Might have to sit PJ with a lead inside a minute.

PJ had the dagger, so not sure what to do. Interestingly, Spike is hitting nearly 95% of his free throws. So he might be a good replacement if we are nursing a lead with under 30 seconds when you know all they are going to do is foul you.

At this point go with the stats if there is no tradeoff elsewhere. Spike can handle the ball, has proven he has what it takes in important game situations in the ncaa. Today he had a couple drives that lead to very good looks. With the pressure on, I want him in the game shooting those fts now which is the complete opposite I wished for earlier in the season.

IMO, PJ is better all around that Lew Jack and LJ is probably the best point we've had since Deane. You can't take PJ out of any game.

3/9 FT Shooting in his last 5 games. 1 he doesn't get many opportunities. When he does, in the last 3-4 weeks, he is shooting 33%. Inside a minute he can't be out there.

Would you rather PJ with drives like LewJack or LewJack with PJs range? Their games are pretty different.

Lew couldn't shoot until his senior year, and even then wasn't really a threat. PJ has range, can handle the pressure pretty well this year, and thinks to pass first. I'd like to see his number compared to Lew's, but that really doesn't say much considering who surrounds/surrounded both of them. Neither were even the third offensive threat, but both know/knew how to make their team better. I'm not digging on Lew at all. He was a true Boiler and always will be. It's just my opinion that PJ is a better player, by a hair, and I don't think he gets much love, other than from Dakich when he calls games :)

I liked Lew and I like PJ, completely different point guards that made/make their teams better.

To the point of the thread: I would much prefer that Spike have the ball in his hands when the other team is looking to foul. You can't always make those substitutions, but whenever possible I don't see why anyone wouldn't want Spike in the game in those situations. Reliable with the ball and shoots 90% FT's. He's exactly what a coach would design for that circumstance.

Where did you get all that? The thread was about making FT to preserve a lead. There s zero question PJ hasn't been good lately. If he is going to call for the ball then he needs to make his freebies or get the ball to someone who can.

It was a response to New Pal above. Wasn't trying to hijack the thread. Sorry.

IMO people on here calling for certain lineups and players to be on the court at certain times have no credibility at all anymore.
If you don't want a good ball handler and a 94.7% free throw shooter on the floor when your trying to preserve a lead with under a minute to go then that is your problem. Not sure I would take PJ out, but I would have Spike in the game as well in that situation. I would take this logic any day of the week and run with it!

Not to mention Spike's been on the biggest stage & shown he could handle the pressure.

I agree with having Spike in with a short lead at the of games-he has the experience and he's automatic from the free throw line. Thompson struggles in big games at charity stripe-it is what it is. I thought that was the reason for bringing him on the team, letting him play due to his experience. Hell he's been further in the tournament that Painter has.

so happy for PJT !

I also like the idea of spike if we are ahead and in intentional foul situations.
he has only missed 1 all year (albeit fewer attempts) and has that prior big game, crunch time experience
