New commit

I agree with you, but I also will correct you. Right now it's about developing 2 and 3* players. That's our reality right now. Once we start winning with those guys the reality will grow and grow. For now we will do just fine with what we have they will develop them

That is the truth. From what we have to look at so far I would say he does a good job of that. Let's hope he can do as well as Tiller and staff but with more talented players!

As for developing players 2-3 star players, I would like to see CJB offer Tyler Potts out of Ohio. Currently a Ball state commit. Just played in a sectional game and locked down L'Chrisitan Smith, 6'6 OSU athlete commit. That's got to count for something. Purdue is likely focusing on Jordan Rucker, the DB out of Texas that had a much higher ranking. Also, Purdue was in the top 10 of Jarius Brents, but he is a top 250 player so that would seem like a long shot at this point. Purdue doesn't really have a good CB prospect. Everything I have read shows Ball as more like a safety and a hard hitting specialist, not a lockdown corner. I don't know much about Perkins, but he isn't ranked very high. Perkins does have some height at 6'2 which could make him a decent press corner.

I am also very interest in cory Trice. He seems vastly underrated. Listed at 6'2 but in his video is he 4-5 inches taller than everybody else and runs like a gazelle. He will definitely need to get stronger, but he has the potential to be something special if he can learn to be a physical DB.

I felt that the '17 class has about 5-7 players that should contribute. I think the '18 class has about 5 difference makers and is loaded with potential contributors. If he can develop what he has got, more coaches and players will take notice. Karliftas committing early isninredibly helpful. Kiser is a very good player and it seems to be between Purdue and Iowa for him. It just shows people are willing to buy in and this '18 class will likely end up being the best incoming class since when Hope first took over. Lots of potential.

There is a kid down here playing for Oakleaf. Keshawn King. He is going to blow up and I wish the Brohm brigade would reach out to him.
His offer list would indicate that he is beginning to get noticed. It isn't long but includes the likes of Miami and OSU.

Would love to see us get Brents, but there has been nothing out on him in quite a while. Hope he is still considering us.

That's good analysis. I don't know much about the 2018 class, but what do you think about Karlaftis commitment and what it will mean for players that are seriously considering Purdue? Will it convince them that we are certainly on the upswing because such a high-profile recruit chose Purdue early?

It's a little late in the '18 game to make a huge difference, but it should help with defensive prospects. Playing opposite of a player like him means less double teams on the other side in the middle. It also makes things easier for DBs because a pass rush means less time on the island.

Everybody knows CJB for his offense, but Purdue has been very good on defense this year and signed some very talented players. Still looking to add a linebacker, DE, DB and possibly a RB (WR if Moore signs up). Arak seems likely to join at DE and he is going to be a beast. Arak should love the prospect of playing opposite of somebody like Karliftas and Purdue has some nice DT prospects as well. DB is still up in the air, but there are still some talented options available (which I listed although Brents is a pipe dream and not really all that likely).

Karliftas will benefit Purdue most with '19 Indiana prospects. Bell, Britt, Kirtz, and James. Iowa has had a lot of success in Indiana, and that will have to stop. Iowa has a pipeline with Warren and getting Bell would help that more than anything. Karliftas has already actively been recruiting Bell, but we are going to need to show massive improvement on offense to land somebody like Bell.

I actually liked what I have seen out of Tim Cason the last two weeks. I think he has done some good things and given more time to develop, he could be a very good CB for Purdue.

I agree. Cason was much much improved over Hardy, but Cason will be a senior next year. We have Mackey who was put on redshirt, so I imagine any '18 CB we bring in will also get a red shirt season. Cason and Mackey would be seevicible, but I imagine CJB tries to find a grad transfer or JUCO CB. Purdue really needs a CB with major upside. I really hope CJB at least looks at Potts and if he doesn't see the potential then move on.
