It should be a fun season. I am curious to see how Purdue does against Vill., Louisville and ND. You would hope these games will get Purdue ready for the Big Ten season. Honestly, my goal this season would to finally win a crossroad classic game in Indy and win come tournament time.
November is coming! Is it too early to discuss predictions on the nonconfernce schedule and perhaps more details, matchup discussions, etc. on some of the more interesting games? Curious to see what some of you think. Also, when is the top secret scrimmage with WVU?
Tex: I bit the bullet yesterday and bought tickets to the Crossroads. I'm not going there to see us lose to that damn leprechaun! Put it in the bank!!Put me in the "Crossroads or Bust" camp this year.....
Is this a picture from Lake Jackson TX? I used to go there for business and remember those two roads intersecting. Always liked the sense of humor, and it's real!Put me in the "Crossroads or Bust" camp this year.....

I'll go on a limb and predict that Purdue wins the Villanova game, as well as the ND game. I am really optimistic about this Purdue team. It's never too early to discuss anything Purdue hoops-related. Many of us have discussed topics related to this upcoming season on and off since March. As far as the non-conference schedule, I predict they will go 10-3, with their losses being to Villanova, @ Louisville, and a surprise loss thrown in somewhere (NJIT at home will be my guess), but I DO believe they will finally win a game in the Crossroads Classic, beating Notre Dame!

I've seen a few predictions on the boards here and I keep seeing a lot of "50/50" on PU winning the Cancun event. Even though these are Power 5 conference teams, they are middling teams in their conference and the Boilers should be handling these types of teams.
Who are the middling teams in the Big Ten this season? Michigan? Ohio State? Northwestern? Maryland? Penn State? Would you be shocked if we dropped a game or two from that group this season? Just because we're not as familiar with these teams in other conferences doesn't mean that they are pushovers. Hopefully we can handle those teams on a neutral court but if we drop one it's not a reason to freak out. They major conference opponents and they may end up being much better than the "middling" we label them to start the year.
This may be true about Texas Tech and Auburn, and yes I would compare to Penn State and Nebraska. I would be pretty disappointed losing to a team like that on a neutral floor as a top 20 type team.

I think there's a big difference between a middling major 5 team on a neutral court, and a middling major 5 inner-conference team on the road. These players play each other twice a year for 4 years many times, so they know their tendencies and how to work against them. And it makes it that much harder on the road. Besides, I wouldn't quite say Maryland, Michigan, and OSU are "middling" Big Ten teams. Maryland I believe is a preseason top 20 team, and Michigan/OSU are not far behind them.
That said, Purdue needs to be completely focused against those teams in the Cancun Challenge, otherwise they will be humbled and lose a game they shouldn't.
Also, I say we go 12-1, storm into conference play as a top 5-10 team in the nation, with our lone loss being @ Louisville, meaning we beat defending champs Villanova with a PACKED Mackey Arena, rocking a 7.0 on the Richter scale.
First exhibition game is November 1. I'd say it's a great time to start looking at it.

I think we all expect to be challenged by Villanova, Louisville, and Notre Dame. Arizona State and Auburn/TT games probably won't be easy either. It's the other games that are hard to project because we know so little about the small conference teams. Which of those games are cupcakes and which are teams that figure to be at or near the top of their conference that could challenge for an NCAA bid?
Well the Big Ten has 14 teams. You figure the top teams might be Wisconsin, IU, MSU, and us. The bottom teams are maybe Rutgers, Minnesota, Penn State, and Nebraska. That would leave teams like Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State, Illinois, Maryland, Northwestern as the teams in the middle. You can sub out teams from one group to another if you want but no matter how you slice it there will be some decent teams in the middle.
