Jacobsen to announce friday

I don’t see any evidence that a big decline in recruiting is around the corner. Even after the FDU loss, Painter just signed a great class.

The March success will come. Painter is too good a coach, just as Tony Bennett was too good a coach after the last time a #1 seed lost in the first round.
And the class just got better.

They do. Usc, UCLA. I mean they also have had great success. So it's hard to say which one it is. But the climate is a big factor to some recruits.
If the climate mattered, places like MSU, KU, Cuse, etc wouldn't be putting together the classes they do.
Does it come into consideration, maybe, a little, very little. The top recruits might be in school for 3 years. Most of that time is spent in the gym, weight room, bball facility and their apartment. They're not going for strolls along the beach.
What's much higher on the priority list is how the player fits into the system, how the coach is going to utilize, develop and feature him, especially if he's got NBA potential.

That's why I said "some" recruits.

Yep. I guarantee that if a star player from the south visits Purdue for a game and tours campus when it's -10 degrees outside, he will remember it and factor it into his decision.

What's that star player say if he makes it to the NBA and is drafted by Minnesota? Milwaukee? Chicago? Detroit?
Again, these guys are here for 2, maybe 3 years and the only time they're outside is going to or coming from class and the bbal facility.

They say SHOW ME THE MONEY. And they’ll be fine. This is something Purdue will not do and that’s why we don’t get a lot of them top recruits

In the NBA, players aren't walking across icy campuses between classes every day.

The question isn't whether a guy would be dissuaded by the weather, location or whatever, when you are talking about recruiting one has to think about what is so attractive about Purdue that makes it the top choice over every other school in the country?

Purdue is fortunate to be located in Indiana where college basketball is a big deal. This in and of itself gives us a good shot at some pretty decent talent. In the last couple of years Painter has taken advantage of some family connections to bring in top talent. Add to that the reputation as a team whose offense runs through the 5 and it's not surprising Purdue has ended up with the roster they have.

By the way if everyone stays, Purdue will have 6 four star recruits on the roster next year plus Heide and Burgess who were top 150. Add in Smith and I'm not sure we can point to recruiting as our issue like we have in the past.
