He had all the opportunity in the world to be productive on a mediocre UNC team this year.

Yeah not sure on this….if he connects to Paint and wants to see if we can make it work, sure but we don’t need him sitting on the 3pt line taking jumpers. We need interior force.
Appears official now. Not sure we need him but guess he is a hedge if Burgess isn’t ready
Painter doesn’t play the $portal$ game, so I doubt we’re even on his radar. My guess is whatever transfers we get(if any), are going to be a lance jones type. A player no one has ever heard of from a small school, who isn’t looking for a large paycheck.
I don’t know. There are people acting like this is gonna happen.
Painter's eye for talent and roster fit will be a huge plus here.
Jones was perfect. Will likely see something like this again.

Geographically makes him closer to home and a chance to actually develop as a serviceable big man.
On TOS there are a few people hearing rumbles.
Close relationship with the coaching staff, especially Brantley. Was recruited pretty hard out of high school.
I think folks expecting the top recruits may be a little let down when all is said and done. For what we need, rebounding, he fits the bill pretty good. He is also a big who can stretch the defense which gives TKR the post all to himself.
Agreed. We will probably need to max out our credit card just resigning our own.
I haven’t watched him play but looking at his stats, he’s 13/40 from 3 in his career. He’s also a 64% career FT shooter. Is he able to hit 15-18 footers off the PnR? How is his motor?
Seen him play in high school several times. I sure don’t see how he was rated so high. Haven’t seen him but once in college. Hope he is a lot better now.
Guessing he would be a much different player had he been in our system for 3 yrs. I can see where he probably realizes that now as well.
I wanted him out of HS. I think 3 plus years later he has failed to improve and lost his NBA lock status. Kid is coachable I doubt we will be a player here. I wish him well. Hearing DePaul is high on him.
I’m in the same boat - after 3 years and minimal progress, wish him well but don’t see a fit. Keep in mind he was injured his senior year of high school and battled injuries at UNC.
To add, how soon after their season, will MSU’s X. Booker enter the portal. I’d say he is not much different than what J. Washington has done/would offer his next team.
Hot dang….didn’t think about him. Noticed he is basically playing scrap minutes and didn’t even see the floor against New Mexico.
It’s amazing on how these bigs get pitched to not come to Purdue.
I do think that already having Edey, TKR, Furst and Gillis probably didn’t help with getting Washington.
Yeah, you'd think by now these highly rated bigs would want to come to Purdue. I get that Purdue may not be offering the initial bag that they could get elsewhere, but that's got to be small in comparison to what they could make going pro somewhere. And Purdue has a proven track record of getting bigs ready and in the pros.
To me this says Coach Brantley is much more valuable than most give him credit for.
I think most of us on here realize it and give him a lot of credit, but he is really good. He means a lot to this program and the success that we've had.
Maybe people outside of the Purdue program. But Coach B is THE BEST big man developer in the country and Purdue fans know!
Assuming we can’t afford a guy like Davidson, I’d be fine with adding Jalen at the right price.
I can see DePaul, they improved this year, he’d help them and likely be a starter there.
He is a mediocre player on a mediocre team. As someone posted above, he had every opportunity to shine, and didn't.
Agree with your first statement. Shine in what way? Purdue needs elite role players at the 4/5 that can compliment Trey.
If Trey plays well against Houston, including continuing to be an active rebounder, he’ll be on almost every preseason AA list at one level or another and will be a trendy pick for dark horse NPOY.
DePaul could have done worse than hiring Holtman though. They showed pretty good improvement in year 1 and supposedly are keeping most of their contributing players next season, Washington would be a nice fit there, I don’t think he fits at Purdue unless he’s content playing 10-15 minutes a night.
This thread is the reason why the portal at the least needs to be pushed back to final 4 week, my preference is the Tuesday after the title game. We got more people (including myself) posting about transfers than we do about tonight’s games, heck, even Purdue’s game tomm lol. The focus should be on the 16 teams left playing, not about the 1000 or so players that are in the portal. I hope this changes next year.
Oh yeah for sure! I saw 1500 guys are in there and that doesn’t include the top 16 teams left (well pippen from Michigan said he’s transferring lol).
It has taken away from everyone talking about and watching the sweet 16, to everyone wondering who is going to be on their team next year. Poorly done by the NCAA…again.
To be clear, Pippen has been injured and not playing. Writing was on the wall and probably got the okay from coaches to get a head start on finding a new school.
There's a good Painter interview out there on this subject, his point is essentially for the vast majority of coaches the earlier date is helpful.
In fairness though, what is two weeks? At least push it back to the Final 4 week.
@TwinDegrees2 … DO NOT listen/start at the 5:30 mark if you don’t want to hear the head coach of Purdue talk about Myles Colvin doing really good things for the team this weekend, as well as how he’s gotten better from Frosh to Soph year.
That's fair. The timeline is pretty tight but would it really make a huge difference to coaches if the portal opened this coming Monday?
