I guess nobody in this forum was in Mackey tonight. Matt said Biggie is in a great spot...late first, early second...listened last year and came back and improved. No hint either way. Thought if he could get Vince to start out the season like he plays the latter part he would have a great year...said people are going to be shocked when they see his all around numbers in so many areas. Have six people that have played a lot coming back and just need the new players to fit in around the other pieces. Liked the recruits and talked about how they gave some length and athleticism.

Said Ewing was a very good athlete. Wheeler could play 1 through 3...little light and good shooter that had some athleticism. Eastern was a great passer and could play 1-4 and will play 1 some. thought he could play the 1 on 0 and Carsen guard the 1 on D going forward. Compared Sasha to Dakota and said Haams is different than many of the bigs and would play more on the perimeter. I know I think if was kidboiler of something like that was worried he would be shoved down low. Matt said what I expected and also said Hamms told him half way thorugh the second semester that guardin Biggie and Haas he now has bruises on his bruises. Person asked in Carsen was homesick (rumor) ...said he didn't like the cold. Said some kids fight through things and others don't...just how some are wired. Spoke highly of the type of kids he has returning. Said Haas could be the best big man in the country adn thought he could see 25-28 minutes a game. Talked about not playing Haas, Biggie and Vince together...thougth previous year was too mechanical. Mentioned Taylor has been injured 3 of the last 5 years...was cleared and this was his chance.

Talked about fans asking him why he doesn't play zone...and never added anything other than to say he gets emails on it. Kim must read some of my stuff becasue she was looking at me as people were laughing about the zone question. Said we only play MSU once next year...there...same with IU. The team will scrimmage in Carmel on 8/11 and then at Jeff on 8/12...so save the date if you want a preview. I plan on going.

Well, that was off the top of my head. None of the other coaches spoke but they were all there. Most the people were interested in recruiting and player type stuff and so there wasn't any basketball things not tied to a particular player. The coaches were gone as soon as he quit or I was going to ask them in their opinion if they thought after the initial alignment in a matchup in comparison to man where you are playing a specific team where you wanted to switch 1-4 if they thought the handoffs in a mathup would create better court position without player loss or if they thought split second player loss would be worse than the court location...or any other thoughts on the subject, but they were gone. No paragraphs guys...just random thoughts as they popped in before I go to sleep...

Nice write up, thanks!

No way he becomes more athletic. There ARE limits to how you can remake yourself. Where he is today is light years from where he was in jr high but sculpting his body and improving his speed and strength have reached the point of diminishing returns. He better go while he's healthy and take what he's offered. With his work ethic that's just a starting point.

This statement is beyond ignorant. Of course he can continue to become more athletic. If he improves half as much athletically between his sophomore and junior seasons as he did between his freshman and sophomore seasons, he could be positioning himself to a late lottery to mid first-round pick. Another year of strength training could accomplish that and while he looks great as it is, he could definitely drop his body fat down a few more points while keeping or gaining muscle mass. Yes, there are laws of diminishing returns, but I haven't seen anything that would indicate that he is anywhere near tapped out .

I think he may have been referring to explosiveness, which you cannot improve on much. For example, Barkley at 300 lbs was much more explosive than Biggie will ever be, at any weight.

lotta truth in your thoughts..however they are not an absolute. Men physically mature into their late 20s. That said, the improvements might be diminishing returns in what he puts in, but the "less effective improvement" "could" be enough drop him a few spots. I say it must be a VERY hard decision for Biggie...too many scenarios unless he gets guaranteed money IMO.

Here's a Biggier question. Given the hard work he put in last year do you think he'll work measurably harder for another year for a "chance" to move up?

I believe the only way Biggie is going to improve his draft stock is if Purdue goes further in the NCAA tournament allowing Biggie to display his talents against other expected first round picks. I believe his stats speak for themselves, and NBA scouts will be looking for match-ups.

I can't imagine him working harder. I can see him working as hard
He has shown a work ethic greater than so many before him. I don't there is a clear cut answer to what he can do...lot of reasons to support both scenarios. I mean to him going, but it is a lean only

I know. I just wondered if anyone tried to ask him anyway (either without knowing that or to try to get a scoop from him).
yes, the question was asked and he stated that he could not comment on recruits except for those that have signed

I think that quickness and footwork when guarding on the perimeter is more important in Biggie's case and I think that he can continue to improve in that area. Draymond Green, for example, continued to improve in that respect well into his twenties.

I'm not predicting that Biggie stays, but I do think that he will be a clearly improved player if he does stay.

someone asked if he had changed his recruiting philosophy and i could not hear the answer. can anyone tell me what he said?

I don't think he actually answered it. I remember him saying people like this senior class were crucial and that getting good kids can be a trying thing. He said you have to also get away from the coaches and parents and get with people that know the potential players without as much bias. he said Jack Owens knew PJ's family well and so they knew what quality of a person PJ was. I remember him saying they needed skill with the bigs and that this next class would provide more length and athleticism and then he went into that class. Most of the offense is motion and man D in the half court are expected and so recruiting will need to fit those as much as possible...but he didn't go into any specific mention of a different approach. He did say Lutz widened the potential recruits
