Luke Ertel, Mt. Vernon: The junior guard and Purdue commit had a monster week in three victories, starting with 31 points, five rebounds and four assists in a 66-58 overtime win over Pike. He then had 34 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in a 73-56 win over Marion and 33 points (on 6-for-6 shooting from the 3-point line) in a 67-43 win over Southport.

I don't follow IN HS basketball. How good are those teams that he played?

good to hear, 6'2 lefties are OK w/ me

Yesterday there was a post that said Luke was an awesome PG and could end up being Braden’s successor. Is this the new definition of a pg averaging 30+ points? Is he really a pg? Or is he more like pistol Pete and Kyle Macy?

I liked Braden because he is a true pg and a floor general and coach on the floor. I also liked Kyle Macy, and Steve Alford but never thought of either as a PG. I prefer Magic Johnson and Stockton over Isaiah Thomas and Lillard.

Is Luke really a pg? Or have roles and labels changed?

He is a Pg for Indiana Elite but plays the 2 in Hs. I just watched the Southport game. Kid helped to make top recruits such as Mullins, Sisley, and Brady Koehler better while being a year younger.

Great question! I grew up in Huntington, back then Marion was "The Force" of the region. Always won Regionals. have no idea how they do now.

According to the Max Prep link I shared above, Marion is ranked 82nd in all of the Indiana schools, and are 9-9 to date. They are a 3A school, and ranked 26th in that class.

I remember watching that Marion team with Lyndon Jones and Jay Edwards. Also, a feisty kid named Skiles with Plymouth before that.

Ok, I'm off to the tar pits for a refreshing soak.......

I find it amazing they are 3A.

Rise and fall of the NCC…Muncie Central, Marion, Anderson, New Castle, Lafayette Jeff, Connersville, Kokomo, Richmond…all in the same conference… were constantly making state finals, sometimes 2 at the same time…great players, some of the biggest high school gyms in the world… would make for a great doc.

6'6" to 6'8" Lance Jones and I'm with you!
That and another 5 who can protect the rim. If he can shoot at all, of course I'll take that, but most of all we need rim protection next year.
Konan from PSU and I’d take Bruce Thornton as a guard next to Smith…and then for your 6’6 -6’8 guy, there has to be at least one guy who can fit the team in the smaller conferences!

I had to look up Konan, then saw it was niederhausen! Yes, that is the type player we need. He wouldn't even need to average the 12 ppg. Just give us rebounds and blocks and shot changing at the rim. Had 5 blocks against WI in his last game.
