We may have to wait a while or go low to the lesser coaches. Speed to hire killed us the last time. So I don't mind waiting to get a good fit. What about Dana Holgorson? He is on a temporary hire at Nebraska.

Id say right now UNC is a better job but I think we edge out WVU.
Being a coach in b1g or sec will be a huge advantage after profit sharing. I think UNC can edge us out given their bball blue blood status will lend itself to a better nil system. WVU doesn't have that and will likely be 1 to 2 mill cheaper than purdue.

Yeah usually there are 8-10 jobs open. With a deep candidate pool and only 2 other openings close to our level at this point, we sit about as good as we can here.
Hopefully, this time, Purdue has some meaningful criteria to go by, instead of just picking a warm body. It would be nice to have someone who has HC experience, is innovative, knows how to use the transfer portal and has had experience turning a losing program into a winning one. If this turns out to be another 5 day search, like the last one, than we know that Purdue is not making a serious search!
Holgorson was not well liked by the folks I know in Houston. Seriously doubt he would even be thought of.
These hirings tend to move very quickly. We should not be starting from scratch. Feelers should have been out out weeks ago.
I disagree UNC being a better job. The ACC is in no mans land and likely to lose there 3 premier football programs. Purdue has the advantage in $$, stadium size, student enrollment, etc. UNC wil always be first and foremost a bball school.
I don't think you are necessarily wrong but a coach at this junction will be looking at a 3 to 5 year window. UNC could offer a good mix of decent enough current roster, good nil, etc.
If I was Dan Mullen I'd prefer UNC over Purdue. Win 10 games in a weak acc and become a top SEC hire in a couple or so years.
Going to purdue will be a 5 year rebuild to get to that spot.
Now a younger coach with less track record may prefer purdue since he is basically going to have a few years to right the ship.
I disagree on the 5 year rebuild. NIL and the portal have shown a rebuild can happen in 1 year.

5 years to get to a 10 win season in the b1g seems reasonable. I don't think it should take more than 2 to 3 seasons to break the 6 win barrier.
I know iu caught lightening in a bottle, but they showed it's possible, even for a historically piss poor program like iu.
Huh? 10 wins? Neither Tiller or Brohm reached 10. Only once in 1979 did Purdue win 10. A better shot now with 12 games.
This is slightly off-topic (for now), but how is Mike Norvell still around at Florida State? Last year not withstanding, he's had 3 losing seasons in 5 years---at Florida Friggin' State. And this year was an epic disaster.

But North Carolina may be the most likely to be wanted by the SEC or B1G in the next round of expansion, if and when they both go to 20. Flagship school, good-to-great in multiple sports, solid academics. Yes, will always take a backseat to basketball, but I think it's a better job than Purdue...right now.
Look, the next round of Big Ten SEC expansion might be in 2075. Right now, 2024, Purdue is making $50-60 million more in TV revenue than UNC and the ACC schools are locked into their current Grant of Rights and lousy TV deal until 2036. We could easily afford to pay double what UNC can pay a football coach. Purdue is clearly the better job right now and will be for at least the next decade.
We don’t make 50-60 mil more a year in TV revenue. It is like 25-30mil tho and that adds up over time. I’d expect that gap to widen into the future as well.
Painter did the same with the Missouri flirtation. Smart financial move by those guys to use the leverage.
