MSU

Valentine and Harris will have to play out of their minds because offensive rebounds will be few and far between for MSU and Davis won't ever get good positioning on any of Haas, Hammons, or Swanigan. He's got nice, raw talent but they're much more polished. And this is completely excluding Vince Edwards, who is probably the most overlooked player on the B1G, and maybe the nation.

The fact is, Costello by himself outplayed both your bigs last year. That was with no Dawson available( got the concussion) go back and look. And had 4 blocked shots.
MSU rebounding is in its DNA. They will be fine. Leading the nation currently in rebounding margin. Valentine is the best wing rebounder in the nation.
All this and Schilling hadn't played yet.
Purdue has a great team this year, and lots of size.

If any fan base in the Big Ten is childish, it's Purdue. Your board still talks about Dawson and Harris years later, and how we cheated to get them when reality is they wanted to play for an elite program and elite coach and not a school that has a good team every 3 or 4 years like Purdue.

MSU Basketball....making a bigger deal out of finishing 2nd-4th than anyone...ever.

I didn't know Valentine raped someone. While I don't doubt that Izzo and MSU swept it under the rug (nothing to see here...).
Weren't there some other allegations of payments made to MSU players as well as drug use?

MSU is becoming the Memphis of the Big 10.

If it wasn't so sad and made up, you guys would be hilarious.

Good luck to your team this season.

It would make sense that a Purdue fan wouldn't understand the achievement that is a Final Four. What has it been? Over 35 years?

Thirty...five...years.

I don't know. I don't usually celebrate something that I end up losing.

2009 called.

They want their story back.

Hey I heard Mateen stole a 40 ounce beer from a 7-Eleven too. Who cares if it was in 1998. Boiler fans need to add this to their talking points when faced with the uphill battle that is talking actual basketball with MSU fans.

Yea I would want to focus solely on basketball too if I were a MSU fan. When you start looking at other stuff, it raises some questions about what actually goes on up there. Similar to how Notre Dame handles things.

BTW, that link is to a story from September 2015.

You sit on a throne of lies TC. We don't focus solely on basketball.

We focus quite a bit on football too. So much so that our #3 ranked basketball team is currently residing firmly on the back burner of MSU athletics. But I'm sure you wouldn't care if Purdue made the football (final four team) playoff either.

I'm sorry. Football is also on your list of things that's more important than the safety of MSU co-eds. And you brought this up as a point defending MSU?

This is a basketball board. There are a lot of fans who don't care about football at all. Clean up your programs because very few are investigated by the fed for the amount of crime covered up. And that Prosecutor has been in MSU's pocket since he got the job.

Are you that dumb, or are you joking?
That Kansas win is probably the best win any team has this year. That was without two starters ( Clark and Schilling) even suited up. Maybe Kentucky over Duke the other. The Kansas team that just blew out the field in Maui.
Boise is a very, very solid team. Drmic the best player, has been a bit hobbled by a knee. They are a very good bet to win the Mountain West. Lost on Arizona's home court by 12, and beat a very good Cal Irvine team. I don't expect you to have the knowledge to remember the Irvine team from the tourney last year. They returned pretty much everybody. Two good 7 footers, should have beat Louisville.
Providence tonight is no joke either. Dunn is one of the top 3-4 players in the country.
The Boilers have an excellent squad this year. Why make your fan base look stupid by making ignorant comments like you did. And that's exactly what they were.

Boise State is 3-4, with no good wins, and a bad lost to Montana. You can call UC Irvine the team of all teams all you want, it doesn't mean they're good. They have 2 enormous stiffs, and that's about it. Not sure about them being a lock to win the Mountain West, as they currently sit at the VERY bottom of that conference. UNLV and Fresno State are looking, and predicted to be better, along with about half of that conference.

BC is 3-3, no quality wins (but by your logic, we'll call Harvard the next Wichita State), and a very bad loss to Santa Clara and a somewhat of a bad loss for a power 5 team to UC Irvine. Another powerhouse team at the bottom of their division that just had a bad game against MSU. A safe bet to win the ACC, eh?

Kansas is 4-1, a very good team, top 10 easy, BUT... It took one hell of a comeback (credit to MSU) by MSU to beat a depleted Kansas team with their top player, forward, and a preseason lottery pick in the NBA. Again, no excuses for Kansas, you play with the hand dealt. But that Kansas team isn't the same Kansas team as now.

Providence is 6-1, a good win over Zona, and a pretty good win over Illinois. Great win for MSU. For the title as well, so a lot of pressure that these kids at MSU handled well. They don't have a top 3-4 player in the country, as you suggested. That's just exaggeration on your part to make your argument look good. Nice try, but no cigar.

Look, simply put, I never said MSU is a bad team. Never even said they're not a good team. I just think they're over-rated at the #3 spot. I think they're a top 10 team, but with their current resume stacked up against the rest of the NCAA, they are deserving of the #3 spot. I just don't see a single strength they have over Purdue at any position that can determine the game. On the other hand, I think Purdue has a better 5,4. 3 and 2 is a push, and 1 might be a slight edge to MSU just because it's still unknown a little for us. I am far from a homer, but again, maybe I based my last post from the matchup Purdue has over MSU compared to what I should have based it on, which is current resume in which you can't argue MSU's.

Heller, you don't know nearly as much as you delude yourself to believe. One thing you're spot on though, if I was a Purdue football fan, I wouldn't care about football either.

Good luck with the basketball season. I actually like this Purdue team and think they have great potential. I can't wait till our two teams play.

You don't think Valentine bodes a distinct advantage over his Purdue counterpart? A guy who's practically averaging a triple double, with 20 points a game, almost a 5 to 1 assist to turnover ratio and a high volume 42% shooting from three?

Who is this mystery Boilermaker who compares to that?

Several because Purdue doesn't need one specific player to play well. One night it's Haas, one night it's Edwards, or, Hammons, or Davis, or Mathias, or Stephens, or Thompson, or Hill or Swanigan. Sucks to have this much depth where anyone of 10 guys can get going and bury the other team. You shut down Valentine, MSU will struggle.

lol. Apparently they wanted to play for a school where the fans never attended college. And where these same uneducated fans complain about a recruit being "dirty", then rejoice when their coach does what it takes to get said dirty recruit.

Who is this mystery Boilermaker? How about Vince Edwards? You really think Valentine is going to pull off a triple-double with Edwards and Davis on him? Better question, you really think that while Valentine puts up 20-10-10, that Edwards is going to put up a goose-egg? Or Davis?

I know that Valentine is putting up huge numbers, but he has yet to play the reigning BT-DPOY. Or a NBA prospect in Edwards. Or a team like Purdue that lives off defense and shutting kids down. Ask Steph Curry how his experience was. He's a decent-good player, right? Maybe not as good as Valentine from the sound of things from you two green fools.

Lmao. MSU has way more depth than Purdue does. We can go a legit 12-13 deep.

They have. And guess what? I don't care because we didn't win it.

Yikes. So if Purdue made the Final 4 or National Title game this year, but didn't win it all, that wouldn't be any different to you than losing in the first round or not even making the tournament?

I guess I can understand that theory. Purdue has never even made a Final 4 since I've been alive, and MSU has been to 7. I'm sure it's hard for the majority of fans in your fan base to even remember what it's like.

Huh? Where the fans never attended college? I attended and graduated from MSU bud.

Lots of good smack talk in this thread. Very little basketball. It's all fun until some one gets hurt. Wait.... I think that was not what meant.

Look, plenty of us Purdue fans have strong respect for the MSU program. MSU is consistent and solid every year. I hope Purdue is on track for the same kind of program. Good luck to you guys. I want to see us meet as two unbeaten teams. That would be very cool. Until then, toddle on.

I have another question: does anyone in here think that Caleb Swanigan is better than Deyonta Davis?

I was shocked when I saw Big Swan was shooting UNDER 40% from the field?! What the hell is he doing down there? Jacking up threes? I greatly respect the kid but he made the right decision to decommit. Painter needs to get him under control. A body that big shouldn't be on the perimeter tossing up low percentage shots.

Only problem with all that is that Purdue has made a Final Four in my lifetime and it wasn't a big deal at all.

Like I said before: MSU basketball .. . . . making a bigger deal of 2nd through 4th place than anyone . . . . ever.

I can't wait until MSU and Purdue match up on 2/9. I am picking MSU to prevail when the two teams meet.

Purdue has a top 15-20 team, but MSU is clearly on another tier this season. MSU is a top 5 team and should be ranked as such for many reasons.

MSU has its deepest team in years, one of the top 5 coaches, superior rebounding, 3 point snipers, shot blocking and a POY candidate who can carry his team to a national title.

Purdue is good, but MSU has the potential to be great! The one concern I have about Purdue is the fact that they don't have a player who they can say unequivocally can deliver the goods in crunch time in the NCAA tournament. MSU has that player in Valentine and the cream of the crop typically rises to the top on the biggest stage in March.

Like he did against Virginia last year?
