For whatever reason, Purdue stepped back from Mcdougle and he didn't go on his official visit. The kid had the size to immediately see the field. I am curious as to why we took that step back. He should end up being a very solid player. With the decomittment of Robinson, the loss of Johnson could end up being a big deal. Johnson likely would not have seen playing time for at least 3 years, but he could end up being a very good player. My concern is that we offered way too many athletes. We are really going to have to focus on the Dline and linebackers for next year. Too important to miss out on play makers at that position for two years in a row.

I would agree. This class is lopsided in receivers and defensive backs. We supposedly received a commitment from a 2* WR catlett from Kentucky today. Nothing against him, but I would have preferred that scholarship go to a linebacker or defensive line. Or to Payton.

Or maybe Brohm and his staff see these kids making impacts at different positions. Given a year or two of adding bulk under a college lifting regime, they may be able to contribute in other positions. Brohm may be taking a similar approach to what Fleck did at WMU...he may see the schedule and the talent next season and may simply use it to install his programs and expectations in. This may lead to a low win total but RS'ing most of these players may lead to better depth and better prepared players with a more favorable schedule in year two with a senior QB, senior RB, and players all around who have depth behind them.

What I'm seeing is the same old philosophy of recruiting players and hoping we can develop them into capable starters in 2-3 years. And they'll be great as seniors . What I want to see is recruiting players who have already developed and have the talent to play immediately. This is the new philosophy winning teams use. We need to recruit more players like Jones who are ready to contribute immediately.

Take a look at our basketball program. Biggie and V Edwards started immediately as freshmen. C Edwards proved he could start as a freshman. Rather than sitting back and developing and adding depth, they are starting and it's the old guys adding depth.

I want our football team to use the same philosophy. That's why I like adding the JuCo players, but am concerned about adding so many high school projects. We complained all last year about a lack of depth. Why did we have that lack of depth? It was because so many of our freshmen were red shirting adding weight and developing. To be successful, we need to eliminate the need to redshirt players. We need to recruit players ready to play, not projects

Mcdougal was never coming here. We were barely on his radar. HEAVY WVU lean all along.

That is very wrong. His pin was from his Purdue offer and he posted several things about Purdue and his visit. It all dropped off right before he was supposed to visit two weeks ago. He went on an FIU visit, but not ours? Something happened, and it very well could have been Robinson told him he was going to decomit and go to Minnesota. Whatever the reason, we stopped being a big player in his recruitment and it became extremely obvious he was going to WVU.

Purdue will always be a developmental program. Always.

that may well be very true. and if so, we will never be anything more than mediocre. We will live in cycles jus t like WMU did this year riding the success of their senior players, and then going back to obscurity when the coach leaves due to their success and rebuilding once more. it's been said what happens when brohm becomes successful? he'll leave for a bigger program and we will go back to rebuilding once more.

My desire is to stop that philosophy of always being a developmental program, and build a team based on talent, and then motivate that talent to win. That's what OSU does . It doesn't matter how many times they change coaches, the talent alone wins games.

but like you said, that will never happen at Purdue, and the best we can hope for is a small window of success and then regroup and rebuild.

Ok, I dream too much.

He was NEVER coming here. A pinned tweet means nothing. He was all WVU all along. We got an in home and that's it.

You're comment "I dream too much" is spot on. I would love to get 5 stars in here too but it ain't gonna happen right now. I'm not sure that will ever happen here.

I believe part of the problem that results in the gloom and doom is that half of the posters here are privy to the information on the knuckleboard forum and half of are not. Those on the knuckleboard site knew McDoougle was headed to WV all the time, and those of us without that information were led to speculate the worst. the same was true about Hayes. When I saw his name as a headline on the knuckle head site, I knew something was up. When I saw this name and his thread had 3 pages of comments, I knew he was gone.

Lack of information leads people to speculate, and most speculation is gloom and doom. if that information was made available to all when first received, there would be more acceptance of bad news, and less gloom and doom speculation.

There is a headline about Alstott. He also recently visited Illinois. His skills don't really fit Brohm's offensive schemes. But he is Mike Alstott's son. Is he the next to leave? Am I being gloom and doom for asking the question?

If not knowing all the info bothers you so much, either pay for it or STOP ####ING LOOKING AT IT YOU FREAK

If it's copied and quoted then why are you among "those of us without that information were led to speculate the worst". You knowing or not knowing doesn't change the outcome. Nobody else seems to be having this issue.

very true, but by arguing with you, you provided me the missing information I was seeking. albeit with a few personal attacks thrown in.

I assume this was meant for me.

1) I didn't let enough slip to make it worth your while. If $100 is too much for you, I doubt your commitment

2) personal attacks? You must be new

Actually I'm old. Older to this board than more than half of the posters. I just recently started posting because my other board I frequently posted at lost the majority of its posters to death or hazzelitus and lost their enthusiasm and will to post, even if only to complain. Mine was the last post on that football recruiting board, and it was made in 2014. Talk about gloom and despair. I'm like the last Mohican looking for a home.
