New commit

Obvious that Brohm has found that with the success and media attention this season, he has access to better recruits that what he may have thought initially as a WR recruit backed out of his commitment and then Anderson hoped on this morning. What that tells me is the young man was told that there wouldn't be a spot for him going forward since Anderson had wanted to commit. Nature of the game but something that may continue to happen if Brohm is able to sneak a game against Iowa or NU and then beat IU.

in the Anderson thread on Oct. 19th, I stated maybe McCoy leaves and that gives us room for Anderson. Anderson should do well in this system, he has great hands and good hops.

I have been too busy to post much and just saw this. I like this commit. When he committed to Rutgers I stopped paying any attention to him. Solid pick up for us. Good job Coach Brohm.

We lost 2 WR's (McCoy & Holmes) and only gained 1 so we actually have another scholly to give out.

Hate to speculate too much on what was said to McCoy. There are ways to resolve these situations professionally and with mutual benefit to both sides. Knowing Anderson was on the verge of committing, the staff may have simply given McCoy a courtesy call and let him know that his projected role is becoming more clear now with class more filled out than in June, and if he has his heart set on playing wide receiver instead of being a special teamer he has their blessing to re-open his commitment.

Note they did not take Anderson's verbal until after McCoy decommited. That tells me there is a small over-sign number that the staff has in mind that they do not want to exceed. Attrition is normal in football, so I think this is a very reasonable approach.

As for McCoy, this type of thing occurs at all schools. My hope is that our actions provided him enough time to find interest from other schools!

Yes, Anderson is a fine "catch" !

6 more weeks until the early signing period. Not exactly a last minute thing like you see in the SEC. Until the staff pulls something like that, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they aren't hanging a kid out to dry. I'm guessing he lands at a decent MAC school.

the first 2 words of your reply reminds me of one of my favorite bands

don't know about that, he has interest from teams like E.Carol, Syracuse, Utah, NC St.

Looks like Toledo.

Not exactly. By my count, we still need attrition from the roster to fit the committed players.
I could see some attrition, there are some players who played last year and haven't seen the field or very little of it this year

I maybe crazy....but i see this class ballooning by late signing date as we have to many players that just cant provide quality minutes......

I keep remembering that RB from NJ that was in legal trouble and we kept his commitment all through his legal issues and even after he was suspended from playing. And he was subsequently cleared, And Hazell pulled the offer the weekend before the signing period because he needed the scholarship to give to the Tenn RB who ended up at Illinois ! Hazell killed that boy's chances of being recruited by a big power school! If he wanted to drop him the appropriate time would have been when he was initially charged, not after he was cleared. He ended up at Rhode Island(?) that left a sour taste in my mouth of Hazell dropping all loyalty in his pursuit of trying to land a better player.

Tenn. RB was Vaughn, what helped there was Ill. signed a H.S. teamate of his to seal the deal.

Nothing stopped him from being recruited by other schools. If he was good enough, they would have made room.

The problem he faced was he held several power 5 offers and committed rather early to Purdue! And once he did so, he stopped contacting other schools and they stopped recruiting him. And when Hazell dropped him, he had essentially 3 days to open his recruiting and the team who previously made offers were already full! I believe Syracuse was one of those schools that said sorry!

Yeah Rob Ennis punched a girl in the nose. That's what killed his chances of signing at a power 5 school. I'm pretty sure Hazell let the legal process play out, then let him go.

Yeah, he had a Syracuse offer as his other p5 offer.

If he was good enough to play, they would have made room

As for Anderson, he is now Purdue's highest rated football commitment. Our team ranking is now 47 it dropped from 40. The rankings from 40-49 is pretty tight.

Maybe because of his issues, he got blackballed much like kapernick. You can't tell me kapernick isn't good enough to get a call from a power 5 pro team in Wisconsin!

Sounds like the recruit has himself to blame then

Rob Ennis didn't even pan out at Rhode Island. He is now at Widener College. Here is one I won't blame Hazell for.

He isn't even getting carries in D3.

No doubt the staff does not burn bridges. They seem very professional and committed to doing things "the Purdue way". Looking forward to some attrition so we can pick up a few DT's

I wouldn't put much faith in the rankings. I would put the faith in this coaching staff to identify the players that fit their system just like Coach Tiller did. He found two and three star wide receiver's in defense of ends and taught them how to play at any level.

While I hope CJB can do that as well, it is much easier to do with more talented players. There is a reason Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson have ruled college football the last however many years and it isn't by developing 2* kids.

I agree with you, but I also will correct you. Right now it's about developing 2 and 3* players. That's our reality right now. Once we start winning with those guys the reality will grow and grow. For now we will do just fine with what we have they will develop them
