I don't believe any discussion about stats helps the team win! People in the NFL already know stats and what a player can do. Biggie had better stats than the duke guy who won the award and didn't even play SG. As Hazell would say, they look at films. Moore had better stats than the other two guys who were selected as All Americans at WR last year, so they gave Moore All American as a return guy. I'll bet there is some return guy who is pissed.
I guess it makes fans happy talking about stats.
I'm sure offensive linemen have stats too. they have awards, so they must have stats. We give out more stats than we give out participation trophies. The more stats you create, the less important they become. Deacon Jones is a hall of Famer. How many sacks did he have ? Zero, because when he played, they didn't have sacks as a stat. Wow, what must the fans have talked about back then ? maybe his play spoke for itself. I' quite sure his fans and the NFL knew exactly how good he was without requiring the annotation of stats.
However, true champions and champion fans don't talk about stats. They talk about rings and championships. People and players who finish second talk about stats. I encourage all of you to visit St Louis, Green Bay, LA, Alabama, Columbus, New York and Milwaukee. You'll soon learn the difference between fans of champions and fans of also rans.
Next time the team has a 4th and 1, I doubt any of you will start screaming out stats to help encourage our team. So don't lie about it and say stats help the team! And I bet George would trade all his personal stats for one defensive stop when Nevada was on the 20 yard line late in the game..
it's nice George lived up to his hype and generated all those personal stats. Call me selfish, but I would have rather he had 0 stats if it meant we won.
What were Spegal's stats Friday night ?
