Jacobsen to announce friday

He will come to Purdue.

No insider information, but what is not to love about Purdue. He truly would be a Big Man On Campus.

is this the 7 foot kid with the 3 foot neck?

I'm with you. Let him go somewhere else and go find a 6'8 athletic scorer in the portal.
Haha yes the tall one who reclassed from 2025 to 2024 we would have even more of a logjam in the front court if he comes here. He would def have to redshirt and get stronger and even then it may be 1-2 years before he sees significant minutes with what we already have.

I am not sure how people have such a strong opinion with so little information. I remember the excitement level being quite low when Edey committed and I don’t recall it being particularly when Carsen Edwards and Jaden Ivey committed.
I don’t even remember us offering Edey. Recall Carsen and Jaden but next to no lead up to their commitment.

I did see Reibe schedule an official visit so perhaps we were leveraging Jacobsen to push Reibe?

Excitement level low due to having:

Furst, TKR, Berg, Burgess in front court where (potentially) we could also have Catchings and Heide play at the 4 at times as well. So, he would more than likely red shirt and not play until 2025.

He also re-classed from 2025 to 2024…haven’t seen too much success with kids that do that. Also, since we have so many in the front court, it’d be great to have another guard like…I don’t know…Gi’carri Harris.

He js 7’3 with a nice 3pt shot, but also weighs 215. If he does commit, then I hope he is able to produce for us, but judging right now, not sure he is going to help much in the immediate future, so that’s why not much excitement, at least from me.

kinda of reminds me of Kalkbrenner.

Who expressed "such a strong opinion"? One person said they kinda hope he chooses elsewhere and one other agreed.

When the coach has offered a player and is hoping for a commitment, it strikes me odd that multiple people on the thread hope that he chooses the other school, unless they know the player and have specific reasons to hope that he doesn’t commit.

I do get holding out hope that Harris commits instead.

They offered when he was 2025 and then he re classed to 2024…so that prob wasn’t in their plans

True, but the original offer was 2025. Painter did not have to honor it for 2024.

To me, 7’3” with a jump shot sounds appealing. The 215 doesn’t bother me. He’s obviously not an Isaac Haas type, but there is a place for long, tall skinny guys if they are skilled and relatively athletic.

What makes me nervous is that he’s not top of his class in 2025 and he is re-classifying to 2024. We haven’t seen this work out well for many kids (lander from IU obviously is the one that sticks out). It’ll workout for Flagg at Duke because, well, he is going to be the number 1 overall pick in the 2024 class..or it damn sure looks like he will be.

Anyways, I’m also not sure how Jacobsen would get playing time in the 2024 season and how well a big like him, who can shoot it, fits into painters system. Maybe he will change it up, but he really hasn’t had a 7 footer that consistently shot 3s.

Jacobsen may thrive at Wisconsin because he’s a better fit for them. But I’d rather go get another guard than a 7 footer who probably won’t play right away…

This is true. Some of the same people criticizing this recruitment criticized those players too, because they didn't have a bunch of stars next to their names. lol

Wasn’t around on this board then, but how do you see Jacobsen helping us out next year and the year after, as opposed to us getting a guard?

I remember watching tape on Carsen and Zavier Simpson and wanting Carsen a lot. Tough as nails with a fast release.

and dropped a 50-burger in his last regular season high school game @ Atoscocita, including 13-15 from deep - preview of coming attractions.

Ok back to the topic - curious teeet from TrillyDonovan. Original prediction of his was Wisconsin. Makes me think he had bad info or this is still fluid recruitment and we beat out Gard.

If he commits and comes here I’m fine, likely means Berg will leave, I highly doubt Purdue has 3 7 footers along with Furst and TKR on next years roster.

is there a limit on total number of players that a team can have? I am aware of the 13 scholarship limit but is there a limit on non scholarship players above the 13? Maybe one of the potential 6 total recruits has agreed to be a preferred walk on 🤷🏼‍♂️?

I’m sure you could do something like that but doubt it for kids ranked like these guys. Either someone else has got to go or someone in this class isn’t coming.

Redshirt doesn’t solve the number of available scholarships issue.
Well, I thought so too but saw an article on gold and black that said Purdue has the flexibility to oversign. Not sure how, as it doesn’t explain in the article, but that’s what makes me think we can have both Jacobsen and Harris. I would assume they know more about being able to oversign but 🤷‍♂️

Is there a player on this team that you could imagine Painter not offering a renewal of scholarship next year? Who would you speculate might not be following through on their commitment? 🙂

If a guy took a preferred walk on route, once signed, if they got a NIL agreement they could decide to use some money to help pay tuition lol 😂.

It was Dickinson as the number one recruit looked good for a while until Michigan came in and he wanted to go play for Howard to get him to the pros. Then it was Kalkbrenner and I’m a little forgetful right now but I think he may have went to Creighton and the third was Zach. I think with Carson it was Molock or something out of Ohio who had a leg injury, and then it was full go ahead with the Xavier Simpson and I think Purdue was also looking at either the two or three man that played with Xavier Simpson in AAU Simpson with a Michigan and I left Carson to come to Purdue. Jaden had some offers, but I don’t know that anybody was ever ahead of Purdue although there was speculation that Notre Dame should be the team to be
