Some posters were asking who we should get??? Here you go. 15ppg and 41.5% from 3 on high volume. That is a shooter we need. He would start day 1. Upgrade from what we have now for sure.
Completely agree, he would be ideal. Not saying there's no chance but big $ and everyone in the country will be after him.

Probably right on the market although he's a fringe 2nd round pick right now. I would expect that the most important thing to him is playing in a system that allows him to be the man so he can't get himself a guaranteed NBA contract.
Painter needs to go ahead and pop that CE highlight reel in one time.

Anyways - aside from the name calling, I do think this will be a good test of where things stand.
Sampson has too much integrity to have reached out thru back channels prior to the young man entering the portal.
FAU coach mentioned that his players have been recruited throughout their tournament run via back channels. Made me think of Sampson asking someone else to call while he sat by listening.
I’d be stunned to see him at Purdue, my guess is he stays in Texas or maybe goes to a Kansas, no doubt Painter needs to check in.
I could definitely imagine some of that back channel recruiting coming on behalf of Miami.
Would be a huge pickup for Painter but can see him ending up at KSU because of his relationship with Tang.

I know for a fact, (although I won't share my sources) that Aiden Oconnell was talking to Charlie Jones well before Jones entered the portal last year.
Should Painter be in a kids ear? No. Should a player be reaching out? Absolutely 100%.
Boosters can't talk to another teams player? They certainly can.
There are quite a few good fits in the portal, but Cryer is literally a perfect fit for what we need. Another honorable mention is Max Abrams who will also have a long list of suitors.
I truly hope that our freshmen from this year make a sophomore leap, and/or that Heide and Colvin hit the ground running. I would love to not have to rely on that happening due to us getting one of the top guards from the portal though. I really hope Painter doesn't hold back due to recruiting over existing players, this team could be amazing if the above plus a top transfer all happens.........

I can almost guarantee that Painter will let it be known that even if it costs a lot of money, he's not going to want to take a guy who is in it JUST for the highest payout, and I get it. He doesn't want a mercenary.

He's been pretty clear that getting buy-in to the culture is prob requirement #1 when he's getting recruits. How that differs when going to the portal for players it's hard to say, but can't imagine it's a lot different

Pardon the snark. I agree. He seemed like he would be a good fit for. us but in the end it looks like the money just overcame his basic nature. How many of us could have looked that kind of money in the eye and said, no thanks.
Basic nature? Whose basic nature is it to not want to be economically secure? There is nothing illegal, unethical or immoral about it.
Here's the choice. Go to Miami and make $800k or to West Lafayette Indiana and get paid a heck of a lot less for doing "charity" work.
I went to Purdue and lived in WL. Would I live there for another 4 years if you paid me $800,000? I'd truly need to think about it. On one hand its great money. On the other hand, life is short.

I applaud the young men & women who are using the system to make money. In a free capitalist society, they are doing what is best for them. I would....and likely you would too
People can & do compartmentalize and make $ on one hand and do the best at basketball on the other....or whatever their chosen profession is. Happens all the time in many professions.

If CMP gives excuses - not to go after the best players that's on him for not being a good program manager. And I am a big CMP backer based on his in season performance. But let's be real here.
Other solid guards that would be good gets, the aforementioned Caleb Mills, Aaron Estrada out of Hofstra (was injured when we played them), Tyler Perry out of North Texas (CUSA POY), Jaden Bradley out of 'Bama.

I do find it interesting we haven’t seen anyone from Purdue enter the portal. Not saying it is a given someone will lead just saying in the current state of things.
Poaching off other teams seems to be going too far should that happen...at any place. Let's pretend that a hint on the other site was that Brandon may be a person of interest. If true, then I would assume many already know. If true and others know, there must be a reason to keep it quiet...if true. If true, perhaps he doesn't want to close the door if nothing seen as better for him is offered and so if that hint is true...that could be a reason why he is not in the portal. Course...what if the hint from the other site was not true?
