Does anyone believe that if IU wins the bucket game and goes to a bowl that Burke would then fire Coach H? Were it not for Hazell, Wilson would certainly be the worst coach in the Big Ten.

Are you crazy? If DH loses to IU so they go bowling it increases the Boiler's share of B1G bowl $$ by guaranteeing another participant. MB is not unhappy about anything that funds non-revenue sports more fully.

If IU destroys us in a near empty RA -- maybe.

Having lost faith in MB much earlier this year, it is clear that Burke and BOT do not give a daxx about what this football team do.
It is clear that the BOT are not concerned. Short of DH pistol whipping an 80+ year old grandmother on the BTN channel, he is coming back....

The only thing these guys respond to is money. That's why I think the balance might be tipped if we get blown out in an empty stadium, The prospect of really dismal attendance year could ignite change. I doubt that we'll average 30,000 if he comes back as it is.

This. Burke considers dollars to be votes for the status quo.

At this point, after Burke's vote of confidence on BTN last week, I'd say no.

It's hard to believe that getting blown out and losing to IU three years in a row isn't grounds for dismissal is beyond me.

Supposing Burke was being genuine in his recent comments, I think the answer is "no". Surely anyone in Burke's position would be approaching the question/decision of to-fire-or-not-to-fire from the presumption that Purdue would lose it's remaining games. At Iowa is as close to a gimme-loss as it gets, and - irrespective of him being the 2nd to worst coach - Wilson has his team playing vastly superior football compared to Hazell's squad. So it would seem almost unfathomable that Burke answered that question with any perspective other than Purdue going 0-fer to close the year.

I will say though, when an AD has to come out and deny rumors of firings when there are still 3 or 4 games left on the year, things have gotten pretty bad. Part of me feels like Burke has really been put into a corner by allowing DH to retain Shoop after last year. Now it almost seems like firing Shoop isn't enough to quiet the masses and provide the desperately-need bump to enthusiasm from the fans.

That's pretty damn funny.

That'll probably offend some folks on here, but not me.

Well if all this "film watching" isn't making any progress then it's at least mental masturbation if not actual. I can't for the life of me figure out if the guy is a crass A-hole who gets off lying to everyone to see how long it will be till he is called out or he is that clueless.

You have to know the IU fans will be in RA by the thousands…. It might be funny if it were so sad that the cream and crimson will outnumber the boiler fans… MB and DH if this happens it is ALL on you it.

Indiana doesn't travel well, if at all. Having said that when there are 23000 in the stands and 12000 of them are LOCAL IU fans... It'll look pretty sick.

Do you realize nearly every school that fires their coach puts out a statement at some point "affirming" their coach prior to firing them?

At Miami, the AD flat out said they would review Al Golden at the end of the season because they didn't think it was fair to do it in the middle of the season - and then days later fired him.

Am I saying Hazell is not coming back? No. But to act like because that was said 2 weeks ago means you can take it to the bank for the rest of the season is not really accurate.
