IU coach Tom Allen fires OC (link)

Not sure JT Barrett is a good enough passer to make things really work next season...

I don't get why people think Wilson threw the ball all over the field. 2015 IU had 592 rush attempts to 456 pass attempts. Put sudfeld, Howard and springs in the NFL. This year IU had 534 rush attempts to 456 pass attempts. I just think it is a misconception that Wilson ran some throw it every down offense.

Running from the spread and running from a power set (which is what Allen said) are two totally different concepts. Imagine having IU's personnel with their offensive concepts and switching to what MSU or Whisky runs? That's what this coach I spoke to believes Allen may try to do.

It would almost be like taking a spread option team and switching them to a wing-t options (think Army and Navy). Obviously similar concepts but two totally different schemes.

Allen has said publicly he plans to continue to run a tempo spread.

Yea not at all what Allen said. Debord ran spread at tennessee and Allen has said on multiple occasions he wants to run spread tempo. He just wants to run the ball more effective then he thought they did this year.

Maybe I'm mistaken but didn't you have the same coaches/offense this season as when Coleman and Howard were running all over the place?

We did but there were some big differences. First was Sudfeld was QB and defenses weren't stacking the box daring him to throw like they did a lot this year with Lagow. Second, they had a lot of injuries on the OL this year. Feeney missed several games, Camiel was out basically the whole year. Coy Cronk played well but a freshman on the OL playing in the B1G East is going to have his moments of struggle. Third, they seemed to be pretty predictable in their play calling this year.

That's what I was getting at. I thought their struggles running the ball this year were more related to the personnel than the coaching/scheme. My take on the changes are that Allen just wanted coaches he was more familiar with and trusted rather than shaking it up trying to jump start a running game that had a down year after a few very good seasons.

I've been surprised that Frey hasn't moved on by now. Seems like he has really done some good things with the line and player development. Has he had offers?
Frey married a Bloomington gal whose whole family lives in and around there. He's had multiple offers to move and he hasn't yet. I'm thinking he won't unless forced too do so.

Or the fact that Harbaugh is paying his assistants 1 million a year.
He's paying three assistants $1M a year, and two of those are the OC and the DC. It's very wrong to think all of them are getting that. I highly doubt Frey is going to make that.

Even a total IU homer like you has to admit that this is not a good thing for IU football in any way, shape, or form. Under Wilson, one of IU's strengths was its offensive line, coached by Frey, and now he's blown off Bloomington, a place you said he'd likely never leave again.

IU has had 6 all-American offensive linemen in their history and Frey recruited/coached/developed 2 of the 6! That's a HUGE loss for them.

I'm sorry. Frey is only going to get paid 700,000 a year. That's a raise frome 376,000 a year. But please keep telling everyone that he left over doom and gloom. So many idiots on this board. I'm done. See you guys next fall. Can't wait to watch UofL hang 50 on you.

For real this time? I thought you were done here about 3 weeks ago.

Just like I thought, you're a little bitch, and unfortunately, not too bright.

Soooooo.....Frey goes to Meatchicken and Wilson goes to OSU. Both to better programs, both for more money. And both will know IU's defensive schemes and will show the rest of the league how to score against it.

No chance Wilson is making more as the OC at tOSU than the HC at IU

Ed Warinner made a base pay of $654,500 last season at OSU's OC. My guess is that with Michigan paying up for their staff to retain them, OSU may have felt the need to up their pay as well to stay competitive and draw one of the best offensive minds in college football. There has been no release of his contract but I am going to guess he may be upwards of $750k. Wilson made $2.32 million in his last season overall but his base pay was around $550k.

You can make the argument that he is in fact making more money as the OC if you strictly look at base pay at IU but we all know he made over $2 million per year.

Still, if OSU pays him 750k (like I expect)...Wilson would be 4th highest paid assistant coach in conference behind the three $1 million dollar coaches at Michigan.
