West Virginia and Iowa State are playing right now on ESPN2. It's another chance to scout the Mountaineers, in case Purdue matches up with them in the NCAA's. You know it's March in college hoops because there are a lot more games than usual on a Friday night:

Unless Purdue runs in to a team that has a necessity to press to win (ie: it is built in to their DNA to be successful), Purdue is likely not going to see a press this season. However, if they face a team like WVU or VCU, those teams need to press to be successful. Watching VCU last night, they simply try to out-athlete teams on the defensive end and then let that athleticism take over on the offensive end. They definitely aren't as talented as they have been in the past when Shaka Smart was there but still good enough to make a run to the Sweet 16 after watching them play Dayton. Those are two teams I would like to avoid at all costs in the tourney.

I agree that he is and will be a calming influence on the team. Instead of playing nervous or tight, he's one of the guys that can help keep them loose and light-hearted.

March is the time that Spike was brought in for...and I'm excited to see him potentially play some more. Hard to argue that he hasnt played better the last few games by hitting some open shots.
