When will Purdue start keeping these kids? Kmet, now Anthrop is visiting IU. Even the basketball program has missed on these type of players. Hopefully the excitement from the basketball program this upcoming season can put some much needed spark back into the University?
There is a difference between pretty much ignoring a legacy and recruiting and missing a legacy.
First off, not every legacy ends up at their parent's alma mater. This is not a Purdue thing, it just happens. I don't know why it's so shocking to you. Some kids want to forge their own path. Some get better offers.
Look at Glenn Robinson. He went to Purdue, had a tremendous career at Purdue, etc. His kid that played basketball didn't want much to do with playing where his dad did. I don't think it had anything to do with it being Purdue. His other kid ended up at Purdue and he could have gone to other more successful football teams. But he chose Purdue. That's one example of sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. Kids like to be their own thing these days more and more.
And hell, look at Matt Painter. Not a legacy per se, but he grew up a big IU fan and came to Purdue.
You don't always know the story. Anthrop visiting IU? Ok, great. He's visiting. He should go look at places. Would you be dying to go play at Purdue right now? And also, no offense to the Anthrops, but he is walk-on material. He listed out schools recruiting him and it included Marian, Indiana State and Saint Francis.
The Kmet situation seems a bit off because Purdue didn't even bother offering and we have the scholarships. We don't know the situation. Even if he says he's not interested, throwing him a scholarship offer and trying to get him to visit seems reasonable.
