Yeah would we have liked to win? of course, Michigan came out and played as well as they have all year, even with their best we continued to claw back. That's the home team fending off that surge, when we do that on a neutral court they do not have the same staying power.

We have a skilled and resilient team, I am not even worried.

On to the next one. Boiler Up my friends!

Well, I'm worried...always worried, but what you said has a lot of truth adn by the same token we know where Purdue struggles...and both (resilent and physical issues) do not change

well I had us losing to either psu or Mich. If psu would not have been 2-18 from 3, that would have been a L. I got us losing to NW too.

I think we handle NW but I did think if Michigan shot well we were in trouble. That said f Painter starts CE instead of Cline and had Edwards on Wagner instead of Caleb I think we have a much better start.

Idk about starting CE over cline bc that assumes same production as a starter but I will agree with VE on Wagner. Additionally, I believe Painter made great adjustments such as switching screens and posting VE we just fell down too deep of a hole. We will learn from this.

Boiler Up.

Michigan started the game on fire and with a desperate will to win. Would have liked us to make some more adjustments in the first half, but it is what it is. We got a heat check and I hope this makes our resolve to thrash IU even greater.

It's not a big deal, but this not the time of year to slump...as a Purdue fan I always worry. But like you said, today wasn't a big deal for Purdue...Iowa helped out, and if MSU pulls one off tomorrow then today never happened....sort of.
agree, this team is to talented to be down 20 to anyone. We haven't played well the last few games.

Whether we get a 4 seed or a 5 seed, there really isn't too much difference. There is however a big difference with a #3 seed. Our chance for a #3 seed probably went out the window today! I totally disagree with starting Cline over Carsen! I mean, get real! I hope that little experiment is over! Painter better get his head on straight or we are going to be out the first weekend of the tournament!

I agree. Cline is very 1 dimensional and this team needs a slasher like Carsen on the floor.

I have given this stat before but..... The biggest difference in 1st round win % is between the #4 and the #5 seed line. There is a 15% advantage for the #4 seed over the #5. Much less difference between the #3 and #4.

We do not want to be a #5 seed.

The reason, I said it was because provided you avoid the first round upset, you are playing the #4 seed in the second round as a #5 seed or playing the #5 seed as the #4 seed. I agree however that the #12 vs #5 games are notorious for upsets and pretty common!

Edwards on Wagner for sure....maybe CE...not as clear there. Wonder how practice has been going for Cline and Carsen?

looking like 4/5 line; 6 if things go South. tough break for the Boilers as Duke, Florida, and Baylor went down today.

Carsen provides things this team needs...no question. I haven't checked the minutes..did Carsen get his usual? Carsen not starting has nothing to do with what happened today. Carsen played better today than the previous few games adn no doubt will continute to see no loss in his minutes. Maybe Cline has really been on fire this week? Maybe Matt saw Michigan taller and a more spot shooting team where Cline wouldn't get beat off the dribble and have some more length? Maybe Matt saw it crucial to establish an inside low post game and with Carsen not shooting well...maybe he thought Cline would be a better threat. Coaches see HOURS of film and see how players are playing...maybe all that played?

Do I think Carsen brings more than Ryan day in and day out...YES! I see Carsen as an X factor that "could" change a game or win a game when needed, but I also saw a kid running into a brick wall and taking a few off balanced shots, getting too many blocked the previous games...and not being the threat from the 3 consistently (he is VERY streaky). Starting Carsen wouldn't have won this game. No chemistry issues going on...Ryan may not be able to handle a quick guy but at 6'5" or so he may handle a spot shooter. I'm much more concerned that Haas keeps getting sped up and that Biggie has so many doubles and lately his rebounds are less than half of what he averaged. I'm not seeing two people take him ...so not sure what is going on...

I'm a big Carsen fan, but don't see a huge concern since he never started today. Vince was moved from a starting spot...Haas as well..and AJ before them. Today's play will probably put him back in for IU...but the main thing is to keep his minutes

Was PSU a heat check or gut check or whatever you want to mask it as or is it the start of a slump at the wrong time of the year? Yes, they beat PSU but anybody that came from that game with a positive feeling saw something different than I did.

I too think this team is in a hole right now, I thought the Penn State performance was a trap/looking forward to the Michigan game but apparently they weren't focused on Michigan either. It's no coincidence that biggie is playing his worst ball of the year and so is Purdue. Gotta get him going and I honestly thought benching him @ PSU would have done it but it didn't... This team has resilience but im still a little worried. Bright side is if they get rolling they have the ability to do some serious damage from here on out in the tournaments. Boiler up!!

I think this team lacks gritty leadership. Painter wants to work with nice kids and he has a bunch of them on this team. But these may not be the kids who will refuse to lose. The good Purdue teams had some pretty tough cookies - Kramer comes to mind.

As a general statement of today and 10 years down the road...or 30 years ago, there is "some" truth in what you said. Many years ago if one were to reference the background of players you could see hardships they endured and how that competitive spirit was created. All through life there are examples of what you suggest. Shoot, if I overwhelm people with my athleticism I may not see teh need to develop my skills. Look at graduations rates. All without SEVERE learning problems can graduate from high school, and yet many don't. They have no problem remembering important phone numbers, but now how to add fractions. If an alternative is comfortable enough a choice might be different than if that decision were more crucial. Biggie is a MADE ball player. Probably 90% or the people his size are more athletic. He wasn't born to shoot or pass the ball...those are developed skills and I think he is pretty darn competitive. By the same token, Carsen seems pretty competitive as well and I know he hasn't endured the same hardships as Biggie. Competition by the very nature is competitive and sometimes those refusing to lose have a different mindset than those that want to win.

I think Purdue has come a long way with these good kids that represent Purdue well...and yet could still win the Big...a long way from just a couple of years ago...

Drop the doom and gloom. Get your head up. We have a very good team.
