Minnesota press a cause for concern tomorrow?

I haven't watched much of them this season. I assume we'll see them press us early and often. The better we defend and rebound, the less we'll have to worry about it.

Personally, I think we'll be better equipped to handle their press with the lineup we'll have to go with tomorrow. I'm assuming Mathias will start and Vince will play the 4 with Davis at the 3. Looking for Mathias to bounce back strong after the Iowa game.

It shouldn't be. I know this is still a conference game, on the road, but I really don't care. Purdue cannot, and will not, lose this game.

If, for some reason, they don't, there are serious, serious issues.

So you're not concerned that their press could give us problems? Not saying we can't/won't win in spite of it. But have you watched us against Iowa's pressure this month?

Nope. Iowa's press last game didn't destroy Purdue like it did the first game. I think Purdue has improved at breaking a press (as they should), and Iowa is a much, much better team than Minny.

I'm not sure I've seen Minny press much this year.
I've inmy seen a few games of theirs and didn't notice it.
The guys that hurt us last year are gone and as was stated above. The press didn't really hurt us much at Iowa. I think maybe two travel calls on Hill and one was questionable.

We may not attack it when we break it like I would like to see. But we have been breaking it much better here lately.

It looked like to me that Iowa's press still gave us issues. Aside from the turnovers, thought we made some poor choices on attacking it and ended up taking bad/hurried shots on a few occasions. I don't know Minnesota's players this year because I haven't watched them much but I'd be trying to press us if I were them.

Agree... I think the inability to handle a press well are just a tad exaggerated and have almost taken on a life of their own. It's the same drum that free throw shooting was two years ago. It's not like Purdue is starting 2 little old ladies in the backcourt who keep getting the ball stolen from them before the get to mid-court. The greatest percentage of the turnovers have come in the half-court offense.

If there's concern against this dreadful Minnesota team, I'd say it's more about the continued absence of Stephens and the possible absence of Swanigan that Painter mentioned.

I'm actually excited to see us without Swanigan. Should improve our defense and help with the halfcourt turnovers.

I think Biggie missing this game may not be a big deal. Purdue has other players that will step up. Vince should have a nice day at the 4.

Plus, there's always Jacquil Taylor. He only needs 14 minutes to get a double-double, you know.;)

I'd also be interested in seeing what a game without Swanigan would look like. Not sure the Barn would be my first choice for such an experiment. But if he can't go it wil be interesting to see what Painter does.
