They went after him the whole second half with lots of success. Losing Hunte cost us the game. Backup couldn’t cover. Couldn’t get off blocks. And was in bad position on the edge many times.

Yes they did. People forget these opponents have really smart coaches too. Our secondary has literally 3 decent players when healthy. Very difficult to coach around that, especially down one. We saw that without Theineman in the Michigan game.
So we went zone on the last drive for this very reason. They were simply abusing 1 on 1 matchups in our secondary. Going zone and forcing the Lee to fit it in tight windows was probably the right move. Unfortunately he stepped up and made play after play.

Agreed. Hardy struggled greatly in the place of Hunte. He gave up that first touchdown to the TE by giving him the inside release down the sideline. That's the number one NO NO for a corner. If Hunte plays second half, then we are a completely different defense and the outcome is probably different as well. Players make a difference.

when did Hunte get hurt and how bad? saw Bentley's but he came back.

GBI said he didn't come back after halftime, so it must have been sometime in the first half. Said it was a hip flexor. I hope he'll be back this week. He's the best player in the secondary.

Devastating would be if we were worth a poo or if it was against a rival. This was a frustrating loss and as the late Dennis Green taught us, it showed us Purdue is who we thought they were.
True, but we have to start winning these types of games if we ever want to be worth a poo. Just felt like tonight was the game where we lost our chance at getting to a bowl game and adding a little excitement around this team come December. Purdue football continues to break your heart...they reel you in making you think they are on the verge of taking a step forward and then ..oh no... nevermind we are going to fold in the fourth quarter and lose. Sorry, maybe next year. I do see improvement, but also see some disturbing decisions that I hope don't become a trend. At least there is some optimism for this team into late October that is a lot better than recent years. We better beat Illinois next week or this season is officially over. There would be no excuse for losing to Illinois. Lose to Illinois and we would almost be back to square one.

Hunte was injured on the big play to the TE down the right sideline going into the north end zone. The QB had his face mask grabbed too. Hunte came up limping. But finished the half out. Didn’t return for the second half.
