They rely heavily on Valentine.

Here's hoping Ray lives in his pocket when they come to town.

He's playing out of his mind. No way he can carry that load all season. Whatever happened to Eron Harris? Haven't heard much about him thus far.

Don't worry about MSU. They will be tough when we play them.

Name a prior NPOTY candidate whose team didn't rely on him. With a player that good, I think this reliance is to be expected. Even if he's not scoring though, 9.5 assists and 9.5 rebounds a game...the guy is affecting the game in just so many ways. He's a guard version of Draymond Green.

He and Ben Simmons are just on a different level than everyone else in college basketball thus far.

Wow, you must've been creeping on sites waiting for a topic about MSU. He's been great, but when the ball is in your hands 90% of the time the stats aren't shocking. Don't get me wrong, he's been great so far, but no way he keeps up at this rate.

Also, doesn't it make you a bit nervous that your team relies so much on one player? Purdue has the reigning BTDPOY and that's not even including Hammons. All it takes is one defensively competent team to squash that.

Valentine has had several games where he scored 10-12 points, MSU still won. The only game thus far that he actually took a lot of shots was against Kansas.
Plenty of firepower on that team.
They have played 13 or 14 guys in every game, and as noted, still haven't gotten what they ultimately will out of Eron Harris, and Schilling is still yet to play( likely starter who averaged 13+ a game overseas and in the exhibitions)
Tum Tum is second on the team in minutes at 23 a game

Can't wait for Valentine to run into a good defensive team. He was doing a lot of trash talking against Boise. MSU caught a good break with Arizona getting beat.
I don't know about that.
Providence plays pretty damn good defense.

No, because I think MSU is even better when they don't have to rely on Valentine to score. When he just focuses on facilitating, which has already happened a few times this year. Squash Valentine and they still have Forbes, Costello, Bess, Davis and Harris. And Clark is just now getting back into the rotation and Schilling should be back soon. MSU is seriously deep. Denzel is just a star who can wear multiple hats equally well.

Don't let the early season mis-ranking deceive you.

Providence > Arizona

Particularly right now in the season.

All I want to know is how many felonies have been covered up by Izzo/MSU this year.

TC, I like how you live in the present and really focus on what really matters. Your intellectual curiosity is a sight to behold. You're an ass.et to this board.

Yea why worry about petty things like rape when there is basketball to talk about!!

Rape ALLEGATION your honor. Please value and understand the difference. An allegation that: 1) occurred over 5 years ago and 2) that never even made it past the prosecutor's office investigation for lack of a credible story.

But don't let that stop you from being the upstanding and morally grounded "guilty until proven innocent" Internet judge & jury that you are.

I mean Purdue and MSU are top 10 caliber teams this year. Who would possibly want to talk about basketball when Purdue fans have much more important bones to pick and half decade old points to prove.

An allegation that one of the suspects admitted to when questioned. Why did that stop the prosecution?? THAT is the question.

Would it really matter to you if they were more than allegations? For example, if they admitted it? Since you brought it up, where is your own moral grounding? Looking the other way?

MSU is extremely over-rated this year. I know Valentine is putting up huge numbers, but they squeaked by a over-rated Kansas team without their most talented player. Beat a bad BC team and bad Boise State team. Not sure where all the hype is coming from. I think MSU is going to struggle mightily in conference play compared to what we're seeing right now in OOC play.

Sorry that some of folks went down that path. I guess they get tired of lectures form the MSU Message Board police about exactly how we must think about MSU over here. That is especially after all the defamation churned out over on your board about paying handlers and setting up special chefs, dirty recruiting and such. ...but, hey, that's all in the past. We understand.

Yes, let's keep this about basketball. I suspect that MSU and Purdue will be playing for the championship. I don't think Maryland or IU will be what we first thought they were.

Providence should be a good test for Michigan State. Valentine is one of those total team guys....seems to give them whatever they need on a given night. They are going to be a tough out all year IMO, and the game in Mackey should be a really good battle.....would love to be there.

Are you that dumb, or are you joking?
That Kansas win is probably the best win any team has this year. That was without two starters ( Clark and Schilling) even suited up. Maybe Kentucky over Duke the other. The Kansas team that just blew out the field in Maui.
Boise is a very, very solid team. Drmic the best player, has been a bit hobbled by a knee. They are a very good bet to win the Mountain West. Lost on Arizona's home court by 12, and beat a very good Cal Irvine team. I don't expect you to have the knowledge to remember the Irvine team from the tourney last year. They returned pretty much everybody. Two good 7 footers, should have beat Louisville.
Providence tonight is no joke either. Dunn is one of the top 3-4 players in the country.
The Boilers have an excellent squad this year. Why make your fan base look stupid by making ignorant comments like you did. And that's exactly what they were.

Are you really that insecure? You care what a single fan from another school says about your team on their own message board that you have to rush over here and try to change their opinion?

You make the MSU fanbase look very childish. You also make it look like you care so much about what Purdue fans think that it really bothers you when you don't think we love you. Weird.

" rush over here"? I post on most B1G boards. I notice this year I have posted a grand total of 48 times. Not exactly living here, I don't think. Most all fans are pretty intelligent. Only here, uniquely, do you run into mostly dumb ones. I enjoy pointing it out. I don't know if it's futility with generally being mediocre, or what, that causes the negativity toward other teams. Go to the MSU rivals site, and you won't find anything but fans happy that Purdue and Maryland have thankfully showed up in the non conference. Nobody else has.

And yet, you came rushing back here to respond. lol.

So you post your insecurity "on most B1G boards." We could have guessed that. Fans who never attended the school they "represent" tend to go to other boards and try to talk trash, but only end up making the whole fanbase look bad.

I'm not insecure about anything. Just sitting in a hotel room out in NY reading fan forums and news sites before our game tonight,, and before business related work tomorrow.
As I said earlier, I enjoy busting the chops of ignorant posters toward my school. This place seems to be theB1G epicenter of such ignorance.
I popped in and read this MSU related thread couple times over the last several days. No reason to add anything to it until the ignorant post from a little bit ago.
I made my point. Good evening to all

I hope MSU keeps winning in the non-conference portion of their schedule. As much as the Big Ten has struggled this season, it would be nice if Purdue, MSU, and Maryland could go into conference play with very strong resumes.

I hear a lot of talk about Providence being strong, but they are only ranked 42 and 40, respectively, on KenPom and Sagarin. I have to think that MSU won't have too much trouble with them.

In a season where it doesn't seem like there are many, if any, great teams, both MSU and Purdue have to feel good about their chances to have a season to remember.

I agree with this.

But Providence looked really tough against Arizona.

That's just one game. But it showed they had the ability.

Here's hoping for a Spartan win.

First of all, thank you for actually talking basketball. This MSU team is deeper, taller, stronger, has more shooters, more skilled, and more athletic than last year's Final Four team. A MSU team hasn't looked this good this early in the season, in years.

That's a pretty good starting point.

I think their upside is pretty high. Only time will tell who's right and who's wrong. I'm definitely looking forward to finding out.

I don't think a lot of people realized how good you guys could be after losing Trice and the head case.

I picked you to win the B1G and haven't seen anything yet to change my mind.

Having said that.

This Purdue team, so far seems to be the type of team that can give you a run for your money.

We are big and strong as well. We are deep. We have several guys who can shoot from deep to keep defenses honest. Plus this team so far has shown it doesn't get rattled or sped up and taken out of it's game.

Most importantly I like our experience and what seems to be a team mindset of win as a team and not worry about stats.

I do want to see what happens when Valentine is taken out of his game. I think we have the defense to do that.

But I want to see us get punched in the nose and see how the team reacts.

But only time will tell.

See you in February.

I'm just gonna reiterate my original point.

I hope Ray lives in Valentine's pocket.

The rest of our guys are better.

Valentine and Harris will have to play out of their minds because offensive rebounds will be few and far between for MSU and Davis won't ever get good positioning on any of Haas, Hammons, or Swanigan. He's got nice, raw talent but they're much more polished. And this is completely excluding Vince Edwards, who is probably the most overlooked player on the B1G, and maybe the nation.

If any fan base in the Big Ten is childish, it's Purdue. Your board still talks about Dawson and Harris years later, and how we cheated to get them when reality is they wanted to play for an elite program and elite coach and not a school that has a good team every 3 or 4 years like Purdue.

Actually, we don't talk about either of those guys much at all. The first mention of dirty recruiting for either of these guys, and Swanigan too came directly from the MSU boards. Look there for your children.

I didn't know Valentine raped someone. While I don't doubt that Izzo and MSU swept it under the rug (nothing to see here...).
Weren't there some other allegations of payments made to MSU players as well as drug use?

MSU is becoming the Memphis of the Big 10.
