Watching Phoenix I am reminded how much energy he brought to us last year , who fills that role this year ? Not really sure any of you guys have any thoughts ?
I thought the same thing watching it.. we need another guy who can handle the ball, defend, and shoot like him, that's a tough combo. We are looking at Colvin and Heide, but that seems like a lot to ask.Watching Phoenix I am reminded how much energy he brought to us last year , who fills that role this year ? Yep, Cox and Harris will have to share that responsibility.Incoming freshman to bring the energy.
Yep, Cox and Harris will have to share that responsibility.
I just don't see either one playing enough minutes to really fill that role like Lance did. Maybe they surprise.Yep, Cox and Harris will have to share that responsibility.
Neither of those guys are primary ball handlers. If one of the freshman guards can defend and handle it well enough, that will be plenty. We have lots of other shooters.I thought the same thing watching it.. we need another guy who can handle the ball, defend, and shoot like him, that's a tough combo. Cams not guarding guards.I just don't see either one playing enough minutes to really fill that role like Lance did. Maybe they surprise.
I think the answer is Cam.
He can guard 1-4, but correct he won’t be matched up all game with a guard unless he’s at the 3 since we have a big lineup in and the other team runs 3 guards.Cams not guarding guards.
The one thing Lance brought was that smile and his energy , he brought everyone into the game , including his teammates who fed off his energy. We know Braden does and in some respects TKR can , but we need that heart along with the skills .Harris without a doubt. From what I have seen he brings the energy and his game seems remarkably close to Jones.
I thought the question was about who brings the energy that Lance did. Nothing to do with who they guard.Cams not guarding guards.
I agree, I think Cam could bring it this year , especially is dunk energy .I thought the question was about who brings the energy that Lance did. Nothing to do with who they guard.
Good point, but defense is half the game and honestly THAT was Lance's specialty. His offense was a bonus.I thought the question was about who brings the energy that Lance did. Nothing to do with who they guard.
Pretty sure I heard that the portal experts didn’t rank him very high, so you’re probably mistaken.Lance was one-of-a-kind. Replaced by committee. Everyone steps up.
I think it is a concern though. Who’s going to be that third guard/wing who can guard, hit a big shot or use their quickness to get to the rim. He took a lot of pressure off our sophomore backcourt last year, which helped them develop. He also guarded the best guard/wing on the other team.Lance was such a fun player and a fan favorite. And this has been a fun thread to read with all the memories of what he did.
But with Edey gone, I hardly think "How is Purdue going to replace Lance Jones" is the Boiler's biggest concern. 😎
I think his positive drive and happy leadership will be equally missed.I think it is a concern though. While I agree, replacing the 2 NPOTY/most dominant college player since Shaq is our biggest concern, replacing Lance is pretty big too.
And that’s why you’re not a coach at a top men’s college bball team.I see Harris. Harris was a big time team player for his last team.
I see this as Myles last opportunity to make an impression.
I see Cam becoming a role player
Cox and Benter? Sorry, I’m not seeing it. I don’t see either playing like Jones did as freshmen
Hopefully he realizes the gargantuan opportunity an Edey-less offense presents for him, TKR, and Colvin….I agree, I think Cam could bring it this year , especially is dunk energy .

Wole must be getting different reports…maybe he’s in practice every day? 😂What game footage are you basing this on?? What are you seeing??
Likely absolutely nothing.
By rare chance, you might be right. You could be right just because frosh take awhile. But there are reports these two will be bigtime players. How soon, we will see.
Brian has said that having a secondary ball handler is important to Painter. So, it sounds like Harris/Cox will have larger roles on this years team than originally thought.I think the real answer is 25% Braden, 25% Fletcher, 25% Cam/Myles, 25% frosh.
Lance took a load off Braden and Fletch as underclassmen last year.
Now upperclass, it's on them to be stronger and better and spend time dealing with those guys that Lance took by default.
I really liked how Cam came on at the defensive end late in the year. We know his energy and shooting will be there. If he becomes a reliable team defender this team goes up 1/2 a step. Myles seemed to be getting it as well but had more room to grow as of last year. With his athleticism if he's stronger and works swing man defender could end up our best defensive position. That would be awesome!
Lastly if the frosh (a frosh) can play, that and some ball handling will be the job. Focus and effort could net them small rotation roles on a possibly very good team.
It's a key issue and how they answer it will be Large factor in the success of this team.
And the key with that, that Fletcher is NOT that secondary ball handler. He's talked about that as a change from 22-23 to 23-24 with bringing Lance in. Let Fletch do what Fletch does best.Brian has said that having a secondary ball handler is important to Painter. Choicebeef discussion, is Mr Harris the X factor , hope soWatching Phoenix I am reminded how much energy he brought to us last year , who fills that role this year ? Not really sure any of you guys have any thoughts ?
First I don’t think we will match the scoring even if we are a top 10 team. 82 ppg is phenomenal but we can have a special season averaging 75 ppg. We have before. So with TKR avg. 6.4 points per game and Braden Smith 12 ppg , I see these 2 having to make up half Edey's production of 25 ppg so that's 12.5 ppg between them , putting them at 12 4 and 18 each or 3 baskets extra ppg ....so with Cam Heide coming off 3.4 ppg if he were to bring his to 10 or 12 , I think our team would have adjusted nicely with key players , Braden Cam TKR bringing the energy. .
