Nic Caraway Gets Rivals Bump

Yeah not downing stu.. but I just feel like it’s not quite the impact of a guy who comes in at a position where true freshman rarely even play .. then is a force from day one. A guy who will probably go top 15. You aren’t gonna get that guy again next year .. but at the very least you can do what the coaches did and parlay it into a couple nice incoming freshmen.

no player I can recall has come in and been the force George is. And people can say David.. yeah, great player, but this is a pass happy offense. George came in and lifted Notre dame right tackles off the ground and parked them in the QBs lap. As a physical force .. you probably have to go back to Rod Woodson to beat George here at Purdue. Then, unlike stu, Orton and others.. the coaches went out and turned it into quick results in recruiting.

Again, none of this is meant to be a knock on anyone … I’m actually giving props

"...but..."

Stu was "a force from day one".

I don't give a fat rat's @ss about comparing Stu to GK. To do so is idiotic and pointless.

All I said was GK to me is a force we haven’t had. Someone else came in with stu

and I just think it’s harder to get players who can be a force up front if you’re a purdue. Not trying to start some shit

No player you can recall has came in and been a force like George? Rondale Moore was the 1st true freshman All American in B1G history, 4th in the history of college football.

Again you have to control for how difficult it is to be a force at Purdue up front … we’ve had great receivers .. how many guys up front have we had who demanded triple teams.

Spectacular player but didn’t have the impact as a true freshman that Moore did, no player since I’ve followed Purdue (99) has had a greater freshman year than Moore.

First true freshman All American in B1G history. It really can’t be debated honestly.

did I say “as a freshman?” George was just a more explosive player when you consider how much harder it is to do that at the LOS. In pass happy 2021, I’ll take a defensive end that gets friggin triple teamed over an explosive receiver.

This is an offense where David bell can leave and broc Thompson comes in and gets 200+. Whereas Purdue has always fought an uphill battle in the trenches … and opposing offenses can double a player like George. The only rare cases when this was not true that I can recall were when Ryan Kerrigan played with kawann short or Shaun Phillips played with Craig Terrill.

if kawann short played inside of George and opposing offenses tried to double him, they’d quickly be facing a nightmare in the middle and vice versa. When you have Branson deen, Lawrence Johnson, anthony watts and Lo Meal a coordinator can just yawn and say “yeah sure.. double and triple that guy.”

and therefore you never got to see how good George really is. You will when he goes well before the 49th pick in the draft …

Ok

No sh*t was started. It was good context added.
Oh no no I know you weren’t trying.. but I also wasn’t trying to run smack on stu or anyone else. I just feel like .. you give me a great receiver/defensive back OR a great LT or DL and I’m gonna take the latter all the time, because they affect the game more especially here. M

stu, Orton, rondale .. all great players ..

I get it. Not the same position though. When someone performs like moore in the slot, you’d like to think you can get much better than Sheffield and Burks in the slot.. because elite receivers of that size look and say “if rondale moore can be rondale moore at Purdue, I can do whatever I want there too.”

that said, so no one thinks I’m being a negative Nancy.. when you look at the outside receivers and defensive ends we’ve brought in, the conversion of those positions have been a win
Marcellus Moore and TJ Sheffield were excellent commits at the slot. Also rondale lined up outside a bunch too.

Rondale was a slot guy.

excellent? No. You should turn moore into a four star commit who comes to play … but again.. in most spots things have just gotten better and better so I really can’t complain overall

DE does seem like more of a conversion win than the slot Though

When you said “came in” I took that as “from day 1”. If that wasn’t your intended thought fair enough.

At best rondale had that one year where you could argue he was as impactful as anyone.. however .. I think In the modern era that shows up a lot more tangibly for offensive skill players. The NFL is about to tell everyone how good George is

Additionally.. like I said… Lawrence Johnson has been better, but I don’t think people realize how far below Kawann short Johnson and Deen are. If, like Kerrigan, George played with a player who made it very hard to even double him, let alone triple him, he might have had 20 sacks this year

He has jumped past Joe Strickland on 247 composite to the #27 DL and #217 overall and Strickland is #30 and #256 overall
