Just want ya'll to be thankful Painter is at Purdue

Die Hard IU Fan for years. Saw my first IU game when Branch was coaching. What made me switch.....Davis, Sampson, Crean, and my late wife's love of the Boilers. My son played a couple of games against Painter and I always liked the way he played and his attitude. Took a lot of time to be honest that I like what I see with Matt.
Sorry to learn of your wife. Has to be tough. :(

I used to think maybe IU could make a comeback but no more. Sure they have banners but so does Cincy and a lot of other schools. Nobody thinks the others are entitled to greatness just because they had a great distant past. Recruiting to W. Lafy is not easy. The IU faithful believe their campus is heaven. Nice place but it isn't really that easy to get to and they have no more glamour and excitement to offer a recruit than most schools and a lot less than some. I see no reason why they would ever attract the kind of star coach they seem to delusionally believe they can land. Everybody has money so that's not a big advantage. There are 3 or 4 more desirable locations to coach just within the B1G.
SI, I think that a lot of what you describe is a false sense of entitlement promulgated by media. It isn't called "The IU Star" for no reason. Also, Dick Vitale in his commentary refers to IU as a "blueblood" without recognizing that their period of dominance is long past the records of the rest of that perceived peer group. Dickie V's act is old but loud and his platform influences, like it or not. He is an RMK worshipper, even if the god is a mortal. As Marshall McCluan observed many years ago: "...the media is the message."
