I have consistently called for him to get more, not less playing time. But to say there are no better players in the portal is false. OK, so you're simply against the portal. Nothing wrong with that, you certainly have a right to hate the portal. I'm not a fan of the whole process either.

However, and it's a big however, it is here to stay. As long as it is, it is a tool that every coach will use. Yes, even CMP has and will continue to use it. The key is to use it wisely and get the right guys for your program at the right time. I trust CMP to do that.

That's an interesting comparison, and I think applicable to what Cameron Heide's role could be if he reaches his potential. However, Cam Spencer was a starter and way more productive at Rutgers than CH is right now......13+ points a game and 40%+ consistently from deep, including a game-winner against #1-ranked Purdue in Mackey Arena.

Love Heide's potential and his fit for the team, and he actually has more athleticism in certain areas than Spencer. No way I would give up on him, and I'm fairly confident he hasn't nor has Painter. But, that aside, he'd probably freely admit he's not producing the way they envision......just gotta keep the belief and eventually find it - it's there. We hear it over and over, there's also other ways to impact the game than scoring when you get the occasional opportunity.....saw some glimpses yesterday. Painter also has said on numerous occasions, he knows how difficult it is when you get limited opportunities and don't get a chance to have a lot of minutes to get in rhythm.....he said it before both games this past week.

Fletch is more consistent this year.....agree that he still has his moments where he gets off track on either end. I would expect he's even that much more consistent next season. He's another leader - does it a little less instinctively and more from a technical aspect with the coaches....also, we sometimes forget how much the opposing team shades to him - there's value in just that when he's on the floor.

Fair points and I think this off-season for Cam is to work on handling the ball and creating off the dribble. We need players who can create and he and Colvin can’t. I think the past couple of games you’ve seen Smith trying his hardest to get those two open looks to get their confidence back. Perhaps too the detriment of the rest of the team because he needs to score first.

I think Harris has regained his confidence but he and Cox need to hunt for their own shots too. What I don’t get is how we start the game getting action for Cox then just stop.

Harris and cox are playing different roles than Heide and Myles did last year. Last year, it was all about Zach and who complemented him the most. Players didn’t have to do as much. I think if Harris and cox were here last year they would not have developed as quickly as they have now

I disagree with this. Paint would have seen him DESTROYING all our individual defenders all summer, and IMO quickly moved him up to no lower than 3rd option.

That's a broad brush you just painted Myles with. As I've stated, I want Myles to be all that and more, but so far it hasn't happened. Myles played weak competition all during HS and AAU, and it shows today. The portal will be loaded with lots of great players.

What I wrote on the other site, but aligning somewhat here as well...

Cam drove twice and it opened up a pass to Trey under the basket for four points. Myles drove once and missed a good shot. I cannot recall either having problems attacking the lane. I can recall Myles struggling in passing on the perimeter when he knows where the ball is suppose to be and passes to a well defended teammate. That is not pretty and Brandon Neuman like. The arc at the farthest point is 22 ft from the rim and the lane is 6 feet wide in each direction from the rim and makes the largest real estate to get to the lane 16 feet. Obviously it is very much closer when not on the baseline and probably why Matt has shooters in the corners allowing for longer closeouts. The top of the key to FT line is roughly 20'9"-15' or less than 6 feet and the rest of the arc to the lane is between 6 and 16 feet, but without math a guess at 13'/14' many times

What is being discussed to get into the lane 2 dribbles most of the time and 3 dribbles sometimes. Any player on a scholly should be able to dribble 2 to 3 dribbles. If not, that is sad and immediately needs addressed and practiced. With token D I think high school players should be able to go from an elbow to a layup in one dribble for 15 feet which wouldn't happen with good D, but it does take a good first step although 2 dribbles is very achievable.

Without that, both players are handicapped in a hard closeout...particularly if the clock is winding down and that happens a lot. When either attacks the lane (not talking about rim, although some dunks are there to have) it forces the D to react which opens the door to rotations by the other team and scoring opportunities for Myes/Cam and the other players. This is not to say that either player gets the ball and attacks the basket, because they don't handle the ball like Braden, Fletcher, CJ and Gicarri, but there are a few times every game that they should. I don't think they are as comfortable doing such, because they haven't tried enough to become competent, but you are left with times they should attack the basket and like anything else...success brings confidence. Cam has a slow release and a hard closeout pretty much eliminates him scoring and eats clock reducing the opportunities for other players. Myles can shoot when somewhat defended, but hard closeouts result in a similar fashion for him. Purdue has two players that would help a lot if they scored more and as a result required being defended other than on a catch and shoot in the corner...at least a couple of times each a drive is open. Not doing so definitely reduces their and the team's offensive potential.

Assuming that I have your quote above correct, you did by definition say it as a statement of fact. Adding 'probably' doesn't negate that. If you meant that it's possible that transferring is best for Colvin, that's a different story.

We're going to start 4 guards and a 4 next year from day 1? Jacobson was starting this year when he got hurt. I'd hate to see rebounding numbers with that lineup.

I think a big difference between this team and recent years is rebounding. I really think that’s our Achilles’ heel. If there is one this year. We have no 10+ RPG monsters like we’ve been used to, and I’m not only referring to Edey.

You can’t not have TKR start, he’s gotten too good. But he needs a monster partner in the front court to gobble up rebounds. The committee isn’t getting it done at our usual level.

Right now, we are averaging 33 rebounds per game, with all the easy games on our schedule behind us.

Most seasons, we have averaged in the upper 30s or 40. You have to go all the way back to 2011/2012 to find a Purdue team that only averaged 33 rebounds per game as we are this season.
