I'm 72. Hate to see it but my old classmates are fading. My mother was the oldest of a large family. Her youngest sister is 86 and still as sharp as a tack. As long as she keeps going, it gives me an incentive.
My best man and three of my 5 groomsmen are passed. .... oh hell, I didn't need to think about that

My wife's baby brother is 60. He's a contractor working in the aviation industry abd has lived in Taiwan for ten years. He married a girl in her mid-30s. While battling cancer he became a father for the first time. He is in remission and his son just turned one. He owns a house in Pensacola and one at Tecumseh Bend. The intent is to be living back her by summer.
Cancer has no favorites. It finds people of all stripes...

Yep unfortunately still here. Currently trying to settle my wife’s mother’s estate. She had a trust for whatever reason as her assists were very small. We are getting our stuff organized so our kids don’t have to go through what my wife is doing now. Unless you have over 7 million in assets don’t get a trust. They are not worth the money these attorneys charge for them.
I'm 68 and this Tuesday I'm picking up my finished Will and POA, was dragging my feet on that issue

Tecumseh Bend has been flooding many of the past springs .... it has not been heaven on earth.
I once thought of retiring there. Wife could be close to her brothers since 4 of them live there, and I could be close to Purdue and some old friends and family. When I looked at all of the steps to climb for every trip and reevaluated living so close to her family, the plan was scrapped.

We did a will about 4 years ago. My wife purchased a packet recently called a NOK (Next of Kin) box. It is a means of organizing all papers, passwords, accounts, etc for survivors. Some parts of growing older were never given much of a thought until we arrived at that age.

Worst than Siena for you or just the fact that it would be so much more often?

Only you would make a thread about losing people (most to death) about you. You're hands down the biggest POS on this forum and that includes all the Indinia fans that come here.

I've been through two wars and have seen people burning to death and in immense pain from being shot and they cried and complained less than you do. You're a self-entitled, lying crybaby of epic proportions.
I can't imagine the horror you have witnessed. Reading your post took me to this last July when a young lady who really struggled dealing with what she saw in Iraq. She ran outside and took her life. I'll not post the details, but it was a tragedy on so many fronts. Many people deal with issues much larger than if someone doesn't like what someone said.

"She joined the United States Army Reserves and served as a photojournalist in Iraq with the 350th MPAD, which was attached to the 82nd Airborne, in 2003. Emily returned home a decorated Specialist who was awarded the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal With “M” Device. Following her honorable discharge from the military in 2009, she earned her associate’s degree from Ivy Tech."

They were Battle Ground kids. Played in Burnetts and Moots Creeks til the oldest could drive, then they added the Tippy and Wabash. I spent many days with them fishing at Oakdale or wading from High Bank to Hog Point. Three of them bought old river shacks and renovated and upgraded. One bought a real shack and used a barn kit modified to a house.

That is sadly a frequent story and really is an epidemic anymore with as bad as it has gotten. and how much it is generally ignored (by government officials).

MY father had bad PTSD and drank himself in to oblivion.. I think what "saved" me was I changed jobs and sorta eased my way out. and have been involved in one degree or another since I discharged. Hard to say, not everyone is the same which is what makes this also very hard to treat.

Anyway sorry to derail this sad story just hits home a bit.

Yes it is/was...more than the more sanitary parts I posted. As @BBG related...much too common. There are people that are dealing with real difficulties, much worse than anything that can be said. I'm not going into everything from her being a cheerleader and then coming home after Iraq, but Iraq definitely left an impact. Her youngest son (6????) I understand never actually saw it, but heard the shot and ran outside and saw her on the ground and brushed her hair off her face and with her eyes open thought she was alive and just not responding. Anyway, yes it is and was sad.

Thanks yeah I am sure I was not diagnosed as really it wasn't a thing back then, so I am sure a lot of who I served with had it... some of what helped my buddies was going to the VFW as odd as that sounds. You're around fellow service folks that have seen/been through the same thing you have and that goes a long way I think.

isolation is a problem with all mental issues I suspect and so I'm sure being around others with similar issues does in fact help!

My son had several tours in Iraq and N. Africa ... but Afghanistan left him scarred and with severe PTSD. possibly due to his having some-command over a battalion of helicopters. They lost two 'copters in that deployment

And now a word from our sponsor …

Fellas. Are you troubled with the heartbreak of … Tecumseh’s Bend? Feeling bound up, bloated and strained to drain? Slow on the flow? Limited to floods of good wishes? Well, thanks to our friends downstream at Eli Lilly, now you can be as straight as an arrow with the new and improved Tenskwatawa. No more wigwams. Be the tallest teepee in your village. A true tawa of powa. Just ask the Luv Guv himself, William Hairy Harrison. “Yeah, baby! Tippecandoo and tighter, too.” And Tenskwatawa comes fully guaranteed. From the makers of Prophet’s Rock, your money back if unsatisfied, because, as true pioneers on drugs, we may not be non-for-Prophet, but we’re proud of our charitable mission. We’re Indiana-givers.

And this is your announcer, Tony Randall, also known as Felix Unger, signing off as a new father at age 77. And again at 78. Woo-Woo-woo-woo. Woo-Woo-woo-woo.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program …

WoW! My brethren. I had no idea. We are so close. I, like davie had my first and only @54. HS class of’29. Trying to groom a football prospect. I lived on Maxwell bend until recently. On the corner of Byc Bridge Rd and 1275W. Now in Lafayette much less yard work.

My brother and father got a load of lumber in Lafayette and took Bicycle Bridge rd home. They found out the hard way why you need to tightly secure your load going up that hill.

Heller has been gone for a while now but I got to know him personally a bit.. some have migrated to the other site and stayed, but yeah we've lost some along way.

The "split" really did a number on our fanbase IMO.
Heller once called free users "freeloaders" Forget about ad revenue I guess, really showed his age not understanding how the internet works, and can generate income.

Did any of you post years ago on the Steve’s Gridiron/Mr. Hoops forums, back close to 25 years ago? If so, there was a group of us Indy area posters that met for lunch on the NE corner of 465. I believe it was at the old Cheeseburger in Paradise. I remember MDC and db being there, but not many others. Does anyone else remember or attend that. I used the handle Big D in the early years? Anyway, just wondering if any of those posters from years go by have passed.

I did Mr Hoops and Indy Star back in the day. People would shorten my handle and call me POP

I don't have any extra information, but just wanted to say that I used to really look forward to MDC's player breakdowns after Purdue basketball games.

I posted a lot back then ...have a report on ChrisThomas inside it. I never got to teh Cheeseburger in Paradise. ACtually met up with some IU people only to share some information with the owner (Ed Roberts) on education. He was part of the Manufacturer Lobbyist that started ISTEP. That was on 431...maybe first road right after football stadium.

I did a trust and not close to 7 million assets. I can't even recall the total cost, but remember it being lower than most...and ended up tipping him $1,000.00. Full disclosure with it being a friend of the family he cut me a bit cheaper. I did it as well to try to lay out things when gone. It gets a bit complicated sometimes and hope this helps. No matter what you do other than irrevocable trust, life estate and such...you can't rule from the grave. My dilemma is how much do I spend and how much do I leave behind and I know that varies amongst us and there is no right answer for everyone. Part of it eats at me knowing I can work to save money by doing things on my own and then a grandchild and such ...or a marriage to a child goes bad and she or he gets half....

I have no problem with spending, but my wife does. We saved our whole life so now I have no problem letting it go. I’m not trying to save anymore and see all my friends are. They are getting cheaper by the day constantly complaining about prices. I always ask what are you saving for? They all want to leave more to the kids. They won’t do things because spending the money is not in the cards. I just don’t get it. Oh well to each their own.

Hey, you've done your part and to me a 'Trust' lays that out for your personal desires and the unnecessary court direction or the option for family members to fight against your Will.

My wife is apart of a trust fund, but she has a sibling that has broken her relationship with her parents. So they shortened her percent of that Trust, but she would fight against any Will that would be presented in front of the court and she would push it to a supervised estate instead of unsupervised.

I have a Will for now, but when me, and the wife retire. We most definitely will have a trust for our kids sake.

My dad went to Purdue. All my brothers went to Purdue and two of us dated our now wives at Purdue. I am 56 and have four boys, three of them have graduated from Purdue. Two are in IT and one is a Marine officer. My fourth is a junior in the school of Technology (CyberSecurity). I share this to say we are a Boiler family through and through. I found this site years ago when it was the Old Gold and Black site and fell in love with the passionate Purdue members and their updates/perspective/insights.

I have seen a number of posters come and go but always felt this was a pretty good group of Purdue fans. What I have learned over the years was said above, the older I get, the more valuable "time" becomes. That being said, my prayer is that each of you (good and bad) have a personal relationship with Jesus as each of us will die one day, then life really begins. The 80 or so years lived here will be a blip in eternity and much of what is said, argued, or celebrated will not matter one iota.

I am thankful for this group of Purdue fans and though I have never met any of you personally (at least not that I know of), but I appreciate the comradery among this group. So when one who used to post here no longer does, they are missed. My prayer for everyone is for you to use the remaining time the Good Lord has given you in a manner that brings you the most significance.

P.S. if anyone knows of an internship position for a bright CyberSecurity young man then let me know.

I fully get it. FWIW, my attorney friend that did the trust encouraged me to spend my money. I was not raised with a lot of money. Had the depression not hit and my great grandfather not allowed people to have their money and absorbed all the debt that eventually led to his bankruptcy I would have had more money...but he did what was right. My sisters and I have all done okay, but for me now with some years I still do things to save a buck...just a habit grown over a few decades...and being diabetic it helps to be active when able
