Nojel

two absolutely massive rebounds and put backs during a dry spell. Huge.

He didn’t try to do too much, and likely won’t need to this year, but he can do some things with his size at his position that can’t be taught.

Once he hones his skills a bit, kid is going to be a good one, in time.
damn near got his hands on a couple of passes from the guy he was defending ...almost made a mistake early in the game in a cross court to vince, but it made it. This will help him knowing he made important contributions.

Hell yes they were good job NE!!

It was stated in another thread that from a D perspective and the ability to drive to ball and do some of the things he did tonight, Nojel deserves some of Cline’s Min. Nothing against Cline, but Nojel is a different dynamic when on the floor. As long as he is not turning to ball over he should be getting some more time. I am sure the game film will show that.

Love cmp’s hsndling of Nojel - he is gaining confidence and game is slowing down for him - we all know he has the ability to be special - could be the “x factor” by tourney time

We lose tonight without him.

Clutch, clutch plays by him, and an all around strong performance outside those two possessions as well. He’s put together an extended stretch of strong basketball

I think we should setup our defensive coverage after our shots, to intentionally allow Eastern to crash the offensive boards as much as possible. I think he should be able to get 4-6 pts most games just based on his size/athleticism mismatch against smaller guards trying to box him out.

I think we stumbled on something today

Been passive in the whole Treed/Nojel conversations in the past, but he’s getting it, he picked us up when we were down tonight with two huge plays, mom’s always have confidence in their children, after tonight, we all have have confidence in Nojel....u can’t teach that kind of heart...between him, Haarms, and C-Boogie, they will help take these seniors where they belong, can’t wait to watch!!!

IMO he should take any minutes that Eifert gets and shouldn't always run point. He is such a good rebounder that he is a game changer for purdue on the boards and is big and long enough to guard smaller bigs

I have seen a lot of freshmen on various teams who hit their stride in March, and I could see him doing that. If he could take it to the next level at the end of this year, it would really take our tournament potential up a notch. Our bench is thin.

I am looking forward to watching him next year. He will probably play 30 minutes a game next year with four starters leaving.

Eifert is worth more than we're paying him and came up big in limited minutes tonight.
they went on the big run when eiffert was in the game, he doesn't rebound as well as advertised and does not ad much on either end of the court besides huslte. Eastern gives you better rebounding athleticsm and the threat to score on offense

We clearly didn't watch the same game. First half Eifert had two offensive boards on the same possession and the last one led to a Mathias three. Grady won't win you many games but he won't ever lose you one either. All in all great team win!

I admit this is interesting. I will say Eifert played well tonight though, but may be a way to get more time for Nojel as he continues to improve.

I think in this case you are both right (Guppie and Si). Both kids played damn good game. Eifrts hustle is his value. Getting Nojel more time I s also good. Tough call for the coach.

Great effort on the boards. One thing his teammates need to be aware of, though, is when he is in the game and crashing the basket, that means someone else needs to get back on defense.

There was a costly exchange in the 2nd half when UM was making their run. Carsen came down the court quickly with the ball off a missed shot. Cline ran to the left elbow and Eastern ran to the basket. Haarms and VE trailed the play. The pass went to Cline who missed the 3. Eastern was there for the offensive rebound, but down came VE who inadvertently knocked the ball away to UM. Haarms was also crashing in for the rebound, leaving only CE and a recovering Cline in position to defend the UM transition. Result was a 3-on-2 layup, and a 5 point possession for UM when they got the offensive rebound off the missed and1 free throw.

This exchange immediately followed Eastern subbing in for PJ, so I can't help but think awareness of who was on the court contributed to the confusion.

This kid gets more love on this board than any other players on the team.

Eifert looks pedestrian out there on the court. He doesn't make mistakes, but there is little upside to his game IMHO. Eastern is earning and deserving of minutes because of his D alone.

In tonight's game Eifert gave us a few rebounds. Eastern gave us a few rebounds, better D, and some points to go with it. I am not a fan of a 6'6" guard playing at the PF position, but I think think a lineup of Haas/Eastern/Mathias/CBoogie/Thompson > than than a Haas/Eifert/Mathias/CBoogie/Thompson lineup.

I think we'll see mostly see Haarms at the 4 when VE is on the bench, but last night wasn't his night.
