Another change in the starting lineup, CKG takes out the best of the transfers for Swanson but keeps starting Collier, who so far over half way through the first quarter is once again a complete non-entity on offense and playing matador defense. Swanson, Jones and Puryear off the bench are our only scorers so far.

First game I have watched in a while, its easy to see why Collier doesn't get shots against a decent team. She just stands in one spot, with a defender 3 feet from her and holds out her hands like she thinks she is open. I really wish she was getting coaching as we have no idea if with a competent coach she might be able to play at this level.

36-34 Minnesota at the half. Last play shows why I am so frustrated with Bass, sophomore Grochowlski gets the ball at the ft line and dribbles past Bass to the rim completely unguarded and uncontested as Bass let her past and then just trailed to the rim hoping for a miss.

Swanson leads Purdue with 12 points, going 3-5 from the field and 4-4 from the line. Jones has 10, Puryear 6, Lombard 4 and Layden 2. McCarthy and Collier both missed their only shot and Bass has not shot.

Hart is 8 of 9 from the field for 16 points to lead all scorers. She had been 8-8. Our bigs are letting her get to her spot virtually uncontested then trying to defend her, she is too big and too good for that. But at least they are not in foul trouble, Puryear with 1 and McCarthy with 0. Grochowlski has 12 and Heyer with 4 for UMinn. Battle only has 2 points and as many fouls. If she gets hot in the second half, this could become a blowout.

Its pathetic when the camera pans the stands, I don't think we have 1,000 butts in the seats, the place sounds like a morgue during the game.

Amiyah Reynolds is dressed and went through warmups to start the second half. Don't know if that means she could play, but she moved well on the warmups.

Bass drives from the ft line down the right side and shoots the ball into the side of the backboard from 4 feet from the rim. She is such an unskilled player for a senior its pathetic.

As UMinn pulls away we have Collier, Lombard, Bass, Jones and Swanson on the floor. UMinn's offense looks like its playing against cardboard cutouts except for Puryear.

53- 46 Minnesota up at the end of 3 quarters. Puryear having a good game, with 12 points so far. Swanson still leading with 14 but she is now 4-9 from the field with a couple of bad misses having to chuck it up to beat the shot clock. Jones with 12, Lombard 4, Layden and McCarthy with 2 each. Lana missed her only FT very badly.

Annndddd Swanson shoots it into the side of the backboard off a called catch and shoot play from the out of bounds.

Swanson probably ejected now.
Ended up double techs, and I don't mind Swanson being feisty, too many on our team are so utterly passive and emotionless...... I am with you, this season cannot end soon enough and good riddance to these 4 transfers plus Harper. Now we just wait to see who transfers out......... :(

Final Minnesota 74- Purdue 61. UMinn's center and power forward combined for 49 points. For Purdue, Swanson had 18 points, Puryear 16, Jones 14, Lombard 7, Layden with 4 and McCarthy 2 were all our scorers. Maybe less than 500 fans, it was SOOOOO empty in the stands. Swanson fouled out when our coach told them to go into intentional fouling in the last minute down 8 to make it a 13 point loss.......

Wow. I do feel badly for the “core” players (non-transfers) like Swanson, Jones, and Puryear. Also Layden & McCarthy. Layden has had some decent outings and I’m glad to see the top 3 scorers are our recruits, not transfers.
Appreciate the running summary - I totally forgot they were even playing tonight. That’s how disinterested I’m becoming. Dang this is sad.

I think Carmin’s article in the Gr Lafayette Sports Report recently said this was a necessary game (win) to stay in the running for the B10 tourney.
NW’s status still undecided for how the league will handle their West Coast no-show trip. He suspects they will be forced to forfeit if they aren’t automatically dq’d by their record.

Don't mind the passion and intensity but she's been hovering on the edge of hurting the team(techinals), luckily we're not in most games so a technical wouldn't matter in the grand scheme. That said, that Minnesota player flopped as well. Coaching staff needs to help her keep the emotions in check though. Alot of promising moments for Swanson, especially in the first quarter. She should start the rest of the season.

I agree Swanson should start the rest of the way, but bring Lombard back into starting and sit Collier for goodness sake. If we had even mediocre coaches, I agree she would need the coaches to help rein in her emotions, but I don't think our coaches are capable of even that little task.
