Louisville/Brohm? What have you heard?

Louisville fan here in peace!

Ok, so Brohm isn't coming and Satterfield is our guy next year. But we've heard rumors that:

1. Our AD had a deal in place to get Brohm to come to Louisville
2. Our University President said NO
3. Our AD who is usually transparent, made an announcement to keep the coach but no questions.
4. Our AD is now going to FSU

He's a Louisville guy through and through. His family wants him home. We've had so many "insiders" and "local media" claim it was a done deal and he wanted to be home.

My only thought is that you guys have paid him rather nicely. I think he's done wonders here and you all would do whatever it takes to keep him. So have you all heard ANYTHING about thinking he'd leave or maybe just using it as a negotiating tactic? I can't post on the insider boards here, but I would like to know if there was any talk about him possibly leaving?

Because Miami showed you can negotiate with a job that isn't open, but at the same time, you guys never made a counter offer at all and I think it would've been a bidding war.

I don't know the truth or assume to know anything, I just want to know what you guys have heard?

The only rumor I have heard is from drive by posters from U of L telling us things.
Here is the thing.

I called it all BS speculation, but I've seen some more of the trustworthy sources start saying this was the case and it got me wondering. I still don't think it was a "done deal" as you all pay him a lot and I don't think we should fire our guy (who has done pretty good all things considering) to pay double the salary for Brohm.

Nothing new. I know the first time he was emotional and was very close to pulling the trigger. But he is very loyal and made a commitment to be here. I don’t think money is a driver for him. I think 2022 will be a big year for him as he has a lot of players coming back and a schedule set up that ices him a pathway to winning the West (he was within a TD against minny of winning the west this year). I wouldn’t be shocked if a year from now he may be in a position where he could be at peace with moving home.

If I were a coach, I wouldn't step foot at U of L until the mess there is cleaned up. That's gonna take a while. Secondarily, they don't have the money for Brohm. So not sure where these "insider rumors" are coming from?

If they made an offer where it got back to bobinski, I’d love to see their faces after his big ten money counter offer loll

The city of Louisville, while large, there's a big segment of UofL fans connected with the big Catholic Schools. Trinity and St. X are the 2 best football schools in the state usually along with Louisville Male. That Catholic School community is tight and are among the early and big supporters of UofL.

Jeff Brohm went to Trinity (same school as Rondale Moore) and his parents/family are still big in the community. A lot of the people in that community do have legit connections with the Brohms. Now my opinion is that Jeff told them that he wasn't interested in a job that wasn't open, but only said that to keep his family happy.

All you UofL guys do is speculate. Keep on speculating. Both times UofL fans came on this board and said it was a "done deal" and Brohm was headed to Louisville. Well, it hasn't happened yet.

Why would Brohm want to downgrade to UofL and the ACC after being in the Big Ten and having ample opportunity to win the West?

I have no illusions that Brohm is necessarily here forever, but my guess is that he’d leave for the right NFL job if it came open, before another college job.

After seeing Oregon, ND, and Oklahoma lose their coaches to $9-10 million salaries … anything’s possible.

I agree that his family would like to see him come home.

However, unlike what we saw a couple of years ago, I have not heard the chatter that Brohm was possibly looking elsewhere right now. I think his kids really like the West Lafayette school system, and his family has adjusted and like the West Lafayette area.

We will see what the future holds, because I don't think Purdue will be his final football job.

And that's my thought.

He probably did tell his family he'd be interested if the job was offered, but how much of that was to keep them happy. He could just say "well I wanted the job, but it wasn't open, not my fault" and he can keep them happy and the blame of UofL rather than him having to say no.

Obviously you forgot the way he was treated by the Louisville fans after he started he wasn’t leaving Purdue. I mean calling a bomb threat to his high school he went to? You are crazy

Yes. Yes they are crazy.

It’s not that Brohm would never go there. It’s that there are so many factors right now that would keep him here and make the UL job unappealing That it’s very low odds of happening. Anything that was said this off-season was speculation and wishes.
UL not in a great place right now and if he went there, it’s not like they would win 10 next year.
With a lighter schedule here and hopefully a good QB returning and a VERY experienced roster…he has every chance to win 10 here and the division.
I think at some point he could leave but as another poster said at this point the NFL is way more likely than a lateral at best CFB job

I think he burned some bridges when he turned it down before. I don't see any way he returns to U of L in the future. It isn't even a horizontal move.

Time heals all wounds. If he got the opportunity to go again, im not sure he would turn it down this time.

Do we really think that Jeff is going to leave Purdue to go to UofL because his parents would "like it"?

Best I have long gathered, his Dad seemed VERY content with him and the brothers at Purdue, and, I certainly get the same impression from Jeff.

UofL could not be more of a mess presently...they have had repeated cheating scandals in basketball...the ACC is irrelevant.

The ONLY draw to him is that it is "home"...which, admittedly could be a big draw, and, he even strikes me as a guy where that could/would be the case...but, I just don't see him leaving now with where he is in the process at Purdue and what appear to be his career goals and what not.

Just based on everything I’ve read my theory is:

1. Jeff, or more likely his extended familu let it be known he’d listen to UL offers, but no guarantee he’d take it

2. Tyra used the time during Satterfields time with his family to lay his dad to rest to work on a plan to get rid of Satterfield and at least attempt to hire Brohm

3. Tyra had everything in order, except the 12 million it would cost to buy out Scott and Jeff. He presented his plan to the UL president to get funds

4. She said no so Scott was retained. Tyra wants out and the new UL will be a yes man who will be a penny pincher

5. Purdue prepared a war chest in the event this played out and now will give Brohm a raise and an extension to avoid this for a few more years

I have friends and family from in and around Louisville. It's the only place I'm aware of that where you attended high school is more important than where you attended college...weird.

Once I had my first job, high school didn't really matter anymore.

As far as Coach Brohm. Hope he stays a long time, and I'm sure Bobinski will keep he and his staff well compensated. However' thanks to Coach Brohm we aren't in as desperate a situation to play games with UL this time around.

I'm sure Coach Brohm and everyone around him is quite aware of the mess that is UofL, so if that is their preference...so be it I suppose.

But I will certainly never understand that attraction. Certainly he will be able to do better than that if he so chooses.

I’ve heard St. Louis is like that as well

Yeah. I heard the scuttle but it was BRIAN Brohm.

The most insightful “inside information” I have heard was the anonymous interview of another big ten coach (prob assistant) that said schools were using the “Brohm is gonna leave” line against Purdue in recruiting for a number of years but now that line doesn’t work anymore because Brohm is viewed as being at Purdue for the long haul.

Idk about #5, but I think the rest is probably right. Brohm knows he has a hell of a gig and currently has complete university, AD, and fan support. He continues to get more and more money to build the program. My guess is the stadium project gets back on the front burners soon.

Not saying he wouldn't jump. But Purdue is going to give him a lot of reasons not to leave. Including probably a raise and extension after the bowl game.

I can't believe UofL fans are still on this. One thing everyone seems to forget is the proximity of Western Indiana to Northern Kentucky is just not all that far. People in NY have nearly as long of commutes by time to get to work as it takes to drive from WL to Louisville. I am tossing the whole "come home" argument out the window. The simple fact is that UofL would be a downgrade from ANY Big Ten school, including Indiana. I doubt UofL can compete with money, and if money was an issue, why not bolt to the south or west, as you know those offers will come with success.

If I were a coach, I wouldn't step foot at U of L until the mess there is cleaned up.
Until the mess is cleaned up??? I live near Louisville and read the Louisville Courier-Journal. You don't know the half of it.

U of L President James Ramsey FIRED for filthy misconduct.
U of L basketball coach Pitino FIRED for filthy misconduct.
U of L football coach Petrino FIRED for filthy misconduct after getting FIRED at Arkysaw for filthy misconduct.
U of L AD Tom Jurich FIRED for filthy misconduct.
U of L Dean of Education Robert Felner FIRED for embezzling $2.3 million US Department of Education funds earmarked for No Child Left Behind Act research. The goon was also sent to jail for 63 months.
