Maybe the best coaching move of CMP's career...

I like how DD says the guy just had to keep his arms up and Dodd would block it. Totally overlooking the fact Dodd just pushed Haas out of bounds to get to CE
Actually if you watch it again, Haas was setting the low block and moved out of the way. That's not to say he wasn't fouled a few other times not called......

I do find it funny how we praise Painter when CE gets the correct foul call but rip Painter and Biggie when Biggie will make a similar move, get fouled but not get the call.

Not to mention exploiting the matchup against Jackson, who gave us some dumb fouls earlier

I cannot believe how aggressively they tried to block CE's shot. It was an incredibly difficult attempt, a likely miss and game over. The defender home run swings down on CE's arm for the obvious foul. I don't think the ref wanted to call that late in the game, but it was just way too obvious. Just dumb.

Boiler Up!

Painter definitely dialed up the right play there. It looked like the same one he set up for Rapheal a year or two ago that got the team a win in an end game situation. The guys executed it well & CE came through with the FTs. Great job all around!

If they hadn't fouled out Biggie on a bs call, I'm not sure they call that last foul. Terrible officials, but justice prevails.

I was thinking that also... Against MSU I think.

I didn't mind the TO. If you look at the play, Dodd quit playing when the wistle blew. I'm not sure he would have made it if not.
It worked out... I just had the feeling CE was going to get that bucket, and it looked like he would have.. (and probably would have been an easier shot that what he ended up getting off the timeout), but it all worked out.. eventually. Not much thanks to the refs... (other than calling the obvious foul on CE)

I was very upset with that TO. Should of called it way earlier or let them play it out. Purdue was lucky the guy behind Boogie fouled him because that shot had no chance of going in

Fittingly, "DD" called the game.
he did a great job calling it too. I have no problem w/ the guy. I do understand the iu hate but I'm not a native Hoosier , but I think some here criticise him because he's from iu. He gives us alot of kudos which I give him credit for. I also never listened to his radio show .

I quit listening to his radio show a few years ago because he's basically an idiot to everyone that calls him.... Especially Purdue fans

He's honestly my favorite color commentator right now.

I think so too.
I can't take a lot of his daily shock jock radio, but for games he has become great.

he gives more detail on plays, intracasies, etc than most former coach/player commentators, while still having his cooky/funny comments as well.

and for his Nostradamus (nostradakich?!) comments - MD missing their two shots up 12, and we follow with an 11-0 run

Agree with DD's assertion that Mathias may be the big ten's best defender as well. Anyone off the top of their head know the last time the same team had the POY and DPOY from the same team?

Purdue.....JuJuan Johnson won both awards in 2011 IIRC.

For two different players, I think it's Michigan State in 2009, Lucas and Walton.

Dakich can be an idiot but he is for the most part fair with Purdue and I do think he knows more than most announcers. As for CE having the ball on the last possession, someone after the NB loss stated that CE should have the ball and try to drive and dish. I distinctly remember the post. Painter obviously reads these boards.

running a play for CE at the end of the game. Kids confidence has got to be sky high!!! Great play.

Nope. Painter did nothing. He didn't screen anyone, pass, shoot, dribble or anything. He had nothing to do with it. It's the players on the court only. (TIC).

Haas was walling up to keep him away from Carsen before removed from his spots. Refs have been horrible to Haas for three years most the time

He just talks too much and he's one of those guys who always "knows" someothing. I coached with him, I played against, I know his cousin, etc.

He seems to have gotten better about the talking....and I wonder if it's because Tirico left ESPN....those two would really get off the rails sometimes with excessive "stories" and "bantering." He also seems to have cut back on the local Indiana connection segues.....but I haven't caught all of his games this year.

Although, today and true to form, he did segue into the whole RJ "sauce" issue....and PJT...so much so that Dave Flemming was talking PJT up with his FT makes and sauce....I had to chuckle with that.

He has been very complimentary of CMP and Purdue for the last few years. I don't follow his radio show, so I have to rely upon posters for their insights. I understand he caters more to a different audience.....the majority of which are Indiana followers.....it is a business.

He generally does a good job of breaking down plays or what's going on with the game at a high level but easy to follow.....JMO.

Now that's he's cut down some of the excess, I have to admit, I like him doing games. From what I have heard, it sounds like he is a really good father, too, but I haven't ever met him.

Of course he does which explains why he has improved at coaching. We are awesome with our tips, insight and advice.

I mean, I certainly will take him over most analysts. Most are awful because they are just fired coaches who blabber and don't actually know much - remember Bob Knight read off rosters and clearly never saw teams play.

I thought the move that saved the game was the sub of Spike and Mathias for PJT and CE. Both came in fresh and let the team go on the run. The stats are rarely there for Spike but he plays a huge role in letting PJT get a little rest throughout the game by being a competent back up. Spike getting 10-12 minutes for the rest of the season is fine with me. I still having the image of PJT being absolutely exhausted at the end of the minne game in regulation and knew we had to have spike back. Credit to Painter for playing Spike after his injury knowing he was critical as a solid backup.
Side note: DD is an excellent color guy. He and Steven Bardo are by far my favorites.
