Latest BB Polls

For those that are interested, Boilers are 15th in the latest AP poll, 16th in the USA Today Coaches poll. Louisville is ranked 14th in both of them.

How is IU still ahead of us? Our only loss is to now #2 - Villanova.
IU lost to a regional campus of it's own university - Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne.
I am Fort Wayne and thought it was awesome, but give me a break. They are in the Summit League and are unranked. The fact that they are your sister-campus should drop you 15 spots on its own.

This may be an oversimplification, BtB, but probably because Indiana started out ranked higher and still has the win against Kansas (on a neutral floor). They did drop 10 spots in the AP but only 5 in the coaches poll. I haven't looked at the voter(s) breakdown, though. In either event, it's something else to discuss, but I don't take a whole lot of stock in the polls this early.

Completely clueless once again why I hate preseason rankings

Not sure where I read it, but I saw some other poster on a different board (neutral - maybe North Carolina?) essentially say "They were both overreactions. The first being putting IU that high after their win over Kansas and then dropping them that far with their loss to IPFW." I pretty much agree with that sentiment.

I think that's a very fair take.

IU can beat anyone when the 3's are falling and they are allowed to run. Slow them down and defend the 3 and they can get beat by an inferior team. Kansas and IPFW are both good examples of that.

Yes IU lost to Fort Wayne but they do own a marquee win. What is Purdue's best win? Auburn? Utah St?

Great...let's worry about beating all the teams we should beat...and don't win against any highly ranked teams. A lot to brag about there

Their schedule has been pretty weak so far, but I'm still surprised ND hasn't cracked the top 25. I thought they looked pretty good the 2 times I've seen them.

I think it is obvious they see we can't play defense, rebound and our effort is up and down, also we need depth in the post. If Painter keeps us in the top 20 all year he will have done one hell of a job. The only way I see us getting way better is J Taylor coming back from injury and becomes a rim protector.

Well I disagree with all that. Plus the voters don't do that sort of in depth analysis on anybody. Most voters, I believe, go on gut feel and personal bias. How else do you explain differences of no votes to top ten votes on the same team from various sports writers from the AP. http://www.collegepolltracker.com/basketball/
Click on a team and see how they vote.

Its amazing we put any stock on these polls given the "credentials" of those voting.

What I would love to see is a page like this where these "journalists" gave their opinions as to why they put teams in the order they did.

Example is Mike Barber of the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Last week, he had Purdue at 20. This week 24. Why the four place drop? Oh, by the way, he still has IU at 6.
