Next commit

My gut isn't telling me much more.
My gut is telling me it's time to eat. LOL
I hope we can start to fill in the 2018 Class soon, we have several Offers out there, Rumor? Has it that the PG who committed to Princeton might decommit and open his services. PU was in good shape with him before jumping to the Ivy League, we shall see.
Me thinks we need a PG, WING, CENTER, I'm curious what others think also?

I like what OB52 said. After these WUG games we'll know if we need a PG in the next class, or not.

I agree. Not sure a PG is needed. Don't we have a good chance at the younger Thompson? If NE turns out to be as good as advertised, taking a PG this year seems surpurflous. Of course, you never know what
might happen. Kids flunk out, get injured, or can't find their life because of drugs.

That's why there is more emphasis on somebody that is bigger and can play 1-3. Hunter, Embery, and Ahrens for example. All good enough to find minutes. Embery is my favorite but the more I read and see on Ahrens, the more I like him.

I don't think we just need a center. Specifically we need a rim protector. A scoring Center doesn't really fill a need. I wouldn't mind seeing a pass on a 5 for this class if we can lock up Jackson-Davis who said he would be looking to early commit. IU is hard after him, but they don't develop big men like Purdue. I think Painter should continue to do what he has been doing and target versatility with one "shooter" in each class.

Wing is the biggest need. THT seems to be by far the best target, and for whatever reason we haven't offered Henry. A bit thin after that all we did offer Jaxson Hayes who would be a big wing. Ahrens is also big enough to be a wing, even though he is often listed as a guard. There could be a later bloomer that Painter picks up like Wheeler as well. Curious to see, but I would really like to see 1 more sign before the season starts. I think WUG should be a nice recruiting tool, and maybe we can pull in THT or Embery who have both had their recruiting really blow up with major offers.

Isaih Thompson is only a junior this season. He is a 2019 player. Take him if he wants to commit no matter who is on the roster...he will be a top 50-75 guy by the time he is done with high school/AAU ball.

Really? I didn't realize he was that well regarded. Hope you're right because I feel like Purdue would have a good shot at him.

From what I have read, he has the potential to be quite a lot better than PJ and already has a few inches on him. Time will tell, but I'd sign him right now based on PJ as a Boiler.
He put up 41 pts at one of the Adidas Gauntlet events in South Carolina. So yeah, he can get buckets

a serious question. Many here suggested starting C Edwards at PG last year over PJ. many here have suggested the same thing this year or having a backcourt of Edwards and Eastern with PJ as the 6th man this year. if that happened what would our chances be of recruiting his younger brother? and do you believe Painter would continue to start PJ even if better alternatives were available this year? Would recruiting his brother be a factor on playing time this year?

I'm asking, would Painter possibly sacrifice this season and continue to play PJ even if Eastern proved he was significantly better just to put himself in a better position to recruit PJ's younger brother? or would Painter try to put his best line-up on the court knowing it would have future implications and consequences?

I'm not saying Eastern is better than PJ. I'm asking what would happen if he proved he is significantly better? Do you hold eastern back? and show loyalty to PJ? We had a similar problem in the 70's with Bruce Parkinson (the first one) . Loyalty won out over talent. the end result was not good.

I doubt PJs brother would hold it against Painter if PJ were to lose his starting job.
As a competitor, he knows what the deal is.

You think Painter would "sacrifice this season" to get a recruit who is not even ranked in the top 150? This team will have the most talent of any Purdue team in the foreseeable future. No, Painter will not sacrifice this season.

I didn't say that. I asked the question if. I'm the guy who has led the let's start Eastern at PG bandwagon. I'll also be the guy who if eastern proves he's significantly better will voice his concerns that painter would be placing loyalty above winning. being loyal to Bruce Parkinson coming back from his injury caused a lot of problems on the court and in the locker room.

Where does your devotion to Eastern come from? Do you have some inside source that is saying Eastern is dominating practice? No one on the premium board is suggesting there is any reason to believe PJ won't start, or even that the competition is even close. Are you basing all of your opinions off of highlight videos?

I think he is posing a what if scenario. Not that he thinks the situation exists.
I personally think it's a no brainer. Start the best player regardless of age or future recruiting considerations.
Also if the new kid is really strong, I would give him some time at other positions as well as backing up the point. He doesn't have to only play point guard.

He clearly said "I'm the guy who has led the let's start Eastern at PG bandwagon."

If Painter starts PJ, it's because he believes it will increase Purdue's chances for success on the floor this season. That is all.

A couple of thoughts: 1. If Isaih was angered if PJ lost his starting job to a better player, that would send a signal to me. 2. If Painter consciously chose to "sacrifice" even one game (I'm saying consciously play below his perception of our best) then that sends a signal. and 3. If Painter plays in any way based on choices that use possible future maybes, then that sends a signal. All those signals are totally negative

Remember that Isaih will be coming in as a freshman ... if he thinks Painter will play an older but lesser player over him, how would he then feel?

I'll repeat, in the past I've said I'd really like to see Eastern start at PG, and have a backcourt of Eastern and C Edwards. I even said that with Mathias and PJ coming off the bench. And rather wait another year, I'd like to see it NOW !

my feelings about Pj are totally different than my feelings towards Cline. I'm not a big fan of Cline. PJ is different. I like PJ. he's clutch and doesn't make many mistakes. he is short and sometimes the guy he's guarding shoots over him. But for the most part, I like PJ. I just like Eastern a lot more.

I believe Eastern is the type of guy who could and should start at PG as a freshman. Nobody argued against Swanigan starting as a freshman. I believe Eastern is as good of a PG as Swanigan was at PF.

The question is why and how? I've never seen Eastern play and I live in Illinois. I've seen some video highlights, but nobody ever has negative highlights. . Eastern has a good ranking, but he's not a projected one and done type player. So why do I like Eastern so much? I don't know why, I just do. maybe I'm like those NBA scouts who prefer the unknown over the known. Maybe it's like Swanigan that we won a long hard recruiting battle with MSU that I feel he is something special and should start now. and maybe he'll prove like C Edwards and show flashes of brilliance, but also freshman mistakes and a reason not to start.

What I want and others have agreed with is for Painter to put the best team out on the floor and not sacrifice that concept just for the sake of getting some 2019 recruit to sign. PJ's brother is probably better than PJ. And PJ has been a lot better for Purdue than what he was projected when he first signed. I remember when he signed, he was kind of the Sasha of his recruiting class - the extra, final recruit that was happy to get a scholarship offer. He has done so much more than what was expected of him. I really like PJ.

But I also really like Eastern. and I want Eastern to get a chance to show his talents. I've said this before. This is a good situation to have.

"The players" "collectively have a good feel for who is doing what needs done

Eastern will get his chance to show. It probably won't be as a starting PG but hey you never know.
My guess is he will play backup PG and some time on the wings as well.

I'm confident eastern will get a chance to shine. I'm just really high on him. and I admit, I have no evidence. but a 6'6 PG who can create his own shot, distribute the ball, play defense, and dribble the ball would be awesome.

And if he can do all those things against B1G competition, I assure you, he will get more than a fair share of PT. I will add "minimize turnovers" to your four and assure you, when he shows he can do those 5 things against B1G teams, you will get your wish.

The reason, and it was glairingly obvious, that Carsen didn't start at the end of the year was because his quick trigger could often lead Purdue down a slippery slope at the start of the game. The same could be said of starting a true freshman PG over PJ. I'd rather let a freshman view the game from the bench and allow the senior to settle the team in instead of potentially turning the ball over and creating easy shots in the early part of a game.

Point to these supposed examples of guys just shorting constantly over PJ that warrants it even being in the discussion...please. It isn't like guys are throwing down 12-15 points a game because PJ is too short. Your fustian simply comes from the fact he is short.

Been quite of late...Next to be a Boikermaker??....and Go!
At this point I have 0 idea.

If I had to venture a wild guess - I will say THT or Hayes. I feel like Hunter will sign after his high school season - no intel, just a hunch

I'm guessing Adam Trapp. This is a guess, because I have no idea who we are even close with at this point.

I think we have backed off big time on him. Believe he has battled some injury issues and not sure we want a traditional big

Well then I'm at a complete loss. Maybe you see it differently, but I don't see us close with anyone. THT seems unlikely with a Kansas offer. Ahrens looks like Michigan. Phinisee looks like IU. Embrey cut us from his list. I know we are still in it with Hunter.

I'm not too concerned because we never know what is going on in the background. It seems every season here recently CMP has been called in to question on his recruiting but yet we usually turn out better than fine.

Plus I imagine the staff is a little busy overseas at the moment.

If we can only pick one, I'll go with Eric Hunter. I have a friend who participates in the weekly chats on the Peegs site. He told me a week ago that the Scout guys say (or their sources say) that Purdue is in the best shape of the schools pursuing Hunter and the most likely winner in this recruitment.

That's interesting. I realize IU isn't in the running for him but feel like it comes down to us and Butler.
