, including foreigners.

I am OFFENDED you call her a liberal. Next thing, you'll be calling her a democrat. in watching the interview, it didn't appear she really believed or had passion in anything she was saying. that entire piece was planned and scripted and staged.

Johnny, don't hate me for saying this, but I think you are pretty close to being red-pilled! You seem to be in the Bill Clinton 1990's sort of liberal mold, which is closer to modern day center-right than the modern day left, which is being overcome by the far left.

Freedom of speech has flipped from a platform for the left (not saying the pledge, flag burning, censorship, etc.) to a platform for the right (safe spaces, gender pronouns, whitesplaining, mansplaining, anything qualifying as "hate" speech, etc.).

Omygoodness... go back and view some of the videos from the 90's. At that time, today's democrats (the ones that are still in office, or were within the past couple of years) were saying then what Donald Trump is saying today, re immigration, border security, etc.

Heck, for that matter, listen (read) speeches by JFK.

That right there will curl your hair.

I just heard yesterday that Diane Feinstein is being rejected by radical leftists in the CA Democrat party. She's not radically left enough. And, with her I've found very little I can support.

This is a bizarre time to be alive, if you follow the politicians who want to rule over you.

She is just as stupid here as before, but if Purdue has really moved the needle to this level of victim hood...shame on Purdue. I was going to try to investigate this, but sooo many other things at this time. This is not the first time she embarrasses or should embarrass those that choose to be a victor rather than a victim.

I went to the On-Line Writing Lab when this first appeared on Twitter. It does encourage using more descriptive words when writing to encourage gender neutral descriptions. But it also discourages use of double pronouns such as “he/she” etc as being distracting to subject matter. I saw NOTHING that banned anything. It made suggestions like using “manufactured” instead of “man made” ( which totally blows away most of that ridiculous piece as it specifically includes man-ufactured as a positive example). Whomever Tucker’s intern researchers were for this piece really were pathetically inept or IU journalism students... But guess I am being very redundant with that last statement.

Based on he teachings of our most recent ex-President to be correct that would be "govfactured" since man hasn't made anything in this country.

I want to reiterate I am offended by the usage of the word IU in a post here. I believe it's usage should be banned or replaced with a more descriptive adjective.

My apologies...that school in southern Indiana....lol!

The gender non-specific "I" should be replaced with the more accurate "PUSSY" ... thus, it is now PUSSYU. ////

Read diane's book to get some background on what is going on in this country. Her interest is K-12. She is well regarded in education circles and quite the historian. Diane provides the understanding of what is going on. The woman on YouTube is just nuts . Diane is highly respected...

I'm offended anyone gets offended, but agree with you anyway. ;)

What do we do as the world stage has more influence? German nouns are all masculine, feminine or "neutered"... ;)

well,, I was, but I have practiced altered-by--Jack restraint .... for enough years that it worked this time
make no mistake I have some Jack right now, but was not drinking at the time. Tried posting with my phone and can hardly see it. We watched the Ill/Iowa game and will see most of the next one..well, at least I will! ;)

OMG - like wow, like yes .... dbl OMG

Now, education reform..., so, it could eliminate welfare (if done totally right, but no way) ... could eliminate joblessness =(well close at least) ... eliminate need for insurance (yes, it could), and hopelessness ( the cause for much drug usage, suicide, gangs, and ???) .... but well ... hell ...

Was this woman not a part of the show? I saw sarcasm all over both of their faces like they both knew this was stupid and were trying to highlight just how stupid this is. She almost laughed like 10 times.

I got my PhD in English at Purdue and use OWL all the time to teach my students how to use MLA and APA formatting, among other things. Tucker is taking something that is a largely trivial aspect of the Purdue OWL to create false outrage. MLA probably does call for gender neutral language for all nonspecified pronouns. For some, God's gender is undetermined. For others, that gender is obviously clearly defined.

All of this is meant to perpetuate Fox News' largely hypocritical attacks on higher education and "elitism." Tucker went to Trinity College, which is one of the most expensive private colleges in the country and attended private schools throughout his childhood.

Then Tucker should know Purdue is a public school and not some preppy private college. But he probably also knows his audience is so stupid they believe everything he says .

So would she be offended by all the feminine words that have ress at the end like actress and seamstress, empress, adulteress, and temptress? Admittedly bathrooms would be confusing if the sign just said PERSON!

Our Air Force would be interesting changing their names to Air People.

I know three of those words have been neutered in speech and writing for awhile. Actor, Seamster, and Adulterer are the preferred words for either male or female. It's something that doesn't require prime time coverage though.

Good Lord. It's no wonder fox news viewers are so misinformed. What a bunch of echo chamber nonsense. It's just two losers babbling back and forth about nothing. Just ignore it and move on, people. Why does everyone have to get offended about every jackass on tv who finds some idiot to make fun of? If this is the worst thing that happened to you today, I'd call that a good day...

While I'm waiting on the zone and man questions to come up..just want to say that all people are either xx or xy genetically. Some lean more than others towards each of their defined genetics, but the DNA is determined at birth.

No, your DNA is determined at conception. It can be ascertained either at birth, post-birth or even ante-birth. Nature is binary regardless of the view of social scientists (with very, very rare exceptions.)

Especially Jefferson, who dissected a Bible for his version (the Jeffersonian Bible) where he essentially only took the stories of Jesus' teachings and removed the parts he felt were exaggerated and that he didn't agree with...mostly being the miracles like the feeding of the thousands with 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread.

That's sort of what I was saying...but let my emotions take hold of an idiotic topic to be played on a national news outlet.
